Chapter 9: The Hunt
"Did I do bad? I unleashed that aura again," said Yamoshi, tightening his grip, worry etched across his face.
"Yamoshi, I think you're misunderstanding something," Toren said, gazing into the distance. "We Saiyans are proud of our strength. It's not the aura you emit that's the issue—it's the sheer power it holds. Extraordinary for someone your age."
"So... I need to control it?" Yamoshi asked, his eyes wide with a mix of worry and determination.
"That's the idea," Toren replied, puzzled at how quickly the boy grasped the concept.
"I guess I just have to train it..." Yamoshi muttered, his tone low and reluctant.
"Exactly. But it's not just the aura. You'll learn much more. Remember, our strength comes from our body, our discipline, and our will," Toren explained. "I will guide you alongside Drazik."
"Drazik?" Yamoshi tilted his head.
"Your instructor from now on," Toren said with a sigh. "He's tough—brutally so—but that's why he's the perfect teacher for you."
"Oh, that guy," Yamoshi said, recalling the fearsome figure. "He was scary... but I think he can help me use my power."
"That's right," Toren affirmed. "I'm not the best teacher for these early stages. But once you learn the basics from him, I'll show you a few tricks of my own."
"Really?! I can't wait!" Yamoshi exclaimed, his face lighting up as he jumped into the air with excitement.
Near the Outpost
"Is that Toren?" asked Korrath, a sturdy Saiyan with a rough scar running down his arm. He squinted into the distance. "And… Yamoshi?!"
"He really convinced Ragorn, huh?" Varix, a lean and agile warrior with piercing eyes, added with a mix of shock and amusement.
"Yo, guys," Toren called out, walking up to them with Yamoshi clinging to his arm like a little monkey. "Yamoshi is with us today."
"So he got accepted. But… why'd you bring him here?" Korrath asked, raising his hand to greet Yamoshi with a casual wave.
"To teach him a lesson," Toren said in a cold and serious tone.
"...Don't tell me you're doing what I think you're doing," Korrath muttered, his face falling in disbelief.
After a While
"AHHHHHHH! FATHER, YOU'RE INSANE!" Yamoshi screamed, running for his life as a colossal three-headed anaconda chased him through the rocky terrain.
"This is TOO MUCH! I'm telling Mom about this!" he yelled, his golden aura flaring involuntarily as he dodged the snapping jaws of the snake.
Fwooooom!
A blast of energy surged through the air, striking one of the snake's heads and grabbing its attention. Toren leapt into view, his energy blazing.
"AHHHHH!" Toren roared as he unleashed a fearsome burst of power, his aura scattering rocks and debris. With a single devastating punch, he obliterated one of the snake's heads.
"In… insane," Yamoshi whispered from afar, watching his father fight the monstrous beast with awe and terror.
"Grab its tail!" Toren ordered.
Korrath and Varix charged in, gripping the snake's massive tail and anchoring it to the ground.
"Yamoshi, keep running!" Toren barked.
The snake hissed, spitting a spray of venomous acid. Toren dodged, blasting three bright energy orbs into the air to blind the creature temporarily.
With a mighty leap, Korrath drove his shoulder into the snake's midsection, while Varix landed a flurry of quick strikes on its side. The beast lashed out in fury, swinging its tail and sending Korrath hurtling into the air.
"OH NO, YOU DON'T!" Toren shouted, firing a rapid volley of energy blasts into the snake's open mouth, forcing it to close its jaws just before Korrath hit the ground nearby.
Varix darted forward, leaping onto the snake's back and slashing at its scales. "Heh, you're not so tough!" he taunted, dodging the creature's snapping fangs.
Meanwhile, Toren planted his feet, his aura intensifying as he charged a powerful ki beam.
"Varix, pull back!" Korrath shouted, leaping to distract the snake.
Varix smirked and vaulted off the beast's back, landing safely behind Toren.
"You're done now," Toren growled, his energy reaching its peak. "HAAAAHHHH!"
A colossal beam of energy erupted from Toren's hands, tearing through the snake and reducing it to nothing but ash and scattered scales.
Yamoshi stood frozen, staring at the devastation.
"That… was… amazing," he whispered, his heart pounding in awe of his father's power.
Korrath clapped Toren on the back. "That was overkill."
Varix chuckled. "I'd call it a good warm-up."
Toren turned to Yamoshi, his expression stern. "Lesson one, son: power isn't just about strength—it's about control. And today, you've seen what that means."
Yamoshi nodded, gripping his fists. One day, I'll stand alongside them. Strong, fearless… and ready to protect.
"This was just training," Toren said, regaining his breath and dusting himself off.
"I think I should've fallen back sooner, instead of waiting for Toren to shout and lose focus," Varix muttered, scratching his head in embarrassment.
"Yeah, and I should've kept that snake pinned down better," Korrath admitted with a shrug.
"For the handicap we had, I think we did well enough," Toren said, his tone calm and reflective.
"Wait, wait, what do you mean?" Yamoshi exclaimed, stepping in front of Toren with wide eyes. "I was running for my life while you guys HANDICAPPED yourselves and called this training? Oh, Father, just wait until I tell Mother!" His face twisted into a fierce pout, his tail twitching with indignation.
"HAHAHAHA!" Korrath burst into laughter. "Toren, you're so done for."
"You weren't in any real danger, not with Toren around," Varix reassured Yamoshi, smirking.
"Uhhh… let's just let this one slide, Yamoshi," Toren said, rubbing the back of his neck with a nervous smile.
"Not until you tell me what this 'handicap' was," Yamoshi shot back, glaring at his father with suspicion.
Toren sighed, then effortlessly lifted off the ground, floating in the air without breaking a sweat. "This."
Yamoshi blinked once, then twice, before his knees wobbled.
He fainted on the spot.
"Well, that's one way to get him to calm down," Varix said with a chuckle.
"Poor kid," Korrath said, shaking his head with an amused grin. "He's got a long road ahead of him."
"Yeah," Toren muttered, looking down at Yamoshi with a mix of guilt and pride. "But he's a Saiyan. He'll be just fine."
