Chapter 335: We Are The Champions
Jayr POV - Earth, Georgia, Mert County, Greene Farm - 2010
As I watch the spitting image of Future Gohan standing in the middle of the field surrounded by the bodies of what are likely the raiders who attacked the Green Farm, there is only one word that resounds in my mind, 'Damn!'
At the same time, I can't stop myself from thinking as my mind moves at a speed faster than light, 'Among all the remaining Champions why was I randomly paired with this one? There is no doubt in my heart that he is the Champion of Void. I mean he is the almost perfect copy of Gohan, there are just a few differences between him and the Gohan I know. For one, he is much more muscular than Adult Gohan, and more importantly, there is that Saiyan tail wrapped around his waist.'
Then I put aside all those thoughts and focus on quickly analyzing every little information about this Champion and his possible abilities that I can gather using my knowledge about the Dragon Ball Universe, what I know for sure from his appearance, and what may be most likely through sheer speculation, 'I clearly remember like it was yesterday that the Champion of Void choose to be reincarnated as Gohan's twin brother but different from Gohan, he wanted to be a Legendary Super Saiyan. This means that at the very least I have to expect a very powerful berserking fighter with a hulking size and unnatural speed that continuously gets stronger the more it fights seemingly without any limits which is already quite a threat but still very manageable as it will simply be like a mindless beast. But of course, there is no way that the Champion in front of me would only be that capable, for sure he has found some solution to that problem. Like every other Dragon Ball fan who at least once in his life fantasized about such a scenario, I'm pretty sure that he was able to find some way to get his Legendary Super Saiyan transformation under control.'
At this point, I quickly try to think about how I would try to overcome this problem and grimly realize, 'I mean there are way too many solutions for that problem that it is not even funny. There are the Dragon Balls that can grant a wide variety of wishes, and if they don't work there are still the almighty Super Dragon Balls that seemingly can grant ANY wish. There are techniques and training methods to reinforce the spirit, willpower, or whatever else may affect the mind. There is even the option of using Magic to somewhat bypass the problem. But more importantly, there is the most basic staple of the Dragon Ball Universe, sheer, intense training. And those are only the first few solutions I came up with in a few instant of thinking about it.'
After thinking that, I further analyze the Saiyan's most obvious and threatening ability, 'The most obvious threat is for sure that the Champion won't be limited to only the Legendary Super Saiyan Transformation. After all, Saiyan are famous for their countless transformations which cause their hair to change color so much that they have basically covered all the colors of the rainbow and whose power multiplier gets higher and higher. The Legendary Super Saiyan Transformation is already quite powerful by itself, but then there are also the multipliers granted by a possible Legendary Super Saiyan 2 or Legendary Super Saiyan 3 Transformation then it truly becomes something to be regarded seriously. And what worries me the most is of course the presence of the Saiyan tail because there is only one reason to keep it, and that is the Super Saiyan 4 Transformation, one of the most powerful transformations of the Saiyan Race. The idea of a Legendary Super Saiyan becoming also a Super Saiyan 4 is nothing short of frightening...'
Then I quickly move on focusing on other possible abilities he may have learned, 'Well, for sure he is going to be a threat in both close combat and long-range combat, after all, in the Dragon Ball Universe, Martial Arts, and Ki Blasts are the main and most common way of battle and quite an effective way too at that and by being the son of Goku he must have learned from some of the best teachers of that universe, like Roshi, Kami, Popo, Piccolo, Goku, Whis. Moreover, I can't forget about the possibility of the Champion knowing some form of magic as I remember that Magic does exist in the Dragon Ball Universe and it can be quite tricky and powerful too, as shown by figures like Babidi, Buu, Towa, and Moro. So in case of battle, I also must prepare for him to pull off some unexpected magic spells. In fact, I also have to worry about hax-like sealing techniques like the Mafuba. Luckily regarding that one as long as there are no containers nearby then I shouldn't worry about it.'
At this point, this line of reasoning gets interrupted as I realize, 'This is getting nowhere! Even with all those deductions, there are still way too many unknowns. I mean even if I try to get ready to face literally everything that can be found in the Dragon Ball Universe, I still may be taken by surprise if he pulls off some other special power, technique, or ability that he learned from some other universe. Sure I can't dismiss any obvious hint about his capabilities, but I also can't focus too much on them, I simply have to be ready for anything. Moreover, I'm not even sure if we are actually going to battle in the first place.'
The reason why I'm thinking that, is because I immediately noticed that all the raiders lying on the ground are, in fact, still alive and breathing, sure they have many broken bones, but despite that they are in no actual danger of succumbing to their injuries as they are nowhere near grave enough, which may hint at the fact that the Champion of Void may actually be a decent person.
Of course, another argument that points in favor of my hypothesis that the Champion of Void may actually be a decent person is the fact that he IS Son Goku's son.
It may be personal bias as Son Goku is one of my childhood heroes, but I can't see him raising an evil person as his child, sure, he may be a somewhat reckless and easy-going parent, but it is in no way a bad one.
I mean the guy risked his life and even died many times to save his sons, family, and the world from the many threats they faced, supported his child's dream of becoming a scholar despite his personal preference over the martial path, and during the Buu Saga he even came back from death to have quality time with his kids, but it only got ruined because of Babadi.
The absent father labels that the fandom gave him are also mostly unfair as he only leaves home when Earth is facing some kind of threat and after Cell Saga, well, he is dead and can't be there for them and chose to not be revived, because he believed that he will be better off dead to not attract bad attention on Earth and further endanger his family.
Of course, all that is by ignoring the existence of the Dragon Ball Super version of Goku, but let's face it, that version is a bastardized one of the one we loved.
Shortly after all these thoughts quickly go through my head in almost an instant, I also decide how to approach this unexpected situation, 'In the end, I don't have to worry too much about the Champion of Void because, at the moment, he isn't a threat to me. I mean just like I can't use my Spiral Cosmo, he too can't use his Ki and without it, he is just a physically strong Saiyan, and while those are quite a bit stronger than Humans they are in no way close in pure power physical to races like the Kryptonians, Supernatural Humans like the ones living in Toriko Universe, or anomalies like Saitaman. This gives me an overwhelming advantage over him as I fully trained my body to the limits to be on par with such beings and can even transform to become even more powerful. So if the Champion of Void tries any sneaky moves he will surely regret it.'
Coming to that conclusion, I quickly tell Rick and the others to go and check on Hershel's family while I jump down from the cargo bed and start to walk toward the Champion of Void, who immediately notices my presence and grows visibly tense and wary as he stares at me with a focused expression on his face as he immediately recognizes me as a fellow Champion.
This makes me almost smile wryly while thinking, 'Indeed, no matter how much I try to mask it, it is incredibly easy for someone with sharp instinct and a lot of experience to guess my identity as a Champion. Even more so in universes like this one that were quite popular and whose presence of an unknown person among the main cast is very glaring.'
I stop a few meters away from the Champion of Void and with a confident smile and tone, I greet him and introduce myself, "Hello there. I'm Jayr Pucci, the Champion of Culture. Nice to meet you"
In response, the Champion of Void doesn't let down his guard but still politely replies, "Nice to meet you, too... I'm Son Goza. The Champion of Void."
Shortly after he said that we fell into silence as we stared at one other for a few moments before I broke the silence by saying in an extremely serious tone, "Before we start discussing other things, there is a very important and critical question I'd like to ask you and I hope that you will give me a sincere answer as that may very well impact the tone of our next interaction."
Hearing that, Son Goza grows even more tense and ready to react at any signal of aggression as he says, "Ask away... I'll promise you that I'll speak the truth as long as you don't ask for some dangerous secrets or information that may bring danger or trouble to me or the people I care for."
In response, I nod, take a deep breath to steady myself, look at Son Goza in the eyes, and then I ask, "Just by taking a single look at you, it's pretty clear that you are from the Dragon Ball Universe, one of the most famous universes in the Omniverse, and one quite powerful too. You must have seen incredible sights and encountered all sorts of people, so tell me the truth..."
Seeing Son Goza fully focus all his attention on me, I take a brief pause before I seriously ask, "... Are Bulma and Android 18 in person truly as hot as they were portrayed?"
In response to my very serious and very important question, Goza's eyes and mouth open wide as he looks at me in shock before his face blushes a little and he starts to stutter, "T-They... Y-You... Man! W-What k-kind of ridiculous question is that!?"
I cross my arms and reply with calm and confidence, "A very, very important and crucial one. I mean we are talking about Bulma and Android 18! There is no living, dead, transmigrated, or reincarnated Dragon Ball fan who didn't dream of them at least once in his life. And you got the chance to admire them up close... Wait! Did you end up with one of them? Or did you choose to go after some less-known option like Videl's classmate Erasa? Or even worse did you cuck your own brother and went after Videl?"
At this point, Son Goza interrupts me and yells, "Stop! Stop! Stop! First of all, Bulma-san and Android 18-san are the wives of Vegeta-san and Krillin-san, there is no way I would chase after them no matter how beautiful they are! I'm way too young for them to consider the idea! For similar reasons, I would never ever go after my brother's wife! There is no way I would ever try to do something that would harm my friends and family! Moreover, I'm way too young to worry about dating, even more so when I still didn't find the right woman!"
In response to that, I can't stop myself from showing a Cheshire smile on my face and ask, "Is that so? But isn't your twin brother already happily married with a child on his way?" which makes Son Goza exclaim, "He and I are two different people! Gohan was as lucky as Father, both of them found an incredible woman very quickly. On the other hand, I wasn't so lucky. There is also the fact, that I kept myself busy with training to become strong enough to protect my universe from not only the threats that I will face in the future but also from the possible invasions from other Champions!"
At the same time, hearing that, the grin on my face grows even bigger while thinking, 'Good! He fell from it! His genuine reaction to my unexpected questions revealed much more about his nature and temperament than he intended. With this answer, I am almost completely sure that Son Goza, the Champion of Void is indeed a genuinely good person. This is a piece of good news because I don't have to worry about my opponent causing mayhem, untold chaos, and destruction whenever he passes. But it will also mean that it may be more difficult to deal with him as I can't just in good conscience take advantage of his current weakened state to easily take care of him. Because of that, the only option left for me to win this Random Battle is to defeat him in a Champions Challenge, whose outcome isn't guaranteed if I'm not very careful in the choice of the challenge.'
While I'm thinking that, I notice that Rick and the others have now reached the Greene family house, and also notice the presence of a woman blocking their way while pointing a katana at them.
She is an African-American woman in her mid-30s with long flowing brown dreadlocks and dark brown eyes which I immediately recognize as Michonne, another one of the main protagonists of the TV Show.
Seeing the deadlock between them and that Shane is about to make a move and shoot, I immediately shout, "Shane, stop! She isn't with the raiders! She and this Goku cosplayer over here are the ones who fought off the raiders!" which is quickly followed by Son Goza who also yells, "That's right, Michonne! These people aren't with the raiders they came here to help the people living on this farm!"
At this point, the door of the Greene family house opens and an old man in his 70s with neatly combed white hair, blue eyes, and a cleanly shaved face walks out of the door, he is man is Hershel Greene, Maggie's father.
(Image Here - Hershel Greene)
He stands just outside of the door and calmly says, "That's right. These people are our friends from the nearby Lone Oak Farm and are the ones we called for help using our radios." before he looks at Rick and the others and says, "And you guys can lower your guns. That young man and this woman are the ones that came to our rescue while those raiders were shooting with their guns at our home."
Hearing that, Rick lowers his gun and looking at Hershel he asks, "I'm glad to see that you are fine. Is everyone okay?" to which he nods and replies, "Yes, everyone took cover in time. Only Otis and I were in some danger as we were close to the windows with our rifles ready to fight back for as long as possible."
Seeing that the situation between Rick's group and Michonne is no longer a problem, I focus back on Son Goza and say with a serious tone, "Now, I'd like to know what are your intentions for this Random Battle. On my part, I simply can't let the chance of improving my Blessing Level pass by again because if I fall behind too much I may not be able to confront more aggressive and ruthless Champions and that may endanger my family in my home universe."
Shortly after saying that, I looked right into Son Goza's eyes and asked, "What do you want to do? Do you want to fight for a chance to raise your Blessing level? Or do you want to give up your Blessing and let me win? I can promise you that in case you choose this option, I'll safely send you back to your home universe. I'll even swear it on my Concept or sign a contract enforced by all the Concepts if you do not trust my words."
Son Goza stands in silence for a few moments, but then I notice a fierce fighting spirit burning in his eyes as he stares back at me and says, "I admit that you look like a nice guy, but I simply can't trust the fate of this Omniverse to someone else. It's way too much power to trust someone else with it, in fact, I won't even fully trust myself with it. But at the very least, if it is in my hands I won't have to worry about the consequences of the wrong person doing whatever he, she, or it wants with that kind of power bringing infinite suffering to this Omniverse and all the people living in it. This is why I won't give up. I'll fight you!"
Hearing that, I smile a little and say, "Very well. In this case... I Challenge you!"
At the same time as I utter those words, the rule of the world around us suddenly changes.
I see that time has frozen as the world around us turns into a monochromatic color and an impossibly strong, glowing barrier surrounds both our bodies protecting us from just about anything.
Shortly after the barrier appearance, I hear Culture's voice as it declares, [A Champions Challenge has been issued. Right now all kinds of aggressive action are forbidden and both the Champions will be protected from all kinds of harm and shielded from all kinds of outside influences and interferences.]
In response to this, I see that Son Goza appears to be completely confused and surprised by what is going on as he looks around observing everything before he focuses back on me and asks, "What is this? What is going on!?"
Hearing that, I calmly ask, "Is this the first time you have experienced a Champions Challenge?" to which Son Goza simply nods, and seeing that, I patiently start to explain, "A Challenge or more precisely a Champions Challenge is one of the more peaceful ways the Champions taking part in the Battle Across the Omniverse can face each other, especially if they do not actually want to kill or harm their opponent. It functions this way, a Champion issues a challenge to the opposing Champion and declares the type of challenge and its rules. After that, if the challenged Champion thinks it is fair enough and accepts, then all Concepts will transfer the two Champions to the Challenge Space and create everything needed for this competition. If for example, it is a cooking contest they will create the kitchen, cooking wares, ingredients, and a fair judge, or a musical contest, where they will create the instrument and an audience, and so on. There are no limits we can compete in everything you can possibly think, even something as simple as who can sleep the most or who can piss the furthest, only our imagination is the limit, but of course, since both parties involved have to accept, such ridiculous challenges are unlikely."
After hearing my explanation, Son Goza nods and thinks about it for a few moments before he asks, "I see this is quite a good function, but can this Champions Challenge be refused in any way or once issued the two Champions must compete in some way or form no matter what?"
In response to his question, I honestly reply, "If the challenged Champion deems that the contest is way too disadvantageous or unfair for them, then he can refuse. At that point, the challenging Champion can offer another one, this can be done as many times as the Champions derise and if they can't reach consent, then they can dismiss the Champions Challenge altogether. In that case, both the Champions will be able to move and use their abilities once again, but the barrier protecting them won't fade away until a day passes. Moreover, the Champions Challenge has also a cool-down period of 1 year, where the two Champions can't challenge each other again."
Hearing that, Son Goza hums and comments, "This is nice... So I don't have to kill all the other Champions to take away their Blessing and take them out of the competition. I remember the Concepts talking about some kind of official challenge, but I dismissed the idea and mostly forgot about it thinking that it would be way too naive to trust the words of a Champion who may simply be trying to trick you, lower your guard and take you out with a surprise attack. But this is much better than I thought."
After saying that, Son Goza looks back at me and asks with confidence, "I got it. Thanks for telling me all this. Now, how are we going to do this?"
In response to his question, I focus my gaze on the ground and quickly start to think about my options, 'Well, for sure I have to dismiss all the obvious choices that give me an overwhelming advantage as Son Goza is surely going to refuse them as any sane person would. I could challenge him in a knowledge test about the Dragon Ball Universe, but that is a very foolish choice. Sure thanks to my Blessing I remember every single episode of the anime, every page of the manga, and every single information that I've read on the internet in both my previous life and in the Arifureta Universe which is a HELL LOT of information. But even with all that, there is no way that I can compete with someone who actually lived in that universe for over 20 years. My own personal experience with my home universe taught me that second-hand information isn't all that reliable or comprehensive.'
Thinking about that, I can't help but realize, 'In the end, the best option to make Son Goza accept this Champions Challenge is to choose a type of competition in which both of us are quite assured of our chances of coming out on top as the victor, a simple and straightforward battle. Not the best choice as Son Goza will surely be a force to be reckoned with, but still, I'm very confident in my own chances of victory. After all, I didn't spend all these years constantly training in vain. I still have a few trump cards that no one was able to force me to use yet and those are some true game changers.'
Coming to that conclusion, I raise my head and stare right into Son Goza's eyes before I say while being careful in my wording, "I challenge you to a battle whose winner will only be decided when one of us gives up or dies, but at the end of the battle, everything will be fully restored to the same state before the battle took place so that if one of us perish or get irreparably maimed, wounded, or cursed in any way or capacity we will both come out of it like nothing actually happened bringing back with us only the memories and any gain or improvement we experienced during the battle. This way in the eventuality that one of us dies in our battle, we will quickly brought back to life without any negative consequences."
Son Goza looks back at me in silence very likely thinking about the challenge I just issued and after a few seconds, he proposes, "I want to add a few more conditions to our battle. First of all, this battle will only involve the two of us. No summoned companion, magic spirits, or any other outside helper only you and I will battle. Then I also want to ban the use of any kind of item, be it a restorative like the Senzu Bean, overpowered weapons, or even some other kind that enhances or grants some power in some way or another like the Sacred Gears. We will only fight by using our bodies, our internal energies like Ki, or magic if you are able to use it."
Hearing that, I almost clicked my tongue as his condition did cut off quite a few of my options, like using Crateris or summoning, Wormmon, V-mon, and Patamon to fight by my side, but despite that, I still smiled confidently and said, "Fine, I accept those conditions."
At the same time, both Culture and Void's voice is heard as they say in perfect sync, [[Challenge agreement reached. Champions Challenge beings!]]
