Chapter 1557 Breaking Away
--- Kamiko ---
Kamiko felt her breathing start to become uneven. The adrenaline was wearing off and that feeling of fear was starting to sneak back in even though she was quite certain that the taurs were still nearby. Taking her shaking hands she let go over the side of the crate and shifted around, pushing away the built up snow and raising her hands above her head.
A bit more shifting to get her feet under her and she pushed up.
Their was a moment of resistance and then the crate shot off as she pressed a bit harder on it, breaking through the snow and sending the crate flying. Kamiko considered that a minor issue as she jumped up and out of the hole… only to land on the powdered snow nearby and sink right back down again.
The snow made it up to around eye level and was not convenient at all, especially not where the ice hit certain sensitive areas.
Kamiko let out a shiver. It wasn't cold to her, not yet but it certainly wasn't comfortable and the echo of what she knew cold to be was still felt. Kamiko wanted to take a few more moments to centre herself when she looked around and noticed she could see… somewhat. It was still snowing but as if the avalanche had cleared out the storm somehow her range of vision had expanded.
Not a major amount but enough to see the approaching taurs. Annoyingly there was three of them now… and she could see how they kept up.
It turns out? They can just skate over the nice. It still seemed to compact the snow somewhat and they took steps occasionally, but they were almost upon her already. The small distance she could see them from was rapidly closing and Kamiko was at a loss, even with the fear pushed away.
The terrain was horrifically unfavourable for her. That needed to change. Kamiko pulled out her naginata and whipped it around the nearby area, blowing away a good deal of snow, but likely not enough. She didn't have time for more as two of the taurs spread out around her and struck down at her body with their 'arms'.
Kamiko charged off towards the left, directly at the taur's face in an attempt to jump through its attacking arms and use its back to manoeuvre around. Kamiko quickly realised she didn't put enough force into her jump, as despite its derpy looking face when it opened its mouth it showed it was quite capable of biting off her legs if it tried.
Reacting quickly Kamiko kicked off one of the arms and away from the group. The angle was bad and Kamiko felt the second arm slam into her side as she did so, potentially cracking a rib in the process.
Kamiko couldn't help but hiss in pain as she eyed the three monsters. Clearly they have chosen violence. I don't think I can get away from these damned things anymore so I guess we're going to have to kill them. Decision made Kamiko blew out a long stream of fire onto the nearest taur. It screamed in response though didn't look to be in major pain.
Kamiko couldn't help but be brought down to the floor at the sound.
The two healthy taurs approached her while the burning one slapped itself with its hands in an attempt to put out the fire. It didn't work like that at ALL but the thing was trying. The problem was… Kamiko knew she'd used a good ten percent of her reserves on that breath of fire and the damned thing was still quite healthy.
Any ice that formed on its skin because of her fire simply cracked as it moved around and broke off. It seemed the fire hadn't penetrated deeply at all and the wound was quite survivable.
*Dammit. I might love my ice attribute most of the time but when it comes to raw destruction it can't always measure up. It's probably the layers of blubber and I'm not sure Hunter would be better off but dammit I was really hoping that would work. Hmm… is it-*
Kamiko didn't have a chance to ponder the issue long, she had to dive out of the way of another set of attacks from the two healthy taurs. Kamiko threw herself into the piles of snow, slowing her down massively and spraying snow everywhere but it got her out of the way.
Deciding she'd had enough of this, Kamiko brought out a shield from her ring and kept charging forward like some sort of discount snow-plough.
It wasn't great but the taurs slowly followed along. As she cleared away as much of the snow as she could, Kamiko kept an eye on them. It seemed that the taurs' problem with catching her revolved around their gliding magic. If they were too close they couldn't glide along the snow for some reason. Seemed like a pretty major negative to her, but it was quite noticeable.
Every time they got close, they'd drop back into their standard stomp and they… really didn't put that much effort into it.
Kamiko grimaced as she looked ahead. She'd almost managed a full lap of snow clearing but, in that time, the third taur had recovered and it was looking right at her. Its face looked remarkably fine, so it must have blocked with its arms things… which also looked much better then she'd expect them too.
The muscular arms did have some burn marks and discoloured patches but they seemed perfectly moveable.
Grimacing at the cost Kamiko waited until she was close and then threw the shield directly at the things face hoping to stun it. The damned cow simply battered the shield away, causing it to go spinning into the snow. Kamiko breathed out another large breath of demonic energy, trying this time to concentrate it directly in front of her.
The taur was having none of it this time, and shot off to the side like it had rockets attached to its feet. It started rolling sideways and away from her, leaving a bit trail and disappearing into the hale once again. I wasn't expecting that… and it will probably be back… but that means these damned things are somewhat intelligent dammit.
Kamiko glanced back at the two behind her and wondered what the best course of action was… and quickly realised that there was still no reason to get too fancy. Kamiko pushed a bunch of fire from her hands up and into her naginata, concentrating it in she blade specifically causing it to be set alight.
The two taurs sped up slightly at the sight and charged her once again. Kamiko watched them closely, waiting for them to swing and… there. She dashed slightly to the slide and slashed at the bulky arm of the taur giving only a shallow cut… and then Kamiko pumped as much demonic fire as she could manage into the damned thing using her weapon as a medium.
The limb started to blue, before freezing over and starting to crack. Kamiko wanted to follow up on that when the other taur swung at her. Dashing backwards Kamiko looked at the frozen limb with some trepidation only to wince as she looked at her reserves. Fifteen percent. Another fifteen percent gone just to freeze ONE arm.
Kamiko started dancing away, attempting to keep her distance while ensuring they remained in eyesight. The third was still missing but hopefully it would run or she would see it approach.
*I don't have the energy to take these things down… well maybe if I got their brain or heart but I don't have a lot of confidence I could get to either. These things are damned sturdy and I'm not used to my newfound strength. Perhaps if I had more practice I could strike at one of its weak points but… I'm not quite fast enough. Those arms are tough and fast ENOUGH.
Honestly everything that they are is just a lot more then I assumed. Hmm… unless I can scare them off?*
Kamiko nodded to herself. She'd taken down a DRAKE. Some useless cows that couldn't even damage her bones was well within her capabilities. Kamiko activated the second blade on her naginata and dashed forward. The taurs seemed a touch started but Kamiko didn't stop. She dashed up and towards the first.
Hoping to, and succeeding in, slicing right through it's frozen arm bone and all. Kamiko then shoved her naginata into the other one and froze it just as well.
The dip in energy was a lot but Kamiko simply pulled herself around with the naginata as a lever, cracking the arm on her way and flying into the second taur to repeat the process. It tried to find her off with both arms at the same time but Kamiko decided to risk a bit of injury and accepting the second hit on her arm.
Kamiko ignored the pain of the impact as she injected more demonic energy into both of them before jumping back. Stay tuned with empire
The taurs yelled at her, but she grit her teeth and remained standing… only to see them turn around and run away, arms shattering as they picked up speed. *HA! Take that you damned cows! Now I just have to hope my arm isn't broken. I was a bit too worried about avoiding them before but maybe that was a touch gung-ho.*
