Chapter 40
Chapter 40: Tonight, You’ll Experience My Power!
Even the two veteran police officers, despite having faced many dangerous situations in their careers, broke out in a cold sweat upon witnessing the scene. They immediately reached for the rifles in their weapon bags, ready to fight to the death.
However, just as they unzipped the bags and before they could draw their weapons, everything went dark before their eyes as a tentacle swept them off their feet, flinging them onto the road with such force that they were left dizzy and disoriented.
Immediately after …
Splurt! Splurt!
Two simultaneous sounds echoed as a gush of blood spurted out. The two officers were impaled by the tentacles.
From start to finish, though it might seem like a lot happened, it all took place in less than ten seconds.
……
Meanwhile, after driving three to four kilometers, Zhao Zhirou and Sun Hai finally managed to shake off the zombies. They promptly turned the vehicle around, ready to head back.
“Uncle Chen, we’ve completed the mission and are heading to the rendezvous point. What’s your status?” Zhao Zhirou spoke into the radio connected to her earpiece.
However, after waiting for a long time, there was no response. Zhao Zhirou’s heart sank, and she called out again, “Uncle Chen, Uncle Chen, this is Zhao Zhirou, please respond. Please respond …”
But no matter how many times she called, there was only silence on the other end.
This made Zhao Zhirou’s heart sink even further. “Sun Hai, speed up! Something might have happened to Uncle Chen and the others!”
Sun Hai, who had been keeping an eye on her situation, did not accelerate. Instead, he sharply turned the steering wheel, making a U-turn and accelerating in the opposite direction of the police station.
“Sun Hai … what are you doing?” Zhao Zhirou asked, bewildered.
“There’s been no response for so long, and there’s no sign of them. It’s clear they’re dead! It’s better for us to run while we can!” Sun Hai snorted and quickly explained.
“You …”
Just as Zhao Zhirou was about to retort, Sun Hai cut her off. “I’ve always liked you. You know that, right? Now it’s just the two of us. I think this is fate! And I believe that with our skills, without those useless rich kids and those meddling old men, we’ll be able to survive easily!”
Seeing the look of shock and disbelief in Zhao Zhirou’s eyes as if she was seeing him for the first time, Sun Hai’s desire was no longer concealed.
“Don’t look at me like that. I’ve always been like this; you just never noticed.”
Hearing his words, Zhao Zhirou suddenly realized what was happening. She immediately reached for the car door, ready to jump out.
However, just as she was about to move, she felt the cold barrel of a gun pressed against the back of her head, followed by Sun Hai’s voice.
“Don’t move!”
Zhao Zhirou froze, not daring to act rashly.
Sun Hai sneered, “You ungrateful woman. I knew you’d try to jump out. You’ve never looked at me properly, but that’s fine. Tonight, you’ll experience my power!”
As he spoke, he turned the steering wheel sharply, heading towards the direction of the villa they had come from.
But just as they entered the side road, a black, tank-like armored vehicle suddenly appeared in front of them, blocking their path.
Sun Hai was startled and quickly slammed on the brakes.
“How could there be an armored vehicle here?”
Before he could think further, the car shook violently as a shadow suddenly appeared on the hood.
Instinctively, he looked up and saw a young man aiming a rifle-like gun at him.
Sun Hai’s pupils contracted instantly. He quickly withdrew the gun he had been pointing at Zhao Zhirou and aimed it at the young man, intending to shoot.
Bang!
However, Jiang Cheng wasn’t going to give him the chance. The moment Sun Hai moved, Jiang Cheng pulled the trigger, and the powerful shot fired a steel nail straight through the windshield, hitting Sun Hai’s hand.
“Damn it …”
Sun Hai was both shocked and enraged. Just as he was about to speak, another gunshot rang out. Jiang Cheng had pulled the trigger again, and a steel nail pierced through Sun Hai’s forehead.
He was dead!
The whole confrontation lasted no more than two seconds. Only after Sun Hai’s death did Zhao Zhirou react. She quickly picked up the handgun that had fallen from Sun Hai’s hand and then looked up at the young man on the hood.
She was wary, unsure if the stranger was friend or foe.
“Thank you for saving me.”
Regardless, the man had just saved her life.
Jiang Cheng smiled and jumped off the car. “If you want to thank me, do it after you get in the car. The zombies will be here soon.”
At his words, Zhao Zhirou glanced around and noticed that quite a few zombies were already heading their way, drawn by the noise. Their grotesque faces and low growls were terrifying.
Without wasting any more time, Zhao Zhirou quickly opened the door and ran towards the armored vehicle.
Bang bang!
Jiang Cheng stowed away the sniper-like nail gun and quickly pulled out a handgun-shaped nail gun, covering Zhao Zhirou as she made her way to the armored vehicle.
After Zhao Zhirou successfully got into the vehicle, Jiang Cheng fired the remaining ten nails in the gun, then opened the door and jumped into the driver’s seat.
Roar!
As soon as Jiang Cheng fastened his seatbelt, the armored vehicle, under Jarvis’s control, let out a roar like a fierce tiger and crushed the approaching zombies as it sped away from the scene.
Once the vehicle was back on the main road, Jiang Cheng glanced at Zhao Zhirou, who was sitting in the back, her eyes wide with wonder as she looked around.
“Let me introduce myself. My name is Jiang Cheng, and this is Liu Yuqing.”
“Hi!” Liu Yuqing, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, keeping an eye on the surveillance screen, turned and smiled, waving at Zhao Zhirou.
“Hel … Hello.” Zhao Zhirou was surprised to see another woman in the vehicle. She hadn’t expected it and awkwardly waved back.
But seeing Liu Yuqing, Zhao Zhirou’s wariness eased, and she breathed a sigh of relief, realizing she wasn’t alone with the man. She was now fairly certain that the man who saved her wasn’t a bad person.
She quickly adjusted her demeanor and smiled.
“Hello, I’m Zhao Zhirou.”
