Chapter 1220: Emergency Session of the International Confederation of Wizardry Ⅳ
With the rush of whispers settling down, Minister Jenkins gestures to those standing at her side. "The creation of artifacts would have been impossible to create without the alliance of the goblins, hags, and trolls, who offered brilliant insights and applications to magic which had previously been unconsidered by the Ministry of Magic."
There are various expressions of blatant skepticism among more than a dozen members of the delegation. Interestingly enough, Boris Nikolaev appeared to not be surprised at all. Then again, he hunted trolls for sport and knew just how treacherously cunning a troll could be. He had plenty of near-fatal scars to prove it.
"With the aid of the alliance especially of the goblins, who have contributed no small part of the funding in the creation of the com-pew-ter," Minister Jenkins carefully pronounced the unfamiliar word she had practiced pronouncing multiple times to say correctly.
"The applications of the com-pew-ter are infinite," Minister Jenkins gestured to Ragnok, who grabbed the crystal mouse and used it to click on an item on the screen to open a writing application. "A preliminary messaging system is available on the com-pew-ter creating instant communication from one com-pew-ter to another. Furthermore, documents may be typed there on, stored, and even printed through a connection to a printer. The applications itself are endless."
Cedella Reid's face fills up with light at the announcement. Many of the wizards, unless muggleborn or half-bloods understood the implication of the announcement. However, there were a few exceptions such as a large middle-aged Slavic wizard.
The Slavic wizard in question was dressed in the old tradition of his motherland with a round linen kaurtz cap in white, blue, and red with a white ribbon tied with a blue flower as an accessory. He wears the traditional cotton blue kosovorokta with nearly black pants (porty), and a blue sash tied around his waist, (a long belt called a kushak). Peeking out from the edge of his color is a white tunic, a collar set slightly off to the side. The sleeves and hems of the tunic are embroidered in light blue trim that is set with a pair of knee-high boots made from the skins of trolls that he had personally hunted.
The wizard, Boris Nikolaev had personally witnessed the atrocities the muggles had committed against each other during the second great muggle war. He had seen the terrible power and might of their muggle weapons. Moreover, he had seen how his people suffered as a result of the war and the ensuing regime of the muggle governments with the ending of the war.
Unlike many of his compatriots who remained set in the old ways, Boris Nikolaev knew the muggle world was rapidly changing and evolving and that it would not wait for wizardkind to change. He greatly feared the day when muggles would learn of their existence. He could not say with absolute certainty that wizardkind's magic would be sufficient to defeat their foes. Rather, he feared that they too would be destroyed systematically and butchered like cattle as the people of Judah had been in those awful, and most terrible killing fields.
"However, the most important feature," Minister Jenkins gestured to the com-pew-ter, "is its capacity to store and format information. Hundreds and countless files have already been uploaded and can easily be searched and located by merely typing in a name, date, or other relative title by which to find said information!"
Even the older wizards and witches of the delegation sit up at the announcement. Even with magic, paperwork always took an awful amount of time to find and organize. If documents could be easily found and stored, they would be revolutionary and applicable in every form and manner in the wizarding world from the Ministry of Magic to businesses and much more!
"As of right now, the Department of Magical Enforcement is completing a preliminary database which will house the profiles of every wizard or witch that has been found guilty of committing a crime and by doing so be able to effectively manage oncoming cases and stop criminals in their tracks!" Minister Jenkins steadily said earning no small amount of awe and interest from the delegation.
"Thus, resulting in the proposed idea that once the wizlink is established in every nation of the delegation along with corresponding artifacts, I would suggest the creation of ICC, the International Criminal Catalog, and the INTERAURORS, an International Criminal Auror Society, whose primary taskforce is to apprehend criminals who flee to other nations or commit crimes in other nations other than their own."
"Here, here!" Loudly applauded, the elderly Harfang with great approval. His piercing gray eyes gaze firmly into the crows. "If we had such a form of communication back in the day, then Grindelwald and his Acolotyes would never have gotten where they did. I for one heartily say, AYE, and I would hope that the rest of you would agree as well without any further ado!"
"Here, here," murmured more than dozens of members of the delegation including Mr. Krum. He might not have become an orphan if his father had been acutely aware of the danger that Grindelwald posed. Yet information had been scant at that time, and his father had been wholly underprepared, vastly estimating the danger Grindelwald posed.
Seeing the all-round approval on the faces of the assembly, Idris Shafiq says, "It would appear there is no objection to the proposal made by Delegate Harfang. Yet for the record are there any objections to the proposal of Delegate Harfang to implement the creation of the ICC, an International Criminal Catalog, and the INTERAURORS, an International Criminal Auror Society, whose primary function is to apprehend criminals who flee to other nations or commit crimes in other wizarding nations other than their own. The implementation would immediately occur after the corresponding wizlink and ensuing artifacts are available and implemented throughout the wizarding nations of the world."
There is no hesitation or reluctance on the faces of the delegation. Although, there were some reservations by a few primarily those like Cedellia Reid, who understood how such information could be wielded as a weapon. The protection of privacy and information would be another matter that would have to be addressed in the future. Still, the proposed implementation would only help their nations and stop criminal organizations in their tracks. Moreover, especially those who are trafficked in dark objects and illegal magical creatures.
Seeing not a single hand rise in the air, Idris Shafiq says, "It is duly recorded that no objections have been made. The Confederation unanimously voted in favor of the proposal. The motion passes," he firmly declared, before nodding in the direction of Delegate Harfang, who showed a rather pleased expression on his face as he is quietly congratulated by the other members of the European delegation.
Idris Shafiq loudly clears his throat, before gesturing at Minister Jenkins to resume speaking.
"With the creation of the artifacts and wizlink, Gringotts Bank has successfully expanded into the muggle realm and created Gringotts Inc. resulting in the creation of the Kredit Card," Minister Jenkins proudly announced and pulled out a thin black card with a name and numbers inscribed thereon.
"With the permission of Ragnok, who is representing Gringotts today, I am pleased to announce that wizardkind will no longer struggle to buy or trade in the muggle realm," Minister Jenkins said. "The Kredit Card will be tied directly to an associated account at Gringotts Incorporated which is in turn tied directly to a Gringotts vault. Any transaction can and will be verified. Furthermore, for security purposes, each card will be magically linked to an individual. No other wizard or witch can use the card otherwise, the transaction will fail to be completed."
There were whispers of excitement among the delegation as it was incredibly difficult to purchase items in the muggle world. Moreover, various games, books, and other items of muggle origin were becoming popular in the wizarding world. It was rather troublesome to make any purchases as they did not understand the paper money of the muggles. This would be a convenience that many a wizard and witch would use with ease, especially with the above-mentioned security feature.
Most of the delegates did not understand the implications of that sentence. However, Cedella Reid did. If Gringotts Banks established a legitimate entity in the muggle world, then they would also have the ability to move legally in the muggle world not just in finance but even in politics. Gringotts would effectively have more influence and power in the muggle realm than the Ministry of Magic ever had. It would become the means to even the scales if the Ministry of Magic ever needed to bypass the British Prime Minister and find an alternative route to reach their objective.
"This feature will be available to all through Gringotts within a week. The official announcement will be made after the end of the gathering of the confederation," Minister Jenkins said allowing the positive news to wash over the delegation. She needed the delegation to be at their highest point and friendliest point. This was it.
