Apocalypse: Modifying Everything, Building an Iron Fortress

Chapter 26 - Supplies Always Come First! Take More of the Ultra-Thin Umbrellas!

Chapter 26: Supplies Always Come First! Take More of the Ultra-Thin Umbrellas!

“You go to the snack section, and I’ll head to the food section. Remember what I said earlier, focus on high-calorie, compact foods like chocolate and bread.”

After Jarvis confirmed through the cameras that the second floor was clear, the two of them moved to the second floor.

“Got it!”

Liu Yuqing nodded but confirmed to avoid any mistakes, “And then we’ll move all the food to the window by the restroom, right?”

“Exactly,” Jiang Cheng affirmed.

Although the armored vehicle was parked right outside the main entrance on the first floor, moving supplies to the vehicle would require going downstairs and opening the supermarket’s doors, which would create too much noise and potentially attract zombies.

It was unsafe and unnecessary.

He planned to use the restroom window they had entered through the previous day. Then, Jarvis could drive the armored vehicle over, and they could toss the supplies down. This method was much more convenient.

Even if any noise attracted zombies, they would only gather around the armored vehicle and wouldn’t be able to climb to the second floor.

With that, the two of them each headed to their respective areas.

Arriving in the food section, Jiang Cheng went straight to the rice and flour aisle and lifted three 50-kilogram bags of rice.

Although rice needed to be cooked, it could last a long time and didn’t take up too much space.

“With four times the strength of an average, lifting 300 pounds is effortless.”

He slowly placed the three bags of rice on the ground and exhaled softly.

Then, he found three large burlap sacks and headed to the noodle section. Without bothering to be picky, he began filling the sacks with instant noodles until all three 50-kilogram-capacity sacks were nearly full.

For his third trip to the food section, Jiang Cheng went straight to the preserved vegetable section, filling a large burlap sack with sealed packages of pickled vegetables.

Aside from that, water was the most important item. After moving the pickled vegetables to the restroom window, Jiang Cheng headed to the drinking water section.

“Logically, the supermarket should have flatbed carts for employees to move goods.”

With that in mind, Jiang Cheng searched the second floor and quickly found one in a corner.

Using the cart, he could transport eight large jugs of purified water in one trip.

However, he didn’t transport too much, just six jugs, leaving the remaining space for bottled water.

In total, he moved ten large jugs of purified water, ten boxes of 4.5-liter bottled water (four bottles per box), and ten boxes of 350-milliliter bottled water (24 bottles per box).

“This should be enough for now.”

Looking at the small mountain of bottled water, Jiang Cheng nodded in satisfaction.

At that moment, Liu Yuqing, who had also found a shopping cart and was transporting high-calorie snacks, walked over. Seeing the mountain of bottled water, she exclaimed, “That’s a lot!”

“This isn’t much. If we had more space in the vehicle, I’d want to bring more. After all, water is needed for everything.”

In the current apocalypse, those scenes from movies and TV shows where the characters don’t worry about basic supplies and just rush around are unrealistic. No matter how much his body was enhanced, Jiang Cheng was still human and needed to eat three meals a day.

No matter where you are, supplies always come first!

Moreover, with an armored vehicle like his, as long as he had enough supplies, it would be like having a mobile fortress, allowing him to be completely self-sufficient without relying on anyone.

“Come, take a break. How’s your gathering going?”

Liu Yuqing sat down beside him and began counting on her fingers, “I gathered two large bags of chocolate and other high-calorie candies, about 50 kilograms in total. Then I collected about 50 kilograms of instant noodles and some self-heating food …”

Jiang Cheng quietly smoked his cigarette as he listened. When Liu Yuqing finished, he nodded in approval. “When we’re about to leave, let’s grab a small refrigerator, pick up some meat and vegetables from the market on the fourth floor, and we should be all set. You take a break; I’ll go check the first floor.”

“The first floor … do we need anything else?”

Liu Yuqing was puzzled, thinking they had already gathered enough food and water.

“I’ll see if there’s anything else we might need. I’m not sure what’s down there; you can just keep an eye on the second floor for anything else we might need.”

“Okay!” Liu Yuqing agreed.

First Floor!

The first floor was as quiet as ever, with the bodies of the zombies they had killed the previous day still lying in the main hall.

Outside the supermarket entrance, a few zombies were still wandering around. However, since it was daytime, the number of zombies had decreased significantly, leaving only twenty or thirty, though they were still close to the supermarket.

Jiang Cheng stepped lightly, trying to minimize noise and avoid disturbing the zombies.

Like the upper floors, the first floor was divided into several sections: a jewelry section, a daily necessities section, a brand-name clothing section, and a children’s play area.

In addition, there were a few corners with milk tea shops and KFC outlets.

But Jiang Cheng wasn’t interested in those. His primary target was the daily necessities section.

“Tissues, pots, pans, and … huh?”

As he approached the daily necessities section, pushing a shopping cart, his gaze fell on a small shelf that caught his attention.

On it were small, neatly arranged boxes labeled “0.01 ultra-thin” and similar.

“These will definitely come in handy sooner or later, better take some!”

With Liu Yuqing, a campus beauty, by his side, these would surely be useful in the future.

With that, Jiang Cheng grabbed a few boxes and tossed them into his cart, ready to move on. But after a few steps, he turned back, rubbing his chin, “I’m not sure if this will be enough. These don’t take up much space; might as well take more!”

He immediately grabbed every single box of ultra-thin condoms from the small shelf, stuffing them all into the cart before feeling satisfied.

After grabbing the condoms, he spotted another item.

“Liu Yuqing might need this!”

Even in the apocalypse, women still have those few days every month, and it would be troublesome if she couldn’t find these when needed.

So, he grabbed a few packs of sanitary pads and put them in the cart before leaving the area.

After making a few more rounds in the daily necessities section, picking up some other items, he confirmed that he hadn’t missed anything and then pushed the cart toward the stairwell.

Carrying the cart to the second floor was a breeze for Jiang Cheng, not requiring much effort.

Pushing the cart back to the restroom window where their supplies were piled, Jiang Cheng found Liu Yuqing had just arrived with a cart full of snacks, several large bags of frozen dumplings, and over a dozen cartons of eggs.

“This is something you might need!” Jiang Cheng said, holding up the sanitary pads from his cart.

“Th-thank you!”

Seeing the sanitary pads in Jiang Cheng’s hand, Liu Yuqing’s delicate face instantly flushed red. Although Jiang Cheng was right—she did need these—it was still an embarrassing item, and she couldn’t help but blush as he held them out.

However, Jiang Cheng’s thoughtfulness also made her feel a bit touched.
