Chapter 14: Chapter 14 Yang Shumin lost his mind
"Come on, Aunt, take a look," Qin Yun hesitated.
Observing his momentary pause, Yang Shumin, embracing her maternal instincts, encouraged him further.
Finally, yielding to her maternal insistence, Qin Yun unveiled his right hand, displaying the nearly ten-centimeter-long wound that still oozed blood.
The injury looked gruesome, yet Qin Yun had skillfully managed it when dealing with the blade, making it appear less severe than it initially seemed. Nevertheless, to Aunt Yang Shumin, it appeared life-threatening.
"Yunyun! You're badly hurt. Why did you keep this from me?" Tears welled up in Yang Shumin's beautiful eyes, revealing a mixture of distress and anger.
Feeling distressed and slightly irate was only natural, but beneath the anger lay a deeper layer of distress. Her child had suffered such an injury and had chosen to hide it from her to spare her from worrying. How could she not be deeply pained by this?
At that moment, Qin Yun couldn't meet Yang Shumin's gaze. Instead, he lowered his head and absentmindedly kicked a small stone at his feet, attempting to divert his attention.
Witnessing his vulnerable state, Yang Shumin couldn't bring herself to chastise him. She stepped to the side of the road and hailed a taxi. However, when the taxi drivers caught sight of Qin Yun's condition, they promptly accelerated away without uttering a word. It was Aunt Yang Shumin who took assertive action, blocking one taxi and allowing them to secure a ride.
"Aunt, please refrain from undertaking such perilous actions in the future. You can't imagine how frightened I was," Qin Yun finally spoke from the back seat, his voice resonating with genuine fear.
Who in their right mind would dart in front of a speeding taxi to stop it?
Upon witnessing Yang Shumin's audacious move, Qin Yun had been both shocked and terrified. However, what touched him even more deeply was the realization that she genuinely regarded him as her son. He could feel it. On numerous occasions, he had regarded her not only as his rescuer but also as someone he wished to protect. In a way, it was a mutual sentiment.
"Yes, Sister, you have no idea how terrifying that was," chimed in the driver seated up front.
In reality, the driver harbored considerable anger. However, he refrained from voicing his frustrations, primarily because Yang Shumin was an attractive woman. He was sure that had Yang Shumin been a man, he would not have held back his exasperation.
Yang Shumin was typically a gentle and polite person, extending courtesy to everyone. However, today had pushed her to her limits. In her heart, there was room only for Qin Yun. Even if her biological son were to call at that very moment, she would have hung up without hesitation. Consequently, she was impolite and unresponsive to the driver's words, with her attention solely focused on Qin Yun.
"Just as Yun Yun wanted to protect his aunt at all costs, his aunt wanted to protect Yun Yun at all costs when she saw your wound. She didn't think things through earlier. Yun Yun, can you find it in your heart to forgive your aunt?" After a prolonged silence, Aunt Yang Shumin leaned on Qin Yun's shoulder and spoke softly.
"I won't hold it against you, Aunt. You don't need to apologize. But please, prioritize your safety in the future. It's more important than mine," Qin Yun responded, his voice laced with emotion.
Touched by Qin Yun's words, Yang Shumin felt a surge of tenderness. Her straightforward, almond-shaped eyes brimmed with deep affection as she gently tousled Qin Yun's hair and patted him. She then embraced him, burying her face in his broad chest.
The two of them held each other in a tranquil embrace, exchanging their thoughts and emotions through their eyes. They relished the warmth and sweetness of their unique bond.
[Why do I feel such an immediate closeness to Yunyun? Can I comfortably recline in his embrace and savor his warmth just a day after acknowledging him as my son?]
[Perhaps it's because I've harbored a fondness for him for quite some time.]
[Back during his freshman year of high school, he made a lasting impression on me, igniting a longing for a son like him. Our reunion today has deepened our connection swiftly. Maybe it was his repeated acts of protecting me today that prompted me to rely on him, convincing me that he is truly my son.]
[I believed these days to be the lowest point of my life, but unexpectedly, today has brought an abrupt pinnacle. Life can undergo profound transformations.]
Yang Shumin contemplated these thoughts, while Qin Yun overheard her innermost feelings, gaining a profound understanding of her sentiments.
"Sister, we've reached the hospital," the driver interjected, attempting to break the spell of their introspection.
However, their reverie was impervious to a gentle reminder. They were so engrossed in each other's presence that they paid no heed to the driver's words.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
"Sister, the hospital is right here!" The driver raised his voice and tapped the mat to regain their attention.
The clamorous noise startled Qin Yun and Aunt Yang Shumin, jolting them from their reverie. They glanced around as if caught engaging in something forbidden.
Could these two really be a mother and son?
The driver couldn't help but cast perplexed glances at them through the rearview mirror, casting doubt on the authenticity of their relationship.
"Driver here's five hundred yuan. There might be a need to clean the blood on the seat. Please take care of it," Yang Shumin handed the taxi fare to the driver. In empathy, Qin Yun added an extra five hundred yuan to compensate for any inconvenience.
"You've been a safe driver," Qin Yun acknowledged as they exited the vehicle.
The allure of money worked its magic, and the driver stepped out of the car, bowing to Qin Yun as a gesture of gratitude.
