Chapter 35: The Second Spirit Ring - Purple-Eyed Devil Tiger

Seeing his son make a firm decision, Yang Zhentian finally breathed a sigh of relief. His son's second spirit ring had been settled at last.

"Son, stay here and be cautious. This Purple-Eyed Devil Tiger is incredibly dangerous. I'll handle it," Zhentian said, summoning his Breaking Soul Spear into his hand as his seven spirit rings appeared and quickly surged toward the tiger, stabbing forward with fierce precision.

But his strike missed as the Purple-Eyed Devil Tiger vanished, reappearing dozens of meters away. With a deafening roar, it charged at Yang Zhentian, flashing forward to instantly appear beside him and strike with a powerful swipe of its massive claw.

Zhentian raised his spear to block but was forced half a step back by the impact. The tiger's combat strength was indeed terrifying. Yang Zhentian was a high-level Soul Sage, capable of easily dispatching even ten-thousand-year spirit beasts, yet this beast, under a thousand years, had managed to resist his attack.

Irritated, Zhentian refused to let the tiger outmaneuver him again. He swiftly lunged forward with his spear, and the tiger, sensing danger, roared and braced itself with all its strength. But Zhentian's spear cut deep, leaving a large wound on its back and causing blood to flow profusely.

He didn't wait for the Purple-Eyed Devil Tiger to teleport again. Just as it tried to disappear, Zhentian hurled his spear like a javelin, piercing the tiger's body and pinning it to the ground.

The tiger lay motionless, pinned to the earth and bleeding heavily, barely clinging to life.

"Son, it's done. Come here and finish it off yourself," Zhentian said, signaling for Yang Potian to complete the kill. Potian quickly approached, summoned his Breaking Soul Spear, and drove it into the tiger's eye. The Purple-Eyed Devil Tiger went limp, a yellow spirit ring forming over its corpse.

Zhentian looked at his son with some concern. "Son, are you sure? This ring is close to a thousand years old—well above the typical absorption limit for most soul masters."

"Dad, trust me. You know my body's strength. I should be able to handle it," Potian reassured him.

With a mix of pride and concern, Zhentian watched as his son sat beside the tiger's body and began to absorb the ring.

The process was excruciating, just as it had been with his first spirit ring. Potian felt as though his body was engulfed in flames as the intense energy flooded every cell. But he gritted his teeth and silently endured, refusing to let the pain overcome him.

Three hours later, Potian finally completed the absorption. He felt an overwhelming sense of vitality and strength, and his spear now bore two yellow spirit rings. In his mind's eye, he could see a powerful giant gripping a Breaking Soul Spear, two spirit rings illuminating the spear as the giant grew even stronger.

Potian summoned his Breaking Soul Spear, feeling its increased weight—it now exceeded 300 pounds. His physical strength had also grown significantly, allowing him to wield the spear with ease. His thoughts drifted to Tang San's Clear Sky Hammer. During the Soul Master Tournament, Tang San's hammer, even without spirit rings, had weighed over 500 pounds, earning it a reputation as one of the heaviest weapons.

Seeing his son successfully absorb the ring, Zhentian couldn't contain his excitement. "How is it, son? What skill did this ring grant you?"

"Dad, this skill is incredible! Let me show you." Potian activated his second ring, lifting his spear and thrusting forward. Suddenly, he appeared twenty meters ahead, his spear piercing straight through a massive tree.

Zhentian was impressed. "Amazing! So what exactly does this skill do?"

"It's called 'Devil Tiger Annihilation Strike.' I can teleport next to my target and launch an attack. When I use it, both the weight and attack power of my spear increase by 50%, though it consumes about 10% of my spirit power each time. The distance is currently capped at 30 meters, and while it's affected by my spirit power, the range shouldn't increase too drastically."

Zhentian's face lit up with pride. "Son, that's an exceptional ability. I'd wager it rivals the skills of many with thousand-year spirit rings. It's immensely practical!"

"Dad, I'm now at rank 22," Potian added.

"Truly impressive. You're everything I could hope for in a son," Zhentian replied, beaming.

Potian then asked a question that had been on his mind. "Dad, how did you know where the Purple-Eyed Devil Tiger would reappear after it teleported?"

Zhentian laughed knowingly. "Afraid someone will see through your skill, aren't you?"

He continued, "Don't worry, son. It'll be quite some time before you encounter an enemy of that caliber. Remember this: any teleportation skill creates a spirit power ripple during the process—one that's only detectable by those with extremely high spirit power and strong mental strength. Most soul masters can't sense it until they reach the Soul Sage level."

"A Soul Sage's mental strength undergoes a fundamental change, but until then, you have nothing to worry about. As you grow stronger and master your spirit power, you'll reduce this ripple even further, making it almost undetectable. That's why teleportation skills are often considered divine—they're difficult to counter and cost little energy."

After a brief discussion, the two prepared to leave. They thoroughly examined the tiger's body but found no spirit bone, leaving Potian feeling a bit disappointed. "It's just my luck. Tang San got an Eight Spider Lance for surpassing his limit, but I've had two chances now and haven't received anything."
