Chapter 13
Fortunately, the production team had already discussed with the streaming company in advance, and staff were on standby to quickly fix any issues.
Soon, the streaming, which had been lagging severely, returned to smooth operation.
[“Wow, it was so laggy. Did the stream crash?”]
[“Husband, husband, husband, I love you so much!”]
[“When will my hubby join the crew?”]
[“When will Chi Jing leave the entertainment industry?”]
[“No way, he looks so good. Why leave the entertainment industry? There are so many rotten people here, one more doesn’t matter. But there are also many ugly people in the industry, we can’t lose him. I don’t even spend money on him, but I want him to be eye candy.”]
[“Seriously, those who say Chi Jing is a bad person, I’ve only heard rumors so far. Is there any evidence? Don’t just come to the comments and say some so-called classmate testified against him.”]
[“Indeed, just words saying ‘I’m ***’s classmate and he did *** in school’ aren’t proof. For other stars, such claims would be sued for defamation. Bring real evidence, and I’ll help you fight. If not, forget it. Fans of Lou Yiwen and Ou’er Bai are still fighting each other, blaming each other for faking scores or resources.”]
[“So funny, though, these two always argue. Fans are always fighting, even accusing each other of fake scores. It’s like they’re flirting.”]
Lou Yiwen and Ou’er Bai, both wearing contact lenses to correct their vision, read these comments mentioning them.
They glanced at each other with perfect synchronization, then huffed simultaneously and turned away in disgust.
Who’s flirting with whom!!!
Director Lu Tao coughed a few times behind the camera, breaking the silence.
“Good evening, everyone.”
Shen Yixing was the first to respond, “Good evening, Director!”
An Boqing nodded along, suddenly remembering the CP fans he and Shen Yixing had.
He was sitting on a small stool, closest to the live stream screen.
Sure enough, the next second, the scrolling comments made his scalp tingle.
[“Yixing greeted, and An immediately nodded. These two husbands are too in sync.”]
[“This variety show isn’t a travel show for me, it’s a couple show (a little girl obsessed with CP shows up).”]
[“For me too, orz. I not only ship Xingche Safety, but also Yiwenerbai. I even think Jiang Yucheng and that handsome guy just now… um, they have shipping potential too.”]
An Boqing’s face turned slightly pale, feeling bitter but unable to express it. But when the comments mentioned Yiwenerbai, he sneakily turned around to look at Lou Yiwen and Ou’er Bai.
The sofa wasn’t big, and three people had to sit on it, so the two were very close, their arms almost touching.
But despite the close distance, they tried to keep as far away from each other as possible.
A strange and somewhat funny atmosphere.
Lu Tao continued speaking into the small megaphone, “Considering the recent bad reputation our show has had, we’re doing this live stream to let the guests answer some questions.”
“You can also post your questions in the comments, and staff will select a few for the guests to answer.”
The comments, already crowded, became even denser.
Chi Jing watched for a while, found it uninteresting, and tossed his phone aside.
Taking advantage of the break while staff collected questions, Jiang Yucheng turned off his microphone.
“Little Chi,” he called out with a smile.
Chi Jing, still troubled by the horns, looked a bit down.
“What is it?” He didn’t even bother to turn his head to look at him.
Jiang Yucheng reached out and turned off his microphone too, amidst the audience’s excited screams.
“Your hair is messy,” he reminded him.
Chi Jing had put on the hat casually, intentionally messing up his hair before wearing it. As a result, many strands were sticking out at odd angles.
He raised his hand and haphazardly fixed some of the strands.
“Done.”
“Not yet.”
Chi Jing: “…”
Already annoyed by the horns, he glared at Jiang Yucheng with his beautiful dark eyes, full of displeasure.
Jiang Yucheng: “You can’t see it. Let me fix it for you?”
He quickly grabbed his hat, “No need, thank you.”
[“What did they say? Is there something we fans can’t hear?”]
[“OMG, someone turned off the microphone in the director’s presence! And shut off their teammate’s too!”]
[“Honestly, with how Jiang Yucheng treats Chi Jing, I’m starting to doubt if Chi Jing is as bad as those marketing accounts say.”]
[“Ahhh, hubby don’t get so close to him.”]
[“Why cover your head suddenly?”]
[“Hiss, these two are more shippable than An Boqing and Shen Yixing…”]
[“It’s obvious Jiang Yucheng is just reminding Chi Jing about his messy hair. Can you stop overthinking? It’s really gross seeing some obsessed CP fans.”]
[“Mind your own business. You girlfriend fans are hilarious. Jiang Yucheng doesn’t rely on fans. You can’t afford his high-end endorsements anyway. Don’t act superior just because you spend money, there’s nothing to despise CP fans for.”]
[“Stop arguing, I just want to ask if Chi Jing’s blackmail is real.”]
The comments were noisy, and despite Chi Jing warning Jiang Yucheng not to touch his hat again, the director soon returned with the questions. The first one was for him.
He adjusted his hat.
Lu Tao: “When you were trending before, someone claiming to be your classmate said you stole things as a child. Is it true?”
Lu Tao was bold; usually, such questions are avoided, but he dared to ask him directly for the sake of views.
He glanced at the live stream data on his phone, noting the viewer count had reached a new high.
He squinted slightly, a smile playing on his lips, “Oh…”
Lu Tao: “Hmm?”
Chi Jing: “Could the director please provide me with that classmate’s Weibo account? Since they’re my classmate, they should know the teacher’s resolution.”
He smiled, “Falsely accusing a classmate of theft resulted in a disciplinary record and a school-wide announcement. That’s what I remember. Did they only watch the first half of the show?”
[“Whoa???”]
[“I actually got some gossip!”]
[“So it’s false. I said those ‘I’m a classmate’ comments can’t be trusted, ten out of ten are fake!”]
[“Not just because he said it, do you believe it?”]
[“Wen Yubai’s parents never spoke ill of him publicly, why do his fans think their idol was wronged?”]
[“Because Chi Jing’s foster parents publicly said he wasn’t good. I remember their expressions were particularly sorrowful.”]
[“But I only believe my own eyes. The live stream shows he seems nice. Maybe not the soft type like Wen Yubai, but definitely not a bad person.”]
[“I actually think Wen Yubai’s parents don’t seem easy to get along with. I suggest fans pay more attention.”]
[“Not all parents love their children. They keep saying Chi Jing is bad, but I’ve never heard Zhentian and his wife treat him well.”]
[“Eye-opener, really. I’m in the same university as him. It’s true his foster parents didn’t treat him well. He did a lot of part-time jobs in college, probably saved a lot of money. This doesn’t look like a loving parent-child relationship.”]
[“More gossip? I’m all ears! Bring it on!”]
[“Comments are not reliable! Sisters, go to Weibo and leave a keyword!”]
[“…This world is indeed a giant gossip scene (going to Weibo, I want to see too!).”]
Lu Tao didn’t expect Chi Jing to handle it so easily.
He was satisfied, seeing the backend streaming data, thinking he was indeed the right guest to invite.
“The next question is for Jiang Yucheng. A viewer asks if you’ll join a new project after this show?”
Jiang Yucheng raised his eyelids, his dark eyes scanning Lu Tao.
Lu Tao cautiously asked, “Can you answer this question?”
Jiang Yucheng: “Yes, I’ll join Director Xu’s new project, a martial arts drama.”
[“Good, good! Another good drama next year!”]
[“Great! Xu’s martial arts dramas are quality guaranteed! With Jiang Yucheng starring, I can’t wait!”]
Lu Tao asked some lighter questions next, like the lipstick shades the actresses wore or whether Shen Yixing considered making movies.
Gan Heyu also got a few questions. Though his guiding nature made him unpopular in the variety show, his acting skills were never questioned, and people still loved watching his dramas.
“The last question,” Lu Tao seemed hesitant, “Will Chi Jing work with Wen Yubai in the future?”
Chi Jing thought for a moment, “I don’t mind, but I’m not sure about Wen Yubai’s thoughts.”
With that, the half-hour live stream ended.
He was anxious to check the bathroom mirror for his little horns but was stopped by Jiang Yucheng.
“Don’t rush.”
He looked back, seeing everyone still seated, except for Shen Yixing holding his phone.
Shen Yixing: “Let’s wait a bit. I need to discuss our itinerary for the afternoon and tomorrow.”
“Nothing much this afternoon, just find somewhere to eat. Tomorrow morning, we’ll visit a must-see attraction, and in the afternoon, complete a task from the production team.” he read from his phone memo.
“I think we’re all tired from the long flight. Let’s nap now and head out at 4 PM. We’ll eat and wander around, and come back to rest around 9 PM.”
Everyone agreed, even the picky Gan Heyu praised his thorough planning.
“I’ve picked a few restaurants. I’ll post them in the group, and you can choose where to eat.”
Once he finished, Jiang Yucheng finally let go of Chi Jing’s wrist.
Chi Jing hurried to the first-floor bathroom, removing his hat.
The small black horns were still there, nestled in his thick hair, their tips rounded and tender, still in their initial state.
Chi Jing: …
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, but his phone buzzed in his pocket.
He opened it to find messages from Mu Jingshan.
[Mu Jingshan: I contacted your former teacher. She sent me the disciplinary record with the school’s seal. It should clear things up.]
[Mu Jingshan: Also, Director Xu visited today. He wants you to play a role in his new film.]
