Chapter 26: Acorn Tree

“Here you go, Snow and Luke! It’s a Korok Leaf-wrapped pie!”

“It smells great!”

“Looks delicious!”

Following Himeli’s advice, I decided to have Snow and Luke try the first Korok Leaf-wrapped pie I made. Both of them were wagging their tails, clearly delighted.

First, Snow took a bite, his eyes widening.

“Wow, it’s so delicious…!”

“Yum, it’s good! I want more!!”

“Luke, savor it a bit more…”

While Snow was taking small bites, Luke devoured his in one go. He said it looked too delicious, so he couldn’t wait to eat it.

(But I’m glad they’re enjoying it so much.)

“Haruru, you should try it too! It’s super delicious, as good as Hatch’s honey!”

“Thank you! Wow, it’s delicious! I’ve never had such tasty acorns before!”

Haruru, who got a piece of the Korok Leaf-wrapped pie, was overjoyed and looked at Taichi with sparkling eyes, exclaiming, “Incredible!”

“I’m glad you like it. Now, it’s time for us to cook our own meals!”

Fortunately, I had plenty of ingredients, and I made ten Korok Leaf-wrapped pies.

“Yay, let’s dig in!”

“I’ll have mine too!”

Himeli and Taichi also took bites of their pies, savoring the flavors. The crispy pie crust was filled with acorns and fish, tasting like the blessings of the forest. It felt like I could eat as many as I wanted.

“Yum, this is great!”

Luke quickly went for seconds, eating with gusto. Haruru sat next to Snow, munching diligently with her small mouth, looking incredibly cute.

“I’m so amazed! I can’t believe acorns can be made into such delicious dishes!”

The general was chomping away at his pie at high speed, quickly filling his belly with the Korok Leaf-wrapped pies.

(Next time, I’ll try making snacks with acorns too. I might be able to create some tasty sweets.)

Taichi and the others enjoyed the Korok Leaf-wrapped pies and finished their break.

“Now, I’d like to take this tree down the mountain, but…”

What should I do? Just then, Luke stepped forward.

“I guess I’ll carry it.”

“Oh wow, Luke!! Thank you, that helps a lot…!!”

Luke easily picked up the acorn tree in his mouth, showing off his strength as a Fenrir.

(I’m glad to have Luke around…)

“Alright then, let’s head down the mountain!”

“Yay!”

“Yes!”

“Kyu!”

Since we were going down, it felt much easier. Taichi’s tired legs felt relatively light now. We quickly returned to the place where the carriage was parked.

“Now, let’s load the acorn tree onto the wagon… and then it’s just a matter of heading home. Snow, how are you feeling?”

Since the city was quite a distance away, it might be a good idea to rest a bit first. Taichi thought this, but Snow cheerfully replied, “I’m fine!”

“This is nothing! We had such delicious food, and I can run a lot!”

“That’s reassuring.”

Since it would get dark if we delayed, we decided to set off right away.

However, this was where we had to say goodbye to the general.

Taichi took out some rabbit cookies from his bag and handed them to the general.

“I wish I could give you something better, but this is all I have.”

“This is delicious! I love it! Thank you!!”

The general’s face lit up, and he looked at Taichi. Then he took an acorn out of his belly pocket and presented it as a gift.

“Oh, thank you!”

“I hope you come to visit again!”

“Of course. I’ll come back, so please take care of me then.”

“Kyu!”

Taichi exchanged a warm handshake with the general and left Korok Mountain.

As the sun began to set, Taichi and the others returned to the Fluffy Cafe.

“Welcome back!”

The Cerberus noticed Taichi’s return and jumped at him first. Apparently, they had been playing with the horses in the backyard.

The horses also greeted Taichi, saying, “Welcome back!”

“I’m back, everyone! We safely obtained the acorn tree!”

“Wow, it’s big!”

“Looks pretty good!”

“Let’s plant it right away!”

Seeing the acorn tree loaded onto the wagon, Cerberus got excited, sniffing it and playing with the leaves.

“Taichi, I’ll return the wagon first.”

“Oh, right… We should split up to get this done before night falls. I’m really sorry, but can I ask you to handle that?”

“Of course! I’ll be right back after I return it.”

“Thanks!”

After seeing Himeli off, Taichi began to think about where to plant the acorn tree.

However, before he could decide, Cerberus started digging into the ground.

“How about here?”

“I think digging this much will be enough!”

“It seems pretty good!”

In no time at all, a hole for planting the acorn tree was completed.

“Impressive…”

“Amazing!”

Snow and Haruru were in awe of Cerberus’s efficiency.

Cerberus dug the hole right next to where they were building the new Fluffy Cafe, probably in the middle of the spot where they were thinking of creating a terrace.

Taichi thought the location might not be ideal, but it seemed perfect as a symbol for the terrace.

“Luke, can we plant the acorn tree here?”

“That much is nothing for me!”

Luke said with a confident grin and planted the acorn tree into the hole. He simply dropped it in with his mouth, showing off his dexterity.

Right away, Cerberus covered it with soil, and the acorn tree was planted at the Fluffy Cafe.

“Wow, wow! This is amazing!”

Haruru climbed up the acorn tree and plucked some of the acorns hanging from it, putting them into her belly pocket as she came down.

Then she bowed her head politely.

“Thank you for the wonderful acorn tree!”

“You’re welcome!”

With the addition of the acorn tree, Taichi thought the new Fluffy Cafe would surely become a lively place.
