At the Beginning, the Villain Is Secretly Loved by the Protagonist’s Mother

Chapter 13:

Chapter 13: A Strict Master Gives Birth to a Brilliant Disciple:

Sitting in his office, Wang Zhenxing received two notifications from the system. This instantly brightened his mood. The heroine’s increased favorability came with clear benefits. Hiring Lin Keqing had even altered the plot’s trajectory—something that wasn’t hard to figure out.

In the original plotline, Lin Keqing, with her impressive capabilities, was supposed to work under Qin Yi and help him amass wealth. But now, with Lin Keqing working for him, that plotline was impossible.

Qin Yi had lost a valuable ally, and for the first time, Wang Zhenxing had gained luck points.

He hadn’t received any luck points from Xu Yourou or Feng Qianqian, the two female supporting characters. Lin Keqing truly deserved her title as the heroine.

Putting aside his thoughts, Wang Zhenxing returned to work. Being the president of a company was a busy job, and without a secretary, he had to personally handle many tasks. However, this would only last for a few more days. Once Lin Keqing officially started, he planned to quickly delegate responsibilities to her. His ultimate goal was to work no more than an hour a day, freeing up time to enjoy life and reap rewards from the heroines and supporting characters.

As a villain, conflict with the protagonist Qin Yi was inevitable. The two were natural enemies—only one could prevail. Wang Zhenxing resolved to strengthen himself before Qin Yi’s appearance. Only then would he have the power to face him.

Two days later, at 9 p.m.

Wang Zhenxing arrived at a restaurant after work. Feng Qianqian had been waiting for a while.

“Uncle, you’re here!” she greeted him warmly, her smile sweet. She stood up immediately to pull out a chair for him and poured him a cup of tea as soon as he sat down.

“How did it go at the TV station today?” Wang Zhenxing asked, sipping his tea. His tone was that of a caring elder addressing a younger family member.

“Uncle, thanks to the introduction you arranged, everything went smoothly. I was assigned to intern for a children’s program at the station,” Feng Qianqian replied.

“I’ve already spoken to a friend there,” Wang Zhenxing said kindly. “With your sweet and cheerful personality, you’ll definitely appeal to children. The program needs a female host. Gain some experience first, and if you perform well, you might host the show in the future.”

“Thank you, Uncle. I won’t let you down,” Feng Qianqian said excitedly.

Wang Zhenxing nodded in approval. Placing Feng Qianqian at the TV station wasn’t just about helping her find a suitable position; he also wanted to maximize her value. Official media like TV stations held considerable influence, and through Feng Qianqian, he could access useful information. Since arranging this job had cost him some favors, he expected it to yield some returns.

After chatting briefly, their meal was served.

While eating, Wang Zhenxing casually asked Feng Qianqian about Lin Keqing’s parents.

“Keqing’s father is a farmer in the countryside, and her mother works as a nanny for a wealthy family in Qingling,” Feng Qianqian replied.

“Do you know where that family lives?”

Feng Qianqian shook her head. “I’m not sure, but I can ask her.”

“There’s no need,” Wang Zhenxing said. “If you ask her directly, it might raise suspicion. I’ll look into it myself.”

Lin Keqing had already completed her onboarding process and was set to start her internship the next day. The personnel records included information about her parents, which would allow him to locate her mother’s workplace. With his connections, obtaining such details wouldn’t be difficult.

The next morning, a slightly tired Wang Zhenxing arrived at his office.

“Good morning, Mr. Wang,” Lin Keqing greeted him politely, dressed in professional attire. The mix of youthful charm and newfound maturity in her appearance caught his attention. Though he only admired her professionalism, his expression remained stern.

“I’m not sure how the HR department made its selection, but since you were hired, you must have some ability. Don’t disappoint me,” he said with authority.

Lin Keqing nodded quickly. “Yes, Mr. Wang. I’ll do my best.”

She hesitated for a moment before adding, “You don’t look well-rested. Did you sleep poorly last night?”

Her comment startled him. Despite his efforts to appear energized, she had noticed. The truth was, he hadn’t rested well. He couldn’t stop thinking about “Shui Bingyue,” thanks to Feng Qianqian’s deliberate prodding.

After regaining his composure, he said, “The previous secretary resigned some time ago, so I’ve been managing many tasks alone. I hope you can adapt quickly during your internship. Otherwise, I’ll have to find a replacement.”

“I’ll work hard!” Lin Keqing promised earnestly.

“Good. Go make me a cup of coffee, and I’ll brief you on today’s tasks.”

Lin Keqing nodded and left to prepare coffee in the tea room. Returning shortly, she placed the coffee on his desk. After taking a few sips, he began outlining her responsibilities.

The president’s office was spacious, complete with a private bathroom, rest area, and a cubicle for the secretary. Its design often led to misconceptions about relationships between presidents and their secretaries, but nothing inappropriate had ever occurred in his office.

Once he finished delegating tasks, Lin Keqing moved to her cubicle. Despite her excellent academic record, she quickly realized that real-world work was much more challenging. College had not prepared her for many of the practical tasks she now faced.

Whenever she encountered difficulties, she sought guidance from Wang Zhenxing. However, unlike a patient teacher, he explained things only once. If she didn’t grasp it immediately, he showed little tolerance.

As a result, Lin Keqing was scolded at least twenty times on her first day. “A strict master produces a brilliant disciple,” the saying goes, and Wang Zhenxing lived up to it. His reprimands were harsh but measured, ensuring she didn’t lose confidence.

By the end of the day, Lin Keqing was emotionally drained. In her cubicle, she quietly cried, overwhelmed by the day’s challenges.

[The host scolded the heroine Lin Keqing and gained 40 villain halo points!]

“It seems my efforts weren’t wasted,” Wang Zhenxing thought with satisfaction, relishing the system’s reward.
