Chapter 386 – Spellbound Academy

Max downloaded the game he was interested in and immediately logged in while waiting for StoneSword to contact him.

The game he chose was called Spellbound Academy. It was a game with a setting in a modern time. The protagonist… Or rather, the player was a new magic academy student like any other. There was nothing special about him.

That alone probably wouldn't make this game interesting. Max wouldn't even touch it if that was the limit of this game.

What sold him to play this game was the variety of spells, the game introduction, and the setting.

There were various spells in the game. First of all, it was divided into four basic elements: water, earth, fire, and air. Then, it was further divided by divisions such as manipulation, conjuring, and support.

Players were able to create a spell based on those elements and divisions, allowing them to create their own unique spell when they reached a certain level.

Not only that, the game also gave something that most players missed in their younger days. School. This game allowed the player to experience school like most students. The player's ability would increase as they attended classes, so that they could skip or attend seriously if they wanted to.

There were also the main quests that looked interesting. And like what Max wanted… There was also a minigame where he could play with other students, meaning other players. The mini-game ranged from one versus one magic duel to a mini-war simulation between two teams.

But that was for the future. Max was currently at the start of the game, a tutorial. He listened to the explanation regarding the magic and was then transported into what seemed like an arena. He stood in the middle, the world was freezing while a screen hovered in front of him.

[Choose your first magic!]

It was written in large letters on the top of the screen. Below it, four images with the name of the magic were present.

[1. Fireball

Waterball Earth Bullet Wind Slash.]

"I have to choose my first magic, huh?" Max muttered as he looked at the screen curiously.

It made sense if he was given a choice at the start and wasn't asked to create his own magic. That would come later in the game.

"What should I choose? Fireball sounds cool. I can burn my opponent with it and there is also burn damage that lasts 3 seconds if the spell hits. But Wind Slash has a high chance of hitting a critical that can even kill the opponent in one hit."

Waterball has a fast cast time while Earth Bullet travels faster than any other spell. All spells had advantages and disadvantages, but the earth and water were out. Why?

'They aren't cool enough.' Max thought as he looked at the chat.

— I am a cool guy, so I will choose fire so girls won't fall for me.

— Maybe you should get an Earth Bullet. It's so fast that the opponent will have a hard time dodging it

— Waterball is fun. You can choke your enemy, watching him suffer. Hehehe, it's a good gag for BDSM play

— It's been in my mind, but… You're Breeze. Aren't you destined for a wind element?

— That's what's been in my mind too.

"You have a point." Max nodded at the reasonable chat. "Alright, wind slash it is. The effect is similar to when I throw a weapon, so it will be easy to use."

Comparing magic to a weapon throw might not be ideal, but that was what he could compare to. There was no way he would compare it to a robot's beam. The latter was just too destructive.

Also, they were right. His name was Breeze, so it was natural to take the wind element.

After he selected it, the screen disappeared and a short wand appeared on his hand. He had a chance to look at his clothes, and he found out that his body was covered with robes with gold lining, just like a typical wizard in fantasy stories.

In front of him, a humanoid rock stood on two legs. It just stood there without doing anything. Two circle marks were drawn on its head and chest.

[Destroy the Rock Doll with your magic.]

Looking at the new notification in front of him, Max mused in wonder.

"I guess that's my target." He said, "How do I activate my magic? Is it like this?"

Max pointed his short wand toward the target and waved it slightly while mouthing the spell.

"Wind Slash."

A blade of wind appeared in front of him and flew toward the rock doll. It hit the doll and left a slashing mark. However, it didn't destroy it as the prompt had said, so the tutorial hadn't ended yet.

"Wind Slash!"

Max tried once again, but this time the wind blade didn't show up. Instead, a window popped up in front of him.

[Invalid! Wind Slash cooldown: 5 seconds.]

The spell's icon that he could see in the corner of his vision had a circle and numbers inside it that indicated the cooldown. It still had the number 3 on it, which turned to 2 a second later.

"Ah, we have a cooldown? Do we also have an MP?"

— There is no MP in this game, but a stronger spell will have a longer cooldown

— MP? What is that? Is that tasty?

— This game is about timing. As long as you can time your spell, you can practically spam them

— Many people use a low cooldown strategy and spam their spells

— Now you understand it, clear the tutorial and destroy that rock doll.

"You don't have to tell me," Max said and waved his wand. "Wind Slash."

The blade of wind flew toward the rock doll and hit the same spot as before. The rock doll crumbled and a notification rang.

[Tutorial complete! The first main quest is generated.]

[Main quest: Meet homeroom teacher, Doordod!]

"Let's get this academy life going."

His body was covered in light and he was transported to the academy's yard.
