BTTH: The Legend Of Xiu Emperor

Chapter 22: Meeting Gu Yuan

The young Dou Di now approached slowly, his small steps steady and composed.

"Father," Hun Xiu greeted respectfully, bowing slightly to Hun Tian Di.

Straightening his posture, Hun Xiu stood tall and confident. He had always remembered his father's teachings: As the son of Hun Tian Di, you must never bow your head. Stand tall and proud, always.

"Hmm," Hun Tian Di acknowledged with a slight nod, his expression one of satisfaction.

Gu Yuan, who stood beside Hun Tian Di, also nodded approvingly. The boy's demeanor was extraordinary.

Turning to Gu Yuan, Hun Tian Di smiled and asked, "Brother Gu, what do you think of my son?"

Gu Yuan smiled in return. "Your son is extraordinary—a rare talent among men. He has the potential to become Dou Di."

"Hahaha..."

Hun Tian Di laughed heartily, his delight evident. "Brother Gu, thank you for the compliment. My son is indeed promising, but he is still far from becoming Dou Di."

Despite his humble words, the smile on his face betrayed him; it was clear how proud he was of his son.

Hun Xiu was startled upon hearing Hun Tian Di address the man in black robes as "Brother Gu." If his guess was correct, this man was none other than Gu Yuan—the patriarch of the Ancient Clan and one of the two Nine-Star Dou Di powerhouses on the continent.

(Supposed to be 3 but Void Devouring Flame haven't revealed yet his 9-star Dou Sheng strength and of course we'll be excluding Zi Yan's father. Since currently, no one knows where he is or if he is dead or alive.)

Realizing this, Hun Xiu's respect for the man grew. It made sense now why this person could speak so casually with Hun Tian Di.

When his gaze shifted to the small figure clinging to Gu Yuan's leg, Hun Xiu had a bold thought. Was this child Gu Yuan's son? He remembered reading the original novel, though much of the plot had faded from his memory. If he recalled correctly, Gu Yuan had no son—only a daughter named Gu Xun'er, who was the protagonist's love interest.

Then again, he himself had become Hun Tian Di's son, so why couldn't Gu Yuan have a son?

This was clearly the butterfly effect in action. The realization that he was now the metaphorical butterfly made Hun Xiu feel both amazed and amused.

Gu Yuan broke Hun Xiu's train of thought with a smile. "Brother Hun, your son's cultivation talent is terrifying. He will undoubtedly become a powerful Dou Di in the future. Brother Hun, you should stop being modest."

Gu Yuan's tone carried genuine envy. How he wished he had such a talented son! But since he couldn't have one, he resolved to take the next best approach:

"If I can't have a son such talented as yours, then I'll just get him as my son-in-law," Gu Yuan mused inwardly.

Out loud, he turned to Hun Tian Di with a serious expression. "Brother Hun, I came here today to discuss an important matter with you."

"Oh?" Hun Tian Di raised an eyebrow in curiosity. "I wonder what important matter Brother Gu wishes to discuss?"

"Before we begin..." Gu Yuan squatted down to address the child clinging to his leg. Gently patting her head, he said, "Xun'er, why don't you go play with this young man for a while? Your father has some business to discuss with Uncle Hun."

"Alright!" The child's large, bright eyes sparkled as she nodded obediently. Her cuteness was undeniable.

Hun Xiu couldn't help but murmur inwardly, "Xun'er? That's an interesting name."

(TL/N: I know it's kinda unrealistic to not realize even after knowing her name now. But I think he might be thinking that any child of Gu Yuan may have the name Xun and like how Hun Tian Di addresses him, Xiu'er, Gu Yuan does the same by calling her Xun'er.)

Gu Yuan looked at Hun Xiu and asked, "Little one, would you mind taking her outside to play?"

Instead of responding immediately, Hun Xiu turned his gaze to Hun Tian Di, silently seeking his father's approval.

Hun Tian Di nodded.

With a smile, Hun Xiu looked at Gu Yuan and said, "Of course, I'd be happy to." Then he crouched down, speaking to the little one in a warm tone. "Come here, little brother. Let's go play together."

"Little brother?" Gu Xun'er tilted her head in confusion but toddled over to Hun Xiu. She threw herself into his arms, giggling, "Big...brother...play!"

Her voice was soft and melodious, and the term "big brother" made Hun Xiu's heart warm in a way he hadn't felt before.

"Boo!" Hun Xiu playfully kissed her cheek before carrying her out of the hall.

Gu Yuan, watching this interaction, was speechless. His expression twisted as he thought, Did this brat just kiss my daughter?

"Brother Gu," Hun Tian Di's voice interrupted Gu Yuan's thoughts.

"Hmm?" Gu Yuan forced a smile and turned back to Hun Tian Di.

"To be honest, Brother Hun, my visit today was more than a casual trip. I'd like to propose a powerful alliance between us," Gu Yuan said.

"A powerful alliance?" Hun Tian Di's surprise was evident. While he and Gu Yuan maintained a surface-level friendship, they had long been wary of each other. The idea of joining forces had once seemed absurd to him.

But now, hearing Gu Yuan make this offer, Hun Tian Di couldn't help but wonder what had prompted the change.

Regaining his composure, Hun Tian Di chuckled. "Brother Gu, surely you jest!"

Gu Yuan shook his head with a smile. "I'm not joking, Brother Hun. I'm serious. If we join forces, the entire continent will be within our grasp."
