Genshin Impact: I'm The Envoy of Snezhnaya

Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Night Talk

Small Lamp Grass is a unique plant found only in Mondstadt, whose flowers emit a faint glow at night.

When cooked with other ingredients, it enhances the flavor of the dish. However, very few people use it for cooking; most treat it as a decorative item, hanging it on balconies or desks.

Interestingly, many travelers may not know that a certain Pyro claymore-wielding character uses this plant as an ascension material. If someone knows, they're either a true fan or... it's part of a sad story.

You lost your soft pity.

Tonight, Lisa wore her formal outfit.

In her room were not only her good friend Jean but also two fiery and icy figures from the forest.

Lisa hadn't initially wanted them to come, but Diluc, having dealt with the Ausbilder before, felt he was more suited for negotiations. So, with a face that said, "I'm definitely not doing this on purpose," he arrived at Lisa's house with Jean.

As for Kaeya... well, someone had to be the cryo support, right?

A healer, a Pyro DPS, a debuff support, and a cryo enabler—this team should be able to take down a Fatui Harbinger... maybe.

"The time's almost up," Lisa said, checking her pocket watch.

The appointed time to meet with the Ausbilder was drawing near, and she doubted he'd miss the appointment.

Everyone, including Diluc, who had been quietly resting, focused their attention on the door.

The ticking of the watch was conspicuously loud in the tense, quiet room. Then...

Crash—

A unique-looking dagger shattered the Small Lamp Grass Lisa had moved to the windowsill from the balcony.

With the sound of retracting wires, Bai Luo entered through the window, holding Collei in one arm.

He arrived almost exactly on time. The pale mask on his face looked eerie under the light.

Lisa: "..."

"Sorry, everyone. This little one got a bit too excited playing with her new friends, so we're a bit late," Bai Luo said, showing no surprise at seeing the four people in the room.

He had only arranged to meet Jean, but knowing Diluc wouldn't trust leaving Jean to meet him alone, Bai Luo expected him to come along. And if Diluc came, Kaeya wouldn't be far behind.

"I told you before, stop coming in through the balcony," Lisa sighed, looking at the last flicker of light fading from the broken Small Lamp Grass.

Fortunately, it wasn't a rare item and could be easily gathered near Mondstadt, so the damage wasn't too bad.

"I came in through the window, not the balcony," Bai Luo responded as if it was only natural.

Years of assassinations had made him accustomed to stealthy entrances. Walking through the front door at night felt almost unnatural to him.

"..."

Is this how the Fatui's minds work?

"Let's skip the pleasantries, Ausbilder. I've heard about your plan from Lisa, and we've already verified those devices," Jean said, deciding to get straight to the point after exchanging a glance with Diluc.

The matter was too important to Mondstadt for her to waste time on idle talk.

"So? Will you accept my proposal?" Bai Luo asked, glancing at the single armchair Lisa had prepared for him.

Without hesitation, he sat Collei down on it and shamelessly seated himself next to Lisa.

"I assume you intercepted my letter to Sumeru?" Lisa inquired, pushing a strand of hair behind her ear without resisting his proximity.

Ever since the Fatui had entered Mondstadt, most outgoing correspondence had been monitored. Yet, this time, her letter had gone through without a hitch. Lisa found it hard to believe Bai Luo hadn't tampered with it.

"So, does that mean you've accepted my proposal?"

Bai Luo removed the mask from his face, revealing a gentle smile.

His entire demeanor seemed to change as soon as the mask came off, leaving a strange, surreal feeling in the air.

"We have only one question. If you can answer it, I'll agree to your terms as Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius," Jean said.

Though she was technically the Acting Grand Master, her current authority was almost equivalent to the actual Grand Master.

With Grand Master Varka planning an expedition, he was gradually increasing Jean's influence within the knights.

"Ask away. As long as it's not confidential, I'm authorized to answer," Bai Luo replied.

"Why are you doing this? According to our investigation, you and she just happened to meet by chance. Why are you willing to go to such lengths, even risking betraying Fatui?"

Upon bringing Collei back, Kaeya had used his network to investigate the mysterious girl.

What they found had shocked them. Collei appeared to have a grudge against the Fatui.

During her travels across the seven nations, she had caused them considerable trouble.

Yet now, she was traveling with a Fatui Harbinger, who seemed willing to jeopardize long-standing plans for her sake.

"First of all, I haven't betrayed the Fatui; otherwise, I wouldn't have gone through the trouble of setting up those devices," Bai Luo said. Collei, who had been listening intently, rolled her eyes. "Who was the one doing the hard work? You were asleep in the tent the whole time. It was me!"

Collei shuddered, remembering the time she had almost been surrounded by hilichurls due to a mistake.

"As for why I'm helping her… that's my personal matter. I'm a man who keeps work and personal life separate. Setting up traps for the mission and telling you about them to save her—there's no conflict there, is there?"

"..."

That actually sounded reasonable, but something still felt off.

"Once again, I ask: do you have any ulterior motives?" Jean asked, though she added a polite tone to avoid being rude.

"Ulterior motives? The best plans work when things are evenly matched. For me, if I wanted to cause trouble, I'd just sneak in one night and eliminate all your high-ranking officials in Mondstadt. Wouldn't that be easier? Don't tell me that would ruin relations between our nations—if I don't admit to it, what could you do to me?"

Bai Luo smiled as he said this, but it sent a chill down the others' spines.

Indeed, Mondstadt had some individuals stronger than Bai Luo, but even lions could be caught off guard. Mondstadt's leaders wouldn't be able to stay on high alert all the time. If he truly wanted to, constantly making them wary would drive them to exhaustion.

Bai Luo's combat strength may not be very high among the Fatui Harbinger, but the threat he possesses is even more terrifying than those notorious ones.
