Devil's Luck Pirates

Chapter 35: Something to Tell

The Steam Pipe pirates didn't leave much behind. It appears that they were pretending to move out of the place after the upcoming raid on the Tarako Kingdom. The crew comes out with little more than extra ammunition, a few Bellys, and Volt's mechanical arm. If any of them loses an arm, it could come in handy.

After stepping out, they are welcomed with a table full of tasty-looking food. Salads, fruits, and even some roasted meat.

-Welcome back, friends. How did it go? – Gravy says upon seeing them with his usual jolliness.

They promptly sit down and start eating while telling Gravy the whole experience. The moon was high in the sky, casting its silver light over the desert of Krendor.

-I never thought a simple salad could taste so good! – William comments after gulping down his last spoonful – Gravy, you are now promoted to Almost Official Member of the Emanon Pirates.

-Didn't you say you were working on a new name? – Pearl inquires while munching on some pork chops.

-Yeah, and what about our Jolly Roger? – Verona says after wiping his mask with a handkerchief.

-I found some black cloth we can use. We just need to find a guy who knows how to draw – William responds before taking a big gulp of ale – And Pearl, what is wrong with the name we have?! Many pirate crews go by the name of their captain, you know…

-Only because they have zero personality whatsoever. – She retorts with a smug grin – Although you guys' problem is having a captain with nothing interesting to show off – She adds with laughter.

-What about the Bear Pirates? – Ragnar comments before William could come up with a witty response – Our ship has the face of a bear, I'm a bear…

-You're narrowing it a bit too much, buddy. – William says.

-Yall wanna know what I think? – Atom asks from the corner of the table as Gravy serves his third bowl of salad.

-No. – The crew says in unison with a serious tone. Atom simply shrugs, mildly annoyed, and devours his salad.

Amidst all the carefree conversation, one person's voice wasn't heard since they got out of the cave. Apart from Gravy, as always; he's only there to cook.

Duros barely touched his salad. His eyes fixed on the sand illuminated by the moonlight in a beautiful composition. He barely heard Pearl calling his name.

-Duros, are you alright? You look like you're up on the clouds since we left the cave. – She says.

-O-oh… yes. – He turns to see the rest of the crew staring at him with concern – I… I have something to tell you guys.

His voice is low and somewhat melancholic. He shakes his head to dispel the pathetic look on his face and adopts a sterner expression.

-I apologize for not telling my whole story before. I just didn't want to bother you with my failures from the past. But since we are inbound to the Tarako Kingdom, there is no point in hiding this anymore.

Duros looks Pearl straight in the eyes. This has more to do with her than the rest of them.

-I used to be the personal guard of Prince Jasper of the Tarako Kingdom.
