Chapter 8: Chapter 8
Returning to the party, the atmosphere was a stark contrast to the intimate conversation Mira just had. Colored lights twinkled over the heads of the attendees, reflecting off glasses and bottles, while the beat of the music filled the air. The dance floor was crowded with guests swaying to the music, some with energetic, uninhibited steps, others just letting themselves be carried away by the atmosphere.
The bustle was constant: laughter, animated conversations and a few toasts echoed through the crowd. All around, small groups could be seen in amusing chats, others engaged in heated debates or in moments of camaraderie; everyone seemed to be enjoying the moment without worries. To one side, some acquaintances shared anecdotes, and every now and then, a burst of laughter would rise up, adding to the merriment.
Everything seemed to be going well, however, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end at some point, and this party was no exception.
The party was still in full swing, music and laughter filled every corner of the place. The lights danced in sync with the vibrant rhythms, as attendees enjoyed the relaxed and festive atmosphere. However, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end at some point, and this celebration seemed to be no exception.
At a secluded table, Whis was sitting alone, tasting a pudding with an expression of total satisfaction. His face reflected pleasure in every bite, and he seemed completely oblivious to the chaos and noise around him. Meanwhile, Beerus, the God of Destruction, was arriving from a sushi stand. He had already satiated his craving for something salty, but he was feeling a craving for a good dessert.
He observed Whis enjoying the pudding and, without a second thought, walked over determinedly.
"Whis," said Beerus, in a firm voice, "would you give me some of that dessert? It looks very... interesting."
Whis looked up, as if he had barely noticed his presence, and with a serene smile gently denied. "I'm sorry, my lord. This pudding is truly exquisite and, being honest, I have no intention of sharing it."
Beerus' eyebrow rose in a mixture of surprise and irritation. "You have no intention of sharing it?" he repeated, crossing his arms and adopting a serious expression. "Do you know who you're denying dessert to, Whis?"
Whis merely smiled reassuringly, not changing his mind. "Perhaps you'll find something just as delicious elsewhere, my lord. There is a great variety at this feast."
Muttering through his teeth, Beerus walked away, still annoyed. He couldn't stand it when anyone dared to ignore his authority, least of all when it came to food. But he wasn't about to give up. Determined to find an equal or better dessert, he began to walk among the tables, scanning the surroundings with narrowed eyes.
It was then that he saw a strange figure, someone with a pinkish skin tone and a big belly, who was eating with an overflowing enthusiasm. The being was surrounded by desserts of all kinds, devouring them at an impressive pace. Beerus did not immediately recognize Majin Buu, however, for it had been so long since he had heard of him that he did not remember him. The version he knew of Majin Buu was much leaner and more energetic.
He decided to approach to investigate, and, when he was a few steps away, he cleared his throat with an authoritative air.
"Excuse me," Beerus said, his tone firm and authoritative, "you seem to have enough desserts to share, wouldn't you mind giving me one?"
Majin Buu paused and looked at Beerus, with a quizzical expression. He had no idea who this feline-looking stranger was or why he seemed so sure of himself. At first, Buu just gave him a puzzled look, trying to understand why someone he didn't know was approaching him so brazenly.
"Would you like one?" asked Buu, in a playful voice. "Buu has many desserts, but... who are you? Why should I give you one?"
Beerus frowned, clearly irritated by the disrespect. He was not used to being questioned, much less by someone who was unaware of his authority. Nevertheless, he tried to remain calm. It was a party, after all.
"I am Beerus." he said, as if that name was enough to explain everything. "The God of Destruction."
Majin Buu looked at him with his head slightly tilted, as if assessing him. His face showed a mixture of curiosity and skepticism.
"God of Destruction..." repeated Buu slowly, not looking impressed at all. "I don't know you."
Beerus, surprised, let out a sarcastic laugh. The irritation was evident in his tone, and, hearing that Majin Buu didn't even know who he was, Beerus' patience wore thinner faster.
Majin Buu let out a silly laugh and went back to looking at his desserts. "Well, if I don't know you and you want dessert, you'll have to ask me nicely. Buu doesn't share with just anyone."
Beerus' patience was reaching its limit. He couldn't understand how such a seemingly simple being could dare speak to him like that. However, something in his tone and attitude was beginning to stir up old memories. Slowly, Beerus began to connect the dots and recall something he had heard long ago: a creature known for its incredible power and moments of uncontrolled violence, a being that had endangered the life of the Supreme Kai himself, and, by extension, his own.
Beerus looked at it more closely, and his expression changed from surprise to distaste. "Wait... you're Majin Buu, aren't you?"
Majin Buu, upon hearing his own name, smiled broadly, still not comprehending the gravity of the situation. "Yes! I am Majin Buu! And Buu loves desserts!"
Beerus felt fury bubbling up inside him. He couldn't believe he was facing the very creature that had almost indirectly cost him his life. The air around him became heavy, and his energy of destruction began to emanate, creating a tense and dangerous atmosphere. Nearby attendants began to notice the hostility emanating from Beerus and fell silent, watching the scene nervously.
"Your existence almost ended mine." Beerus said in a menacing voice, raising a finger towards Buu. "And to think that all this time you've been here... enjoying your desserts, as if nothing had happened."
Majin Buu, seeing the expression on Beerus' face, stopped smiling and began to back away. The usual joy in his eyes faded, realizing that he was in danger. At that moment, Mr. Satan, who had been observing the situation from a distance, ran towards them as he saw that his friend was in trouble.
"Hey, you weird cat! Leave him alone!" shouted Mr. Satan, putting himself between Beerus and Buu. "He's no threat to anyone. Buu is my friend!"
Beerus didn't answer and just glared at him, as if he were an annoying insect, and, without a word, raised his finger and, with a slight movement, threw Mr. Satan through the air, sending him flying to the other side of the party. Cries of surprise and concern spread among the attendees, who began to back away, fearing the start of a fight.
"Dad!" shouted Videl upon seeing that he had gone flying, causing her to immediately go to his aid.
Seeing his dear friend fly through the air like that, Buu became furious and charged at Beerus but he simply sent him flying into the park's pond with one finger.
Seeing Mr. Satan and Buu being thrown like that, Gohan, Yamcha, Krillin, Tenshinhan and Piccolo didn't hesitate to intervene. They jumped forward, lining up in a fighting stance in front of Beerus.
"What are you doing? On Earth we don't throw people through the air!" Gohan said angrily.
"We won't let you hurt anyone else!" Tenshinhan exclaimed, putting himself on guard.
"Be careful, there's something weird about his energy, though I don't know what it is..." Piccolo muttered, sensing Beerus' overwhelming aura. "But we can't just stand idly by."
Beerus surveyed the group with an expression of exasperation and annoyance.
"Do you seriously think you stand a chance against me? I am the God of Destruction. This is no simple combat."
However, the Z-warriors did not flinch. With a war cry, they rushed toward him together, combining their attacks in a coordinated effort. Krillin launched a Kienzan, Gohan transformed into Super Saiyan and attacked from the air, while Tenshinhan used his Kikoho technique, and Yamcha and Piccolo covered the flanks with energy blasts.
Beerus, with a bored expression, dodged the attacks with humiliating ease. He moved with an almost lazy grace, dodging and blocking each technique without even losing his composure.
Gohan, his face hardened in anger, charged at Beerus with a powerful punch, channeling all his energy into the blow. However, the god of destruction, unperturbed, raised a hand and parried the attack with an open palm, as if it was nothing more than a slight push.
"Your strength is remarkable." Beerus said in a calm but authoritative voice. "But it is not enough."
With a swift, almost nonchalant motion, Beerus threw Gohan backwards, sending him crashing into a table, which shattered from the impact. The young warrior gasped, dazed, as he tried to regain his feet.
Piccolo, the last one standing, stepped forward, maintaining his firm stance. His gaze reflected determination, though he knew Beerus' power was overwhelming.
"If you think we're going to back down, you're underestimating our will." The Namekian declared, adjusting his torn cloak as a slight gust of wind blew through the rubble.
Beerus arched an eyebrow, intrigued. A thin smile crept across his face.
"I like your spirit..." He replied with an almost amused tone, "but it won't change anything."
Before Piccolo could react, the god disappeared in a flash and appeared in front of him, ready to deliver the final blow. A destructive aura surrounded his hand, and the air seemed to tremble with his power.
At that instant, however, a familiar voice rang out firmly, cutting through the tension like lightning in a storm.
"Stop, Lord Beerus."
Beerus turned slowly, his gaze meeting a Vegeta fully transformed into Super Saiyan 2. His golden hair sizzled with bluish lightning, and his aura emitted a searing heat that vibrated the ground beneath his feet. But what was most striking was not his transformation, but his expression: a serious, determined look, a far cry from the terror he had shown moments before.
"No matter how all-powerful he is, I will not let him destroy the Earth." Vegeta said in a deep voice, his tone firm as an unbreakable promise.
"Vegeta! -" exclaimed Piccolo in surprise, as the rest of the Z Warriors, still badly wounded, looked up at the Saiyan prince. Their expressions were full of astonishment, as if they were seeing a completely new man.
"What are you idiots staring at?" growled Vegeta, not taking his eyes off Beerus. "Don't just stand there! Fight!"
Without waiting for a response, Vegeta raised both hands, quickly forming a Galick Ho that began to gather energy with blinding intensity. The purple aura of his attack contrasted with his golden transformation, creating a stunning visual spectacle. The other warriors, though exhausted, exchanged glances and nodded before gathering their last strength to join the fight.
Piccolo sketched a half-smile as he watched Vegeta.
'Vegeta really has changed...' he thought, remembering the proud and ruthless prince who once fought them to the death. 'Compared to when we faced Majin Buu, this Vegeta looks like another person entirely.'
Beerus, for his part, watched Vegeta with a glint of interest in his eyes.
"Hmph. So you've finally decided to show your true spirit, Prince of the Saiyans." He said with a slight smile. "Very well, show me if your words carry any weight."
Vegeta did not respond. With a roar that made the air vibrate, he launched his Galick Ho towards Beerus, while the others attacked in unison from different angles. The god of destruction raised both hands calmly, blocking Vegeta's attack and the combined attacks of the others.
The battle erupted in a chaos of energy flashes and explosions, as Vegeta led the attack with renewed intensity. Although they knew they could not defeat Beerus, none of them were willing to back down, and that, if only for an instant, seemed to get the god's attention.
(A few moments ago in another part of the party...).
Mira and 18 were still engaged in their conversation, in which they both unconsciously found themselves smiling, with now 18 asking her questions and him answering.
"Did you really do that?" 18 asked trying not to laugh, as Mira finished telling her about the time Whis made him change Beerus' sheets while he was sleeping as part of training and he almost ended up slammed against the wall.
"Yeah and after that on top of that when I went to tell Whis that I had already done it, he just laughed and said now you know how to dodge." To which 18 couldn't take it anymore and let out a laugh that quickly infected Mira, making them laugh in sync.
Once the laughter had passed and they were fully rejoined, a question came to 18's mind and as if automatically he said it.
"So tell me, where did you come from?" That question made Mira stop in his tracks, although he managed to keep his expression unchanged, he still managed not to look surprised and was about to answer by making something up.
However, before Mira could answer, the roar of an explosion shook the place. They both turned, alarmed, watching as a blast of energy shot across the room. In the distance, a tall, lanky figure lingered in the air as he easily engaged several of the Z fighters, who seemed at a total disadvantage.
"What's going on?" asked Android 18, frowning.
Mira instantly recognized that figure and his heart skipped a beat. "Oh, no... Beerus is furious." He muttered, with a mixture of respect and concern in his voice.
Android 18 looked at him in astonishment.
"Beerus? Is that that guy you told me about? The one who looks like a cat?"
Mira nodded. "Exactly. Beerus isn't someone just anyone can go up against. His powers are on a whole different level."
As they spoke, the picture was quickly becoming more complicated. Yamcha and Tenshinhan were already on the ground, unconscious, and Krillin and Piccolo were struggling desperately, to no avail, as Beerus was effortlessly evading the barrage of punches and kicks being thrown at him. Gohan, the only one who still seemed to be resisting, threw a Masenko directly towards Beerus, who deflected it with a simple wave of his hand.
'This is not good. It's all happening just like in the movie.' Mira thought, knowing that the situation could get out of control at any moment. The God of Destruction was in a bad mood, and that was not a good sign.
Android 18 looked at Mira seriously. "What do we do? Those idiots don't stand a chance against him."
Mira clenched his fists, aware of the danger. "I'll go talk to him, see if I can calm him down, you stay here."
But Android 18 interrupted him, determination in his eyes. "Don't even think about it. Krillin is in there, and I'm not going to stand idly by while that cat destroys everyone."
Mira shot him a warning look, but seeing 18's resolve, she nodded. "All right, let's go together then. Just be careful."
Back to the fight, Piccolo and Vegeta had finally fallen, Beerus had used some chopsticks and with only 2 hits had knocked them out. Only Gohan was left, who at that moment was looking around with a face of disbelief.
'It can't be!!! They all fell down? How strong is that guy?' He thought as he stared at Beerus, who in response simply gave him a half smile.
The tension in the air was suffocating. The night sky, illuminated by the lights of the party, seemed to grow darker with every word spoken by Beerus. The sphere of purple energy forming in his hand radiated a tangible threat, making everyone present feel the weight of impending destruction.
"The food spoiled, I no longer have an appetite, and the Super Saiyan God is not here. For your disrespect to the God of Destruction by harboring an enemy, you will all be destroyed," Beerus declared in an imposing tone, his voice booming like thunder in the sepulchral silence that now enveloped the party. His golden eyes glowed with a mixture of anger and disappointment, and his presence seemed to drain the energy from those around him.
The guests who were still conscious stared at him in terror, frozen in place. Some were on their knees, unable to stand before the intimidating aura of the God of Destruction.
"Oh no, what's he doing?" muttered Master Roshi, his eyes wide behind his sunglasses, which were now slightly tilted due to his trembling.
"Who is that?" asked Chi-Chi, clutching her dress as she looked around for answers that no one could give her.
"I'm so scared!" exclaimed Oolong, shaking from head to toe as he tried to slink toward the exit. However, he was quickly stopped by Puar, who stood in his way.
"You coward! Don't run away! No matter who you are, no one should be left behind!" Puar said with determination, though his own voice trembled slightly.
"Let go of me, Puar!" cried Oolong, struggling to free himself, but Puar's small figure remained steadfast.
Beerus, observing this chaotic scene, frowned even more. His ears perked up slightly as his tail twitched in irritation. The chaos and shouting only fueled his anger.
"Silence!" he roared, his voice echoing with pure rage. "You have angered me, and worst of all, you have sheltered an enemy of the God of Destruction here. Now, you will all be destroyed."
With those words, he raised his hand, and the sphere of purple energy began to glow even more brightly. The air was filled with an eerie vibration, as if the Earth itself knew it was about to be annihilated.
Gohan, who had been watching everything in a state of paralyzing shock, finally shook himself out of his stupor. His heart was pounding, and his mind was racing in all directions, searching for a way to stop Beerus.
"I...I can't allow this," he muttered to himself, as he clenched his fists. His expression hardened with fierce determination, and his eyes flashed with a mixture of bravery and desperation. He stepped forward, gathering his energy.
"I won't let you destroy Earth for anything in the world!" shouted Gohan, his voice firm despite the overwhelming pressure emanating from Beerus. He clasped his hands together and placed them on the side of his waist, beginning to charge his last attack.
"KA-ME...!" he exclaimed, as his energy began to concentrate in his hands.
Beerus, seeing this, cocked his head slightly to one side and let out a faint smile, as if Gohan's action was nothing more than a passing amusement to him.
"HA-ME...!", Gohan continued, his muscles tensing as he gathered more energy, feeling Beerus' defiant gaze locked on him.
Suddenly, a familiar shout cut through the air.
"Wait!" exclaimed Mira, rushing towards the scene with a gesture of desperation. His breathing was ragged, and a bead of sweat ran down his forehead as he tried to remain calm in the presence of the God of Destruction.
Gohan and Beerus stopped their actions momentarily and glanced toward Mira, who alternated his gaze between the two, looking for any indication that he could avoid the confrontation.
Mira flew towards Beerus cautiously, feeling the weight of the moment as he approached the God. Beside him, 18 paused, assessing the chaos around them. From her position, she could see someone on the ground, motionless. Her eyes widened as he recognized the figure.
"No, Krillin!" She exclaimed in an alarmed tone, before quickly flying towards him. Her concern was evident as she checked on her husband, who lay unconscious on the ground.
Meanwhile, Mira stood in front of Beerus, his legs trembling slightly, but his eyes fixed on the god.
[MIRA POV]
"Lord Beerus, please... wait," I began, trying to keep my voice steady. "Do not destroy the Earth."
Beerus arched an eyebrow, clearly irritated by the interruption.
"Why not, you saw what they did," he replied coolly, his gaze piercing me like a blade.
"They hid Majin Buu here, a very dangerous individual who nearly took Supreme Kai's life and mine. Why don't you want me to destroy this wretched planet?".
Beerus' words echoed in my ears like thunder. At that moment, I felt my mere role as a mere spectator of this world vanish. I had crossed an invisible line. Now, I was part of history, and my next move would define its place in it.
"Because... because...", I stammered , desperately searching for something that could stop the God's fury. My mind was working at full speed, and finally, an idea crossed its mind.
"Think it through, master. If you destroy the Earth, you won't be able to taste your food ever again. And you said yourself that you liked it very much, didn't you!", I exclaimed, with a mixture of hope and nervousness in my voice.
Beerus paused for a moment, lowering his hand slightly. His eyes narrowed as he seemed to consider my words.
"It's true, your food is delicious...", he muttered, almost to himself. But then, his expression hardened again. "However, the crime they committed is more serious than any food in the Universe, no matter how delicious it is."
I swallowed hard, feeling my throat go dry as the weight of the situation crushed me.
Beerus' aura was still overwhelming, and every second that passed without him doing something seemed to lengthen the agony for everyone present. My mind was racing like mad, desperately searching for something else to say to stave off the inevitable.
'Damn, I'll have to reveal some of my knowledge about this universe to convince him. I just hope he doesn't notice.' I thought, feeling cold sweat break out on my forehead. I searched through the memories of my past life, digging frantically, as if they were pieces of a puzzle I was barely managing to assemble. And then, like a spark in the darkness, something occurred to me.
"But think it through, Lord Beerus," I said, trying to sound calm though my voice trembled slightly. "Maybe they didn't know who Majin Buu was and had no idea of all the atrocities he committed. Besides, don't you find it strange that Majin Buu hasn't destroyed this world? Wouldn't it perhaps be a sign that he has changed? I mean, I'm sure that if it were the old Majin Buu, without a doubt, the Earth would no longer exist long ago."
As I finished speaking, I felt my heart racing. Internally, I was praying with all my might to whatever entity could hear me. 'Please, give in, please...'.
Beerus stared at me with a serious expression. His golden eyes were two deep wells, impossible to read, but filled with a power that could erase everything around him with just a thought. The wait took forever; every second felt like a hammer hitting my chest. For a few moments, I was sure that it had been for nothing, that this was the end of the Earth... and also mine.
Until...
"Look, as my apprentice you are completely out of line," Beerus roared in a reprimanding tone that made me duck my head immediately, like a scolded child. My heart sank as my mind was already beginning to plan my next attempt to save the planet. But then, unexpectedly, he continued:
"But you're right." Beerus said.
My eyes widened as I raised my head in disbelief. For a moment, I thought I had heard wrong.
"I didn't tell you before, but I'm pretty ancient. In fact, for that reason I know Majin Buu and I know exactly what he's capable of. And you're right in assuming that, if we were talking about that same monster, this planet would no longer exist... probably not the rest of this solar system either," Beerus said in a calm but firm tone.
I nodded slowly as I tried to keep my composure, even though inside I wanted to drop to the floor in relief. 'Thank you, thank you, thank you...', I repeated in my mind like a mantra.
"What I mean is, despite your disrespect in questioning me as my student, you are correct," Beerus added.
I couldn't help but let out a slight sigh of relief, although my body was still tense, ready for anything. However, my relief was short-lived.
"However...", Beerus suddenly said, and my whole body went on alert again. My breathing stopped for an instant.
"That one over there!" he exclaimed, pointing towards the nearby lake with one hand. His voice had a dangerous edge to it.
I followed the direction of his gaze, and my heart skipped a beat as I saw a pink blob emerge from the water. The chubby, distinctive figure of Majin Buu became clearer and clearer as it slowly advanced toward the shore.
"He's still Majin Buu! And even if he's had some sort of change, that doesn't erase the grave crime he committed against me. "Beerus said, his tone laden with indignation.
I watched as the sphere of purple energy in his hand began to grow again, pulsing with terrifying intensity. I could feel the heat it emitted even from where I stood, and my mind worked at full speed to devise a new way to calm it. But before I could even open my mouth, a powerful voice echoed from the sky, cutting through the air like a sword.
"Lord Beerus, wait!" Someone exclaimed from above.
I recognized that voice immediately. It was as familiar as my own breath, and just like me, all the consciente spectators looked up instantly.
"Dad!" cried Gohan, with a mixture of relief and excitement in his voice as he saw that his father had finally arrived.
