Chapter 29: 28: District 80
Shiro woke up in the morning with a slight headache, but it was bearable. Pain was nothing new to him—it was almost a constant companion by now. Still lying on the bed, he let his mind wander.
What would the powers of my Zanpakutō be?
He sighed and shook his head. "That's a long way off," he muttered to himself.
Rising from the bed, he headed to the bathroom to take a shower and get dressed. Once ready, he joined Aizen and Haruto, and together they made their way to their first Kidō class, taught by Instructor Sayuri.
As they walked, Haruto yawned dramatically. "Why do we have to learn Kidō first thing in the morning? Can't we do something that requires less thinking?"
Shiro smirked. "Because if they left it for later, you'd fall asleep in the middle of the lesson."
Aizen chuckled lightly. "Kidō is essential for balance. Besides, Haruto, if you ever learned a good Bakudō spell, maybe you could finally stop relying on brute strength all the time."
"Brute strength gets the job done!" Haruto shot back, puffing out his chest. "And I don't see you complaining when I save your skin."
Shiro laughed. "You? Save Aizen's skin? That's a story I'd love to hear."
"Don't encourage him," Aizen said, shaking his head with a smile.
The Lesson Begins
When they arrived at the classroom, Instructor Sayuri was already waiting for them, as punctual as always.
"Good morning, everyone," she began, her voice crisp but warm. "Today, we'll be focusing on Bakudō. For those unfamiliar, Bakudō spells are primarily used for binding and defense. They are essential for controlling your opponents and gaining an advantage in battle."
She launched into an explanation of how Bakudō worked, breaking down its fundamentals. Afterward, she demonstrated the first spell in the Bakudō arsenal.
"This is Bakudō #1: Sai (Restrain)," she said. Holding up her hand, she pointed her index and middle fingers toward a practice dummy. Instantly, invisible energy locked the dummy's arms behind its back.
The class murmured in awe, but Shiro remained focused. The moment Sayuri activated the spell, he activated his Sharingan, studying every detail of the technique. Unbeknownst to him, Aizen was watching with a peculiar smile, his sharp eyes catching Shiro's subtle use of his special ability.
"Now it's your turn," Sayuri announced. "Pair up and practice."
Shiro stepped forward, his hands forming the necessary gestures as he focused his Reiatsu. "Bakudō #1: Sai," he commanded, and with precision, his target's arms snapped behind its back.
It was perfect. Too perfect for a beginner.
Sayuri blinked in surprise but quickly recovered. "Impressive, Shiro. Keep practicing to refine it further."
Meanwhile, Aizen continued to observe quietly, his mind racing with thoughts about Shiro's potential.
Later That Day
The rest of the day passed uneventfully, and soon Shiro parted ways with Aizen and Haruto, heading to the training grounds alone. Once there, he summoned his four shadow clones, careful not to overexert himself.
"You know the drill," he told them.
The first clone began practicing Zanjutsu, refining strikes and stances.
The second and third clones focused on Kidō, repeating spells for accuracy and speed.
The fourth clone dedicated itself to Ninjutsu, honing the Water Prison Jutsu and Shark Bullet techniques.
Satisfied with their assignments, Shiro sat down with his Asauchi, preparing to meditate. However, before he could begin, a system notification appeared in his vision.

Accept?
Yes / No
Shiro frowned, his finger hovering over the option.
Katsu did mention District 80... It's dangerous, full of crime and violence. But I can handle it.
Taking a deep breath, he clicked "Yes."
Shiro's footsteps echoed through the desolate streets as he made his way toward District 80. The air was thick with the scent of decay, and the shadows seemed to stretch unnaturally long, even in the light of the moon.
Rukongai, for all its divisions, was still a place where souls lived, but District 80—this forgotten corner of the Soul Society—was a place where life had long since lost any semblance of hope. Shiro had heard about the lawless, dangerous nature of this district, but the reality was far darker than he had imagined.
He had to walk for over an hour, his boots crunching over broken glass and discarded debris. The dilapidated buildings loomed like ghostly sentinels, their walls cracked and covered in soot. Small groups of scruffy, ragged figures lingered on street corners, their eyes hollow with either malice or desperation. It was a place where survival was a game of ruthlessness, and kindness was a rare commodity.
Every step Shiro took felt heavier as he ventured deeper into the district. The atmosphere was oppressive, as though the very air was poisoned by the corruption that festered here. He passed abandoned shops with shattered windows, alleyways that smelled of rot and blood, and the faint sound of shouting or fighting carried on the wind. He couldn't see much—only the eerie flickers of light coming from distant torches, casting sickly shadows across the ruined streets.
It was as if the district itself was alive with violence, a place where the very souls who once inhabited it had been twisted by the horrors they had faced.
This place... it's worse than I imagined, Shiro thought, his hand tightening around the hilt of his sword. His senses were heightened now, every sound, every shift in the dark alleyways sending a ripple of tension through him. But his mission was clear. He was here to find Hollows.
It had been over another hour since he entered District 80, but there was still no sign of any Hollows. His senses were stretched thin as he continued through the dark alleys, his eyes scanning every corner for any trace of the dark, malevolent energy that signified their presence.
Suddenly, the air seemed to shift. A strange pressure filled the air, and the ground beneath his feet trembled. It was faint at first, but then it grew stronger. A swirling distortion opened up before him—a Garganta.
Here we go, Shiro thought, his grip tightening on his sword.
The Garganta cracked open, the edges of the rift glowing with an eerie purple light as it widened. From the dark, twisting void, monstrous figures began to step out. They were Hollows—wraith-like creatures that had entered Soul Society through this rift, their masks twisted into grotesque shapes. The pressure they emanated was suffocating, each Hollow a living embodiment of death.
Shiro's exhaustion from creating the clones still lingered, but the sight of the Hollows stirred his instincts. His body moved before his mind could even process the situation.
He activated his Byakurai immediately, the blast of concentrated Reiatsu streaking toward the nearest Hollow with lightning speed. The blast struck the creature in the chest, sending it staggering back with a shriek of pain, but it didn't fall. Tougher than I expected.
With a fierce snarl, the Hollow charged, its claws slashing toward him. Shiro side-stepped just in time, his body moving with fluid precision. He quickly followed up with a Bakudō #1: Sai, pointing his fingers toward the Hollow's arms, locking them behind its back. The Hollow roared, struggling against the restraint, but the Bakudō held firm.
Shiro's eyes flicked to the other two Hollows emerging from the Garganta, their energy swirling in the air as they began to charge. I can't let them overwhelm me. Time to finish this.
He whispered the incantation under his breath and cast Shō, the powerful push of Reiatsu launching the restrained Hollow back into the nearest wall with a bone-shattering thud. The force of the impact was enough to crack the concrete, and the Hollow slumped, its energy fading as it dissolved into the air.

Quest Progress: 1 Hollow Killed (1/3)
The remaining two Hollows were already closing in, faster than Shiro anticipated. One of them was a giant, with arms nearly as thick as tree trunks and a jagged mask that gleamed under the moonlight. The other was more nimble, its body twisted and contorted as it darted through the debris like a shadow.
Shiro took a deep breath, gathering his Reiatsu. His body was fatigued from creating the clones, but he knew he couldn't afford to hold back. His hands moved quickly, weaving through hand signs, and he cast Water Prison Jutsu. The swirling water formed a bubble around the first Hollow, trapping it inside. The Hollow slammed against the walls of the watery sphere, trying to break free, but the seal held it in place.
Now for the finishing blow, Shiro thought, his eyes narrowing as he gathered more energy. With a fluid motion, he pulled his sword and charged the second Hollow, his blade glowing with power. He leaped toward it and performed a fluid series of strikes, slicing through the Hollow's limbs before delivering a final blow to its mask. The Hollow exploded in a burst of black energy, dissipating into nothingness.

Quest Progress: 2 Hollows Killed (2/3)
Shiro turned his attention back to the Water Prison. The first Hollow was still struggling inside, its mask cracking from the pressure of the water. Shiro grinned slightly, then thrust his hand out and released a powerful Byakurai. The blast of Concetrated Reiatsu shot forward like a spear, piercing the Hollow's mask with ease. The Hollow let out one last shriek before vanishing in a swirl of dark energy.

Shiro breathed heavily, his exhaustion now fully settling in. The adrenaline of the battle had kept him going, but now that the danger was over, he could feel the weight of his fatigue. His clones had drained a lot of his energy, and the fight had only exacerbated that. He slumped against a nearby building, letting the cool air wash over him as he tried to catch his breath.
