HP: Bad Intentions

Chapter 304: I Am Not Human

"I... I have a family too?" Nagini's voice trembled as the words escaped her lips. She froze, struggling to comprehend what Blake had just said.

Blake smiled gently, his eyes warm. "Well... if you don't mind being family with me."

Nagini still couldn't believe what she was hearing. A family? For her? It felt too good to be true. She hesitated, wanting to make sure she wasn't dreaming.

"I... can I double-check? What exactly do you mean by 'family'?"

Blake chuckled softly, noticing the confusion in her eyes. "I mean, you'll be my family from now on. It's not just about staying at my house during the summer. You'll live with us, for good."

Nagini was still in shock, her mind racing. She'd never considered the possibility of having a real family. Not since... well, not since everything changed for her. She stood there, frozen, her heart racing. Blake, sensing her hesitation, scratched his head awkwardly.

"Uh... maybe I was too forward? I mean, if you mind, that's totally okay. You don't have to—"

"I don't mind!" Nagini interrupted him, her voice rising with excitement.

"How could I mind? No one has ever said anything like this to me before. You're the first person, Blake. You're the first!" Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears, her emotions overwhelming her.

"Actually... I really would like to."

Blake was momentarily at a loss. He hadn't expected her to be this emotional. He'd only offered because she had nowhere else to go, and in some ways, her loneliness reminded him of himself when he had first arrived in this unfamiliar world. He'd simply made the offer out of kindness, never imagining it would mean so much to her.

[Ding! Surprised and touched emotions detected!]

A mechanical voice echoed in his mind.

[Ding! Congratulations to the host for obtaining a golden treasure chest!]

Blake chuckled inwardly. Well, it seemed like Nagini really was happy about this. Even the system rewarded him for it.

But as Blake thought back to his own experience of being uprooted from everything familiar, he could begin to understand how she felt. After all, when he had first arrived in this world, everything had felt strange, isolating.

That loneliness—of not knowing anyone, of not having a place to belong—it had gnawed at him. And now, looking at Nagini, he realized how deeply she must have craved that same sense of belonging.

"I'm really glad you're happy about it," Blake said sincerely. "Maybe you don't know, but I'm usually by myself during vacations. If you're around, I'll finally have some company."

The awkwardness of the moment lingered, but Blake wasn't sure how to shake it off. He knew all too well that Dumbledore, for all his wisdom and kindness, wasn't the most present guardian. He was often busy with work, and Blake had spent many holidays alone at home.

Even at Christmas, Dumbledore would only stay for a day before rushing back to Hogwarts. Blake thought back to his time in the orphanage—he'd actually been happier there.

Lady Marian, the caretaker, had genuinely cared for him, and the other children had looked up to him like a big brother. Holidays were spent together, as a family, unlike the lonely ones in Dumbledore's household.

So if Nagini wanted to join him in Godric's Hollow, Blake was more than happy to have her. He knew how it felt to be alone.

But just as quickly as Nagini's joy had come, it was replaced by a flicker of anxiety. "But... will your family members agree to this?" she asked hesitantly.

The more she thought about it, the more she worried. It was one thing for Blake to offer, but would his family accept her? After all, Blake was just a first-year student. Could he really make decisions like this?

Blake smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry, Nagini. If my family doesn't agree, I'll deal with it." He gave a playful wink, hoping to ease her concerns.

In truth, Blake wasn't worried. He knew Dumbledore well enough to know that he would agree, especially once he understood Nagini's situation.

"Besides," Blake added with a grin, "if Dumbledore doesn't agree, I've got enough money now to buy us a house in Godric's Hollow. We'll be neighbours if nothing else."

Nagini's worry didn't fully fade. "But... shouldn't you write a letter to your family? You know, to let them know about me in advance? It seems a bit... sudden to just show up with a stranger and say, 'This person is family now.'"

Blake chuckled. "A letter? Oh no, there's no need for that."

Nagini looked at him, confused. "No need? What do you mean?"

Blake remembered that Nagini didn't know about his relationship with Dumbledore. "Well, my family is... at Hogwarts."

Nagini's eyes widened in surprise. "Wait... you mean your family is here? At Hogwarts?"

"Yep," Blake confirmed, starting to lead her down the corridor. "We're going to see Dumbledore."

"Dumbledore?" Nagini echoed, her tone full of disbelief. "Your family... is Dumbledore?"

Blake nodded, amused by her reaction. "Yeah, Dumbledore adopted me from an orphanage."

Nagini's hand flew to her mouth in surprise. "I'm so sorry," she said quickly, her voice full of regret. "I didn't know..."

Blake could see the sadness in her eyes, and he realized that, to her, an orphanage must have seemed like a terrible place. She probably imagined that it was full of bad memories for him. But that wasn't entirely true. Despite the hardships, the orphanage had given him some of his happiest memories.

"It's okay, Nagini," Blake said gently, but then he paused, as something more serious came to mind.

There was one thing he hadn't told her yet. Something he wasn't sure how she would react to. And if she didn't know, it might cause problems between them later. He didn't want any misunderstandings to arise in the future.

Blake took a deep breath. "Nagini... there's something else I need to tell you."

Nagini looked at him curiously. "What is it?"

Blake scanned the empty hallway, making sure no one was around. Then, with a wave of his hand, he opened a portal. "Come with me," he said, pulling her through the dimensional rift.

They arrived in a small, secluded shack—the Shrieking Shack. It was quiet, and Blake guided Nagini to a worn-out couch.

"This is where Dumbledore used to teach me magic," he explained. "It's a safe place, and I thought it'd be the best spot to share a secret."

Nagini sat down, her unease growing. Blake's sudden seriousness was unusual. "What's going on, Blake? You're scaring me a little."

Blake sighed, pouring her a glass of chilled watermelon juice from the small fridge in the corner. "It's not easy to talk about... and I hope that after I tell you, you'll still want to be part of my family. Or at least, still be my friend."

Nagini's eyes widened, her heart pounding. "Is it really that serious?"

Blake nodded grimly. "Yes. I wasn't thinking before... I was too excited. But now that I'm calm, I realize you need to know the truth. And if you don't want to be my family after this, I'll understand."

Nagini placed a comforting hand on Blake's shoulder. "Blake, you saved my life, remember? I was just a snake before, without any understanding of the world. You gave me a second chance. No matter what you say, I'll stand by your side."

Her unwavering trust brought warmth to Blake's heart. He looked into her eyes, and the encouragement he saw there gave him the strength to speak.

"Nagini... I'm not human."

Nagini blinked in confusion. "What do you mean? You're clearly human."

Blake shook his head. "No... I'm not. I wasn't born like other people. I'm... an artificial life. I was created in a laboratory."

Nagini's eyes widened in shock, but then her expression softened. "So what? It doesn't matter where you came from. You're human now, aren't you?"

"But there's more..." Blake hesitated. "Do you know why Dumbledore adopted me?"

Nagini shook her head. "Why?"

Blake looked down, his voice barely a whisper. "Because... Dumbledore is my biological father."

The revelation hit Nagini like a brick, but she quickly recovered, offering him a kind smile. "Blake, that's not something to be ashamed of. It's a good thing he found you and brought you home."

Blake grimaced. "But that's not all... there's something else. Dumbledore... isn't the only one who had a hand in creating me."

Nagini looked at him, puzzled. "What do you mean?"

Blake took a deep breath. "Grindelwald... is also my biological father."

The watermelon juice slipped from Nagini's hand, crashing to the floor.
