Devil's Luck Pirates

Chapter 30: Grand Prize

Pearl adjusts the hood on her head as the Bun Man bids her farewell. Her recent conversation with Bullet keeps the gears on her head running like never before.

She accepted her status as a monster with pride after what happened back at the underground village. So trying to change this conception of herself will not be easy.

Stepping out of the Bun Shop, she sees Duros waving at her in the distance. The rest of the crew is with him; gathered around in a circle as if discussing something.

-What did I miss? – She asks while coming up to Duros.

-Ragnar managed to get pretty far, as you can see. – Duros says, sharing some laughter with her crewmate.

-Hey, Pearl. – William says as she and Duros join in – Did you get what you were looking for?

-More or less… – She answers.

William nods and returns his attention to the Devil Fruit in his hand. He lifts it to his eyes, examining it closer. With the alternating red and blue squares, the two cherries have a strong resemblance to a roulette wheel.

-It's funny how about a month ago, I considered these things to be just myths… – William comments.

-Honestly, yall are some lucky bastards to be able to find two of these things so easily. – Atom says as he lights up a cigarette – So, who's gonna eat it?

-Before we decide who gets the fruit, – Verona steps in. William practically had it in his mouth already, but he stops to listen to his navigator – Without getting into details, there's someone that I need to kill; and the more I continue on this journey and see what we'll be up against, I'm beginning to realize that… I'm simply not strong enough.

Verona takes out his goggles. His bright, green eyes are locked to the floor in front of him – Something like this Devil Fruit can greatly increase my chances of achieving this goal. – His eyes then look up to meet the sight of his friends standing around him – But I've also come to the realization that; with strong friends, even if I'm not strong enough myself, we can take him down together in doe time.

His eyes now shine with determination. A determination that is now shared between everyone around him.

-So, if one of you wants to eat the fruit, I fully support it. – He finishes, putting his goggles back on.

A single tear runs through Duros' cheek. For someone to deposit all their hopes and dreams into their friends is such a noble thing to do. And he now respects Verona for doing that even more now.

-I'm with you a hundred percent, Verona. – William says, relieved with the fact that Verona didn't want the fruit – But I have to say; I have a crew with a dragon that can breathe fire, and a bear… and I just got a gun and a sword, so...

The crew shares a small chuckle, understanding what William is trying to imply.

-To be fair, you were the one who won it. – Pearl pipes up.

The entire crew nods in agreement.

So, it's decided then. William is the one who will eat the Devil Fruit… Does he have to eat the two cherries, or only one is enough? Screw it. William eats the two cherries at the same time just to be sure.

It seems that Ragnar wasn't lying when he said that these things taste like shit. After a couple of seconds, he swallows the fruit and looks up.

-So…? What did you get? – Pearl asks.

William puts a hand on his head. His eyes are wide open as he tries to process the information that just popped into his head.

-Are you ok, Captain? – Duros asks concerned.

-I'm fine… Hehe, looks like I just hit the jackpot. – William says with a cheeky grin on his face. He can barely contain his excitement over this new power.

The Rure Rure no Mi, also known as the Roulette Roulette Fruit. It gives its user the ability to manifest a spinning wheel, which can be spun twice a day to gain the powers of a random Devil Fruit for a specific amount of time.

It looks like Lady Luck will be looking over his shoulder from now on.
