BTTH: The Legend Of Xiu Emperor

Chapter 7: Choosing A Cultivation Method

When Hun Xiu heard Hun Tian Di's evaluation of him, his heart trembled slightly. Even though he now knew he had activated the Super Divine Dou Di bloodline and signed in to the system, the word "Dou Di" felt like a distant dream.

Becoming a Dou Di?

It wasn't that he hadn't thought about it, but it felt too lofty at this moment.

After all, even if he had the potential to become a Dou Di, it was just potential. The future was unpredictable, and many geniuses had met untimely ends.

That said, as the son of Hun Tian Di, dying young was out of the question. Who dared to tarnish Hun Tian Di's reputation by allowing his son to perish prematurely?

Still, Hun Xiu was cautious. To truly live freely, one needed strength. At the very least, achieving the level of Dou Sheng was necessary to have the freedom to explore the world safely.

Without that strength, wandering recklessly was a gamble.

Hun Xiu reminded himself: no one is born the protagonist of the story. He didn't delude himself into thinking he was an exception. Instead, he focused on working hard to improve his strength.

For now, survival was key.

As for his lofty aspiration to change the fate of the Soul Clan? That was a secondary goal, contingent on opportunity and growth was his first priority.

For now, staying low-key was the best strategy.

"Father, you are too kind. Xiu'er's bloodline may be strong, but it doesn't deserve such high praise," Hun Xiu replied respectfully, coming back to his senses.

Hun Xiu understood the dangers of "praise to death." He had no intention of losing his mind over a compliment from Hun Tian Di.

Arrogance could lead to downfall, and his current strength didn't allow him to stand in the spotlight. For now, humility and caution were his priorities.

Hun Tian Di's eyes glimmered with satisfaction. "Neither arrogant nor humble. Very good, Xiu'er."

Hun Tian Di's tone softened. "But you are too modest. You deserve such an evaluation."

Hun Xiu remained silent. He wasn't sure how to respond. Should he agree and risk seeming conceited? Or continue to be humble and possibly offend his father?

Ultimately, silence felt like the safest choice.

Seeing Hun Xiu's reticence, Hun Tian Di decided to move on to his main purpose for being there.

Just as Hun Tian Di was about to speak, a voice rang out in Hun Xiu's mind.

"Choose a technique:"

1. High-level Heavenly Technique: Emperor Burning Fire Technique.

2. Unknown Technique: Flame Devouring Codex.

Hun Xiu's heart skipped a beat. "System, is there any difference between the two?"

"Of course," the system replied. "The first is one of the most powerful fire-attributed techniques known on the continent. The second, though unknown, holds supreme possibilities and a great chance of leading to become a Dou Di."

Hun Xiu's decision was instant. A great chance to become a Dou Di? That wasn't even a question. "System, I choose the Flame Devouring Codex."

Hun Tian Di brought out two techniques. One emanated a blazing, fiery aura—it was the high-level Heavenly-grade "Emperor Burning Flame Technique," known as one of the strongest fire-attribute techniques on the continent.

The other was the "Flame Devouring Codex." Compared to the Emperor Burning Flame Technique, it looked ordinary.

Hun Tian Di spoke calmly. "Xiu'er, now that you've activated your Dou Di bloodline, you need a technique to cultivate. Choose one of these."

He added, almost casually, "Your father cultivates the Emperor Burning Flame Technique."

The implication was clear.

Hun Xiu appeared conflicted, his gaze shifting between the two techniques. After a moment, he reached toward the Emperor Burning Fire Technique.

Hun Tian Di nodded approvingly. His son had made the "correct" choice.

But just as Hun Xiu's hand was about to land on the Emperor Burning Flame Technique, he paused. Then, with firm resolve, he pivoted and grabbed the Flame Devouring Codex.

"I choose the Flame Devouring Codex, Father," Hun Xiu declared.

Hun Tian Di froze, bewildered. He had given such an obvious hint, yet Hun Xiu still chose the "unknown" technique.

"Ahem," Hun Tian Di coughed, regaining his composure. "Xiu'er, how about reconsidering? This technique may not be suitable for you."

Hun Xiu shook his head, his grip on the Flame Devouring Codex tightening. "Father, I feel a strong connection to this technique. I must practice it."

Hun Tian Di stared at his son in silence, his expression unreadable.
