Chapter 3
In this fictional dynasty, unlike what Pei Xing experienced in his previous life, the restrictions on women were not as severe. Women were still allowed to study and take the imperial examinations, but shuanger were prohibited from participating in the imperial examinations.
The imperial examinations in the Dayu Dynasty were divided into military examinations and civil examinations. The military examination was more challenging to pass than the civil examination, with stricter selection criteria. Students participating in the military examination must first take the literary examination alongside those taking the civil examination. Then, they must pass two additional tests, one on the art of war and another on physical strength.
Those who managed to pass these exams and earn honors were well-versed in both civil and military affairs, and were held in higher regard than ordinary scholars in the Dayu Dynasty.
Among Pei Xing’s group, apart from Song Ning, the other four took the literary examination, while the remaining members participated in the military examination.
.
When Pei Xing and Lu Chao arrived at the location, they found a small crowd gathered around. The cries of a child were faintly audible. Song Ning was scolding someone in anger, and as they approached, they saw him holding a five-year-old child in his arms.
“Why are you so vicious? A young child couldn’t even be spared!”
When they walked closer, they saw the child had a fully intact and very red lotus mark but was crying bitterly. Nearby, Zhou Yan held a tall man by his arm.
Not far away, two burly men were holding a young shuanger in wedding attire.
The person in question was Shi Yi. He had initially intended to take the child and escape over the wall while nobody was watching. However, as he made his way out, he was intercepted by two guards stationed outside.
Compared to his previous life, his current body was not as strong, and his height had shrunk from 1.83 meters to 1.73 meters.
Shi Yi was now in tears, unable to fight or flee, and was being restrained by the two guards.
Suddenly, an unfamiliar person fondled his chest.
“Fuck it! You bunch of scum! Get your hands off me!!”
Shi Yi was furious and wanted to break free from their grasp, but he was held down by their strength, unable to move.
The big man on the right chuckled, insulted him as a whore, and then tossed him into the sedan.
This situation was nothing less than a forced marriage.
Lu Chao held his head in his hand and sighed, saying, “Brother Pei, it appears the joy can’t be achieved.”
When Pei Xing heard a familiar voice, he froze in place, then rushed forward abruptly, overpowered the two guards in no time, opened the sedan’s curtain, and finally laid eyes on the face he had missed so much. He picked Shi Yi up and cradled him in his arms.
Shi Yi, still dazed from being jostled about, assumed that he was still dealing with the same group of people and unleashed a string of curses.
“You rascal! Useless trash! Let go of me…you…you! Damn it!! Old dog Pei!! Bah! Pei Xing! This is beyond imagination!!”
Upon hearing this tirade, Pei Xing laughed and even displayed a hint of affectionate nostalgia of his long-lost nickname. He waved his hand to stop Shi Yi from shouting in his ear, and playfully smacked Shi Yi’s buttocks several times.
“Fuck you! You’re so excited, why are spanking me? You can’t change your bad habits even after death.” Shi Yi wrapped his legs around Pei Xing’s waist, hung himself on the man, and pointed at the second aunt with irritation.
“That old lady and her family seized my property and house, and they wanted to sell me and my younger brother to a man over 60 years old in the town as concubines. When I refused, they beat me and imprisoned me without giving me food.”
Pei Xing couldn’t help but laugh at this series of grievances and accusations. It was clear that Shi Yi had been genuinely distressed, otherwise he wouldn’t have been so obedient as to let himself be spanked.
However, the next words out of Shi Yi’s mouth almost made him lose control.
