Becoming the Elf King’s Bride (BL)

Chapter 11: Chapter Eleven

"I am sorry" King Zedekiel said, standing before Ron. "I didn't want to hurt your sister but I can't go on with this marriage". Every single word spoken was chilling and none of them sounded sincere. As if he was being forced to say it.

The hatred he felt was bone deep and he couldn't hide it. He didn't bother trying to sound like he meant what he was saying because he didn't.

"Why not?" Ron asked. "You asked for her hand yourself and when it was given to you, you want to discard it. Do you think marriage is a joke? Is my sister some toy?"

Ron was even more hurt that Zedekiel was right before him but he couldn't recognize him. Then he recalled that he was wearing a disguise that day. That stupid wig and ugly mustache! How he wished he revealed his true identity.

Zedekiel shook his head. "I was forced by my Queen mother. The truth is, I do not love your sister. I'll ruin two lives by marrying her. Mine as well as hers. I hope you understand". He talked with a straight face. His words sounded rehearsed. As if he had planned to say all these things in case he was confronted. Like just reading words off a book but not understanding them.

No. Three. Three lives.

That was what Ron wanted to say. Three lives would be ruined. He'd be forced to see a man he loves marry his own sister. He'd be filled to the brim with jealousy as he watches them take their vows and kiss. The person he wants to be with will be his brother in law. He didn't want that. He really didn't but...

He had told Rose that he would try.

Ron tried to think about it from a different point of view. This man didn't even know about his feelings. Rose and him had already decided to get married. Ron himself, couldn't really come out and reveal everything just like that. What if he's not gay? Who was he kidding? Of course the King isn't gay! But... could he be bent?

He decided to propose a deal that could earn both he and his sister chances to be close to the King and gain his affection. He would compete fairly with his sister and if he loses at the end, he'd accept it.

"Then you don't have to marry her right away" he said. "You can get to know her. You can... f-fall in love with her". The last sentence was very hard for him to speak out. It felt like something was lodged in his throat.

King Zedekiel didn't seem to agree. "I don't think you-

"My sister is great!" Ron interrupted. "She's beautiful, caring, smart and loyal. She'll make a good queen. She's very easy to love. Just give her a chance. How can you give up without trying?"

Tears sprang to Ron's eyes. Promoting his sister like a good product. Well, he could think of no other way. It's not like he was going to force the King to marry her. Threats won't work either. The best way was to convince him. His voice was weak towards the end.

"Don't give up on my sister".

'More like give me a chance. Give me a chance to stay and court you properly. A chance to win your love'

Ludiciel's heart was greatly moved but he didn't have the right to speak in such situations. The decision was his brother's alone.

The desperate look on Ron's face didn’t move Zedekiel one bit. He didn't want to marry Rose so he won’t do it. In fact, he wanted nothing to do with anyone outside the North.

Humans. They were all a bunch of greedy selfish people. All they cared about was themselves. They would betray a loved one for their own selfish gains.

Zedekiel wanted to follow his heart. He didn't want to sacrifice his own happiness for a future his mom thinks would come.

A marriage between an elf and a human.

She thinks it would make their people change and bring peace but Zedekiel felt history would just repeat itself.

He still had time. He could meet, fall in love and marry someone else. Why was his mother bent on him marrying an Ashenmore anyway? The filthiest of the filthiest. The worst of the worst.

Seeing as Zedekiel was saying nothing, Ron spoke; “Let’s make a deal. I assure you, it will benefit us as well as our Kingdoms”.

A deal? With a human? Impossible.

“No” Zedekiel refused right away. “I do not want to listen to anything. The wedding will not hold. I will not marry your sister. Leave”

Ron couldn’t believe it. His silver haired hero was too harsh. He was nothing like that night. If the face wasn’t the same, Ron would swear that it wasn’t him.

“But you didn’t even hear me out. Just listen t-“

“I said no!” he thundered. What more do you want?! I don’t love your sister and I don’t want to have anything to do with her! Do I have to drill these words into your skull for you to understand!?”

Ron held back his tears and pushed his anger down. This King was unreasonable. If he gets angry and they keep arguing, they’ll get nowhere so he decided to use a different tactic. "Do you have a sister?"

The king was confused at the sudden change of topic. “Yes. Why?”

"Can I see her?"

The king frowned, wondering what Ron was up to. “Again, why?”

“I want to show you something” Ron answered and Zedekiel raised a brow. He didn’t get it but still called for his sister anyway.

A beautiful lady shorter than Ron with waist length silver hair, grey eyes and pale skin walked into the throne room with her head high. She was wearing a shimmering white gown which had golden butterflies embroidered everywhere on it.

She curtsied when she came in front of both Ron and Zedekiel. "Brother, your highness. I am Mariel. Welcome to Netheridge"

Ron smiled and bowed. Mariel of course was affected by this smile. Her heart throbbed within her chest. So this was the handsome prince of Ashenmore. Stretching out his hand, he took Mariel's in his and planted a light kiss on her skin. "Thank you Princess Mariel. My name is Ron. Just call me Ron in the future"

Princess Mariel flushed immediately.

The King and his brother were confused. What did Ron want to do now?

Ron didn't release her hand but got down on one knee and gazed into her eyes. "Princess Mariel, will you marry me?"
