Chapter 3: CHAPTER Three: Gossip Girl
" What am I hearing? Is it true? Ashley bent over, her lips on Emily's ear as she asked curiously. Her gossip girl mode is fully activated.
Emily was busy packing her stuff into a box, ready to move to her new office space.
"Emily say something! Ashley pouted.
Emily rolled her eyes at her. "What is it, Ashley?
"That you didn't just get your job back but also got promoted ".
Emily exhaled. "I see news travels so fast".
"Come on Emily ", Ashley nudged. "I'm your girl ".
"Yes, it's true bestie ", Emily said with a smile.
"Wow. I almost couldn't believe it ", Ashley gasped. "Who in history has lost their job and gets it back the next day with a big promotion. You're so incredible, dear ". Ashley hugged Emily.
"Yeah right", Emily smiled.
"How did you do it? Ashley asked.
"Secret ". Emily winked and made a lip zip sign.
"You're so lucky ", Ashley pouted.
Emily laughed. "It's not just sheer luck. Let's call it seeing opportunities in misfortunes".
"Hmmmm. So smart! Ashley said. "Well, Congratulations, girl. I'm so happy for you again".
'Thank you'.
"We need to go celebrate it, girl! Ashley said with a voice full of excitement.
"I know girl. But that would be some other time, "Emily said, carrying her laptop from the desk.
"Really? That's unfair", Ashley said with her usual puppy eyes. A pitiful look she had mastered whenever she wanted to persuade Emily.
Emily rolled her eyes. "Ashley Taylor, I have got work to do today. A lot of appointments for our upcoming project ".
"Okay ". Ashley agreed. "But promise me you will give me full details when you are free".
"Alright gossip girl", Emily laughed.
"And don't forget you're taking us out for dinner".
"What dinner? Emily sighed.
"To celebrate your promotion of course", Ashley said with a cunning smile.
"No expensive dish. Deal?
"Deal! My dear minimalist ", Ashley laughed. "Don't be selfish, girl".
Emily settled down in her new office. The room was everything she had envisioned. Large windows lined one wall, allowing natural light to flood the space and bathe it in a warm, golden glow. Outside, the city skyline stretched endlessly, a perfect reminder of how far she had come.
The sleek, modern design of the office matched her personality—clean lines, neutral tones with pops of colour, and a perfect blend of comfort and professionalism. A polished mahogany desk stood at the centre, flanked by a comfortable leather chair that practically invited her to sink into it and get to work.
Along one side of the office was a built-in bookshelf, already stocked with a mix of industry journals, motivational reads, and personal favourites she had brought from home. A vase of fresh lilies sat atop the shelf, their fragrance subtly filling the room.
She walked over to the sitting area—a plush grey couch paired with a glass coffee table—and ran her fingers over the soft fabric. It was perfect for brainstorming sessions or hosting casual conversations with clients and colleagues.
The small personal touches made it uniquely hers. She placed a framed photograph of herself on the desk, alongside a handcrafted pen holder Ashley gifted her last Christmas. On the wall hung paintings and pictures of lipsticks, compact powders, and other make-up materials.
Emily smiled to herself, the corners of her mouth lifting in pure satisfaction. This wasn't just an office—it was a symbol of her hard work, resilience, and the journey that had brought her here. She sank into her chair, letting the reality of it all wash over her.
"This is my space," she whispered, the words filling her with pride and excitement. A sense of renewed purpose filled her as she imagined all the possibilities this room would bring—new projects, groundbreaking ideas, and milestones yet to come.
For Emily, this wasn't just an office. It was the beginning of a new chapter.
