It was early morning in the small house where Team 7 and their client Tazuna were staying. Sakura entered the living room, rubbing her eyes and feeling exhausted. "Good morning, Sasuke, Kakashi-sensei, Mr. Tazuna, Inari..." she greeted the group. The tiredness was clear in her voice, as she'd been training secretly every night to improve her chakra control, hoping to become the strong girl she believed Sasuke would love.
Kakashi smiled warmly at her. As an elite Jounin, he had noticed her efforts and silently approved. A teacher couldn't ask for a more diligent student.
Dazuna, sitting at the table, glanced at the empty seat next to him. "Where's Naruto? That boy has been working so hard these past few days. Didn't he come back last night?" he asked, sounding concerned.
Naruto's absence didn't go unnoticed, but Dazuna admired his persistence. "He's been out working harder than expected. But what's the point of all this effort?" Dazuna's granddaughter, Inari, chimed in with a gloomy voice, "They'll never beat Kado. We're all going to die anyway."
Her words clearly undermined the efforts of Team 7.
"Inari!" Tsunami, her mother, scolded her sharply, but the damage was done. The mood in the room shifted uneasily.
Sasuke, never one to sugarcoat things, frowned at Inari's defeatist attitude. "Are you giving up already? If we die, what happens to your family? You should be more grateful to those who are trying to protect you."
He stood up abruptly, clearly irritated, and left the room. It seemed he had something more pressing on his mind.
Inari, shaken by Sasuke's harsh words, retaliated. "What do you know about us? You can't defeat Kado. There's no way you can win," she yelled at his back, the fear and insecurity in her voice evident.
Sasuke didn't stop, but Sakura couldn't remain silent any longer. "Inari, that's enough! You have no idea what Sasuke or Naruto have been through! They've both faced things far worse than what you're dealing with now, yet they never gave up. They keep fighting."
Kakashi intervened gently, backing up Sakura's words. "You think you're the only one who's experienced pain, Inari? These kids have suffered more than you realize, yet they're strong enough to keep going. You should think about that."
Meanwhile, Sasuke had already left the house in search of Naruto. After a short run, he found him sleeping soundly under a tree. Without warning, he kicked Naruto awake.
"Ow, Sasuke, what the heck!" Naruto groaned, rubbing his head.
"Get up. We need to head back for breakfast and get ready. We're going to the bridge soon," Sasuke said, his tone sharp but not unkind. He knew that today was an important day — it would likely be when Naruto would face Shiro.
Naruto sat up, still half-asleep. "Hehehe... Sasuke, you know, I completed that wind-style escape jutsu I've been working on! Thanks for the advice!" Naruto grinned proudly, clapping Sasuke on the shoulder as he stood.
Sasuke smiled slightly, though his expression was more thoughtful than anything. "Really? Well, don't get too cocky. If my guess is right, Zabuza will probably attack us tomorrow, or the day after at the latest."
Naruto's confident smile faltered. "Tomorrow? Or the day after?" he repeated in disbelief. His earlier pride evaporated. Sure, he'd been practicing, but his jutsu wasn't ready yet. He had only about a 70% success rate, and if Zabuza attacked tomorrow, he'd be in serious trouble.
Sasuke narrowed his eyes, sensing Naruto's unease. "Is there something wrong?"
Naruto quickly recovered, puffing out his chest. "No way! I've got this!"
Though internally, he was already panicking. His mind raced as he tried to figure out how to master the jutsu in the little time he had left.
Just then, Naruto's eyes darted to the side, landing on a figure in the distance. "Hey, Sasuke, check out that girl over there!"
Sasuke turned his head to see a young woman in a pink kimono walking toward them. It was Shiro, though Sasuke didn't yet know that. He stared at the figure for a moment before Naruto elbowed him with a teasing grin. "Hah! I caught you looking! Looks like you're not as cold as you pretend to be, huh, Sasuke?"
Sasuke scowled and quickened his pace, brushing off Naruto's teasing. "Idiot."
Naruto, still laughing, ran after him, but Sasuke had already begun moving faster, leaving Naruto behind.
Meanwhile, Shiro, who had passed by them, kept walking, her face serene but her heart conflicted. She recognized Sasuke and Naruto and knew that soon they would be her enemies. Still, there was something about the connection between them, a bond she could not ignore. Shiro's gaze lingered on their retreating figures. "Enjoy these last moments, because tomorrow, you may not live to see another day..."
The next morning, Naruto was fast asleep at the breakfast table. Tazuna shook his head in mild frustration. "I thought that kid said he finished his training. What was he doing last night to be this exhausted?"
Kakashi sighed. "Let him rest for now. Today or tomorrow, Zabuza will be ready to attack again. We'll need everyone at full strength."
Sasuke, standing nearby, nodded in agreement. "Understood."
After finishing breakfast, Kakashi led the group out of the house, with Tazuna, Sasuke, and Sakura following behind. They were heading toward the bridge to finish what they started.
