Chapter 37: Finally Found It

At this point, Yang Potian looked serious. "Dad, I know this might sound unbelievable, but I truly feel a strong pull here in Sunset Forest. I've suspected all along that the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well is hidden within this forest. And, based on clues from ancient texts, I'm even more certain of it."

"You need to trust my instincts and reasoning. I believe there's an incredibly valuable treasure hidden in Sunset Forest," he added, feeling it necessary to share his thoughts about the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. After all, his father could be trusted completely.

Yang Zhentian's face grew grave. "Have you considered what the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well might really be? True, there are mentions of it in the ancient texts, but the conditions for it to form are almost impossible."

"Then why would it even be mentioned in those texts?" Potian countered. "Don't forget, Douluo Continent is full of wonders. For instance, the Lake of Life at the heart of Star Dou Great Forest—it's regarded as a miracle of life."

"Alright, you win, son," Zhentian relented with a chuckle. "But have you thought about how you'll even find the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well?"

Potian answered thoughtfully, "If no one on the continent has heard of it, then it must be in a place that's very well hidden. And don't forget, given its properties, the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well would likely be in a highly toxic area—somewhere protected by natural poison mists."

Hearing this, Zhentian paused and then, unexpectedly, pulled out a map of Sunset Forest from his storage device.

Potian blinked in surprise. "You had a map of Sunset Forest all along? We would have been much safer if you'd shown me this earlier!"

Zhentian's tone turned instructional. "Son, Sunset Forest has been explored by many before us, so having a map isn't unusual. However, spirit beasts roam freely, rarely sticking to one place, so you can only use the map as a rough guide."

"You need to remember this," he continued. "In any spirit beast forest, a map can only serve as a general reference. It's dangerous to assume any part of the forest is safe or that certain beasts reside in specific areas. The most frightening thing about these forests is the unpredictability of attacks."

Yang Potian recalled their experiences in the forest, where spirit beasts often struck without warning. Even the Titan Python they encountered wasn't something a map could indicate—otherwise, it would've been targeted by the major sects. Similarly, the Purple-Eyed Demon Tiger had also appeared out of nowhere. He nodded in understanding.

"Got it, Dad. I'll be even more cautious in spirit beast forests from now on."

The two then studied the map together. It provided only basic information, highlighting mountains, rivers, and general landscapes, with no specific details about powerful spirit beasts. Potian scoffed internally; no wonder his dad hadn't mentioned the map before. Following it would likely have led them into even more danger.

Zhentian studied the map more closely, pointing things out. "Look here. These spots I've marked are areas we've already explored. There's no need to revisit the outer edges of the forest. If the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well is anywhere, it'll be in the more remote, unmarked regions."

Potian looked at the map with mild frustration. "This thing is so blurry it's almost dizzying. What were you using to mark it?"

Zhentian smiled. "Another lesson, son: in a spirit beast forest, your only true guide is the sun overhead. No matter which direction you travel, keep track of the distance covered. This helps you create a rough mental map. Otherwise, you're sure to get lost."

"For example, from the swamp we visited earlier to our current location, we've traveled about 3.5 kilometers southeast at a 40-degree angle. Based on our recent path, I'd estimate we're here on the map, give or take three kilometers," he said, pointing to a specific area on the map.

Potian stifled a sigh, wondering if he had missed out on a whole education—his father was schooling him on something as basic as navigation, and here he was, a former college graduate, feeling like a novice.

Zhentian gave him a wry smile. "You're still young, Potian. You have a lot to learn. Take your time."

Potian rolled his eyes, inwardly amused as his father seemed to bask in his own expertise.

The two continued searching the forest, encountering many poisonous spirit beasts along the way. At one point, a forty-thousand-year-old Man-Faced Demon Spider chased them for a while, leaving them disoriented and barely able to catch their breath. When they finally stopped, they realized they had reached an unfamiliar area.

Potian glanced around. "Dad, does anything seem strange about this place to you?"

"Potian, don't jinx it! One more high-level spirit beast encounter, and we'll really be in trouble," Zhentian grumbled.

Potian shrugged. "It feels like we're both getting jumpy."

"Dad, focus on the surroundings for a second. Do you notice anything odd?"

Zhentian activated his spirit power, scanning the area. He quickly realized his range was strangely limited, as if something in the air was interfering with it. And the atmosphere felt thick, almost unnatural.

Zhentian sniffed the air and picked up a faint scent. "Potian, this area definitely isn't normal. It's very secluded. Judging by the growth of the plants, no one's been here in ages. The landscape also suggests there might be a dormant volcano nearby."

He paused. "And there's something in the air I haven't encountered before. If we stay too long, I think it could harm us."

"Dad, can you tell what kind of poison it is?" Potian asked, intrigued.

Zhentian examined their surroundings. "It's strange—this poison has both an icy and fiery nature. I don't understand how those two attributes could coexist."

Potian's heart leaped with excitement. "Dad, don't forget the real reason we're here!"

Realization dawned on Zhentian, and he swallowed hard. "You're saying… that the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well is nearby?"

"Exactly! What other spirit beast could generate a poison with both ice and fire attributes? I'm certain our goal is close."
