Douluo Dalu: The Abandoned Child

Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Life or Death Situation

The battle with the Mutated Spider Emperor had reached its climax. Its piercing screeches reverberated through the forest, an ominous sound that sent shivers even down my spine. The air was thick with venomous mist, the ground slick with the fluids of countless slaughtered spiders. Yet, the swarm showed no signs of stopping.

I was drenched in sweat, my muscles burning as I kept my Eight Spider Lances engaged, the sharp appendages from my back skewering any spider that dared get too close. They were my shield, my second line of defense after Granpa, and without them, I would have been overwhelmed long ago. Still, the relentless ambushes left little room for error. I had to keep moving, dodging, striking, constantly on the edge of survival.

Grandpa was holding back most of the swarm, his poisonous mist covering the battlefield like a deathly veil. His Titled Douluo aura made the smaller spiders disintegrate with every attack, but even he couldn't kill them faster than they were summoned.

"Bei!" he shouted over the din. "Focus on the Emperor! I'll handle these pests!"

I nodded, gritting my teeth as I activated my fourth spirit ability, Spider Dash. My speed doubled in an instant, allowing me to weave through the horde like a shadow. The Spider Emperor's glowing red eyes fixed on me, its massive body shifting as it prepared for a devastating strike. Its legs, as thick as tree trunks, slammed into the ground, sending shockwaves that disrupted my momentum. I barely managed to dodge, tumbling to the side and countering with my first ability, Venom Thread Bind.

Green threads shot out from the tips of my lances, wrapping around one of its legs. The poison hissed as it began corroding the exoskeleton, but the Emperor was far too powerful to be slowed by such a tactic. With a violent jerk, it snapped the threads and lunged at me with its fangs bared. I activated Arachnid Shell just in time, the defensive ability absorbing the brunt of the attack but sending me skidding across the ground.

"You little fucker!" I spat, forcing myself to my feet. My body ached, but there was no time to rest. The Spider Emperor roared, summoning another wave of spiders that swarmed toward me.

The Eight Spider Lances moved instinctively, slashing and stabbing at the incoming threat. Each lance acted independently, an extension of my will that kept me alive in this chaos. Despite the pain and exhaustion, I pressed forward, my focus solely on the Emperor.

"You can do this, Bei!" Grandpa's voice rang out, a beacon of support in the storm of battle. But even his confidence couldn't erase the doubt creeping into my mind. This wasn't a battle I could win easily. For the first time since reincarnating into this world, I felt the cold grip of death looming over me.

The Spider Emperor struck again, this time with its venom-coated webbing. The strands shot toward me like projectiles, faster than I could react. One struck my shoulder, pinning me to a tree, while another wrapped around my leg. I struggled against the bindings, but the corrosive venom burned through my clothes reaching my skin, sapping my strength.

"No!" Grandpa roared, his aura surging as he unleashed a massive attack to clear the spiders surrounding him. He dashed toward me, but the Emperor stepped between us, blocking his path.

For a moment, I thought it was over. My vision blurred, my body refusing to move as the Spider Emperor loomed over me. Its mandibles clicked menacingly, dripping venom as it prepared for the killing blow.

Then, a surge of energy coursed through me. My hand closed around the hilt of the Dragon Slaying Saber, its aura igniting like a beacon of hope. With a roar, I activated Spider Dash again, breaking free of the webbing and leaping into the air. The Saber gleamed with a crimson light as I slashed downward, aiming for the Emperor's head.

The blade connected, carving a deep gash into the Emperor's exoskeleton. It screeched in pain, thrashing violently as black ichor spilled from the wound. I didn't stop. I couldn't. With the Eight Spider Lances tearing into its body and the Dragon Slaying Saber striking blow after blow, I pushed myself beyond my limits.

But the Emperor wasn't done yet. With a final, desperate attack, it released a burst of poisonous energy that knocked me back. My body hit the ground hard, the Saber slipping from my grasp. I couldn't move. My vision darkened as the Spider Emperor loomed over me once more, its mandibles raised for the final strike.

"No!" Grandpa's voice echoed again, filled with panic. He unleashed a wave of poisonous mist that temporarily blinded the Emperor, giving me a moment to recover.

Summoning every ounce of strength I had left, I grasped the Saber again. This was it, a life or death moment. I activated Camouflage, disappearing from sight as I circled around the Emperor. With a final roar, I drove the Saber into its head, channeling all my remaining soul power into the strike.

The Spider Emperor let out a deafening screech as its body convulsed. Black ichor poured from the wound as its massive form began to collapse. As its life faded, so did the summoned spiders. One by one, they vanished, their bodies disintegrating into nothingness.

When the dust settled, I was barely standing. My vision swam, my body trembling from exhaustion and pain. The corpse of the Spider Emperor lay before me, its once-mighty form now lifeless. Above it, a black soul ring shimmered, the ultimate prize for this harrowing battle.

I let out a shaky breath, a mix of relief and triumph washing over me. I had survived. But more than that, I had won.

"Grandpa," I murmured, turning to see him rushing toward me, his expression a mix of pride and worry. I gave him a weak smile before collapsing to my knees, the world fading into darkness as the adrenaline finally wore off.
