Chapter 15: I Am The Only King Of The Forest Of Menos Grande!
Void Night Palace
Baraggan tasted the spiritual wine developed by Szayelaporro, savoring it with an intoxicated demeanor.
Every time he reflected on it, he felt that subduing the Vasto Lorde named Szayelaporro was the most correct decision he had ever made in his life.
But as he was immersed in his thoughts, the forest of Menos Grande erupted.
Gorgeous fireworks of Vasto Lorde Reiatsu burst forth, blooming spectacularly in Hueco Mundo.
Scorching heat waves swept out in all directions like waves, melting the white sand and engulfing the boulders.
Some small creatures or less fortunate animals, unable to escape in time, were disintegrated into spirit particles by the intense aftermath, leaving not even a trace behind.
Flames surged into the sky as roaring mushroom clouds rose amidst the scattered fire.
The white sands and stones of Hueco Mundo were swept away by the brutal winds, replaced by the dazzling heat of ultimate power.
Baraggan's skeletal fingers stiffened slightly, piercing the stone wine glass in his hand.
Even from the distant Void Night Palace, the magnificent scene could still be vaguely observed.
But what shocked Baraggan even more was the Reiatsu emanating from within the flames — the unmistakable presence of El Salvador.
Baraggan knew well of the Vasto Lorde hunter lurking in the forest of Menos Grande.
El Salvador had always avoided challenging Menos Grande stronger than himself, even deliberately hiding his presence.
This made it difficult for Baraggan to do anything against him.
In occasional confrontations, El Salvador would only lose slightly before retreating from the battlefield.
But now…
El Salvador had directly exploded with power?!
Incredible.
The stone wine glass in Baraggan's hand seemed to crumble from the weight of countless years, turning into fine gravel and disintegrating into the air.
"Could it be a newly evolved Vasto Lorde?"
When Shendu had first evolved, Baraggan had considered it an amusing addition to his otherwise boring life.
But in the blink of an eye, the strength of this newly evolved Vasto Lorde now seemed capable of threatening his own position.
"The transformation from prey to hunter..."
Baraggan's voice echoed through the empty halls of the Void Night Palace.
"Hueco Mundo can only have one king!"
Shendu had no interest in whether or not Baraggan was aware of his existence.
As the current King of Hueco Mundo, ruling over the Void Night Palace, Shendu knew that a war between himself and Baraggan was inevitable.
Now that he had already evolved into a Vasto Lorde, there was no reason to delay announcing his arrival.
As for Szayelaporro, the researcher, Shendu didn't think much of him.
Until Aizen officially revealed himself in Hueco Mundo, Szayelaporro would continue being a competent researcher in peace.
"Hmm…"
Shendu withdrew his gaze from the fiery sky, muttering to himself.
"Perhaps that guy has other plans…"
At the critical moment, he recalled Szayelaporro's obsession with various living materials.
There was a certain probability that Szayelaporro now had his eyes on him.
Rolling quicksand flowed toward the crater above the forest of Menos Grande, attempting to refill the area once more.
The wind blew to assist the quicksand in this seemingly impossible task.
Without sparing it a glance, Shendu strode toward his previous destination.
Defeating El Salvador had cost him little time.
The unification of the forest of Menos Grande continued.
With El Salvador as an example, the remaining Adjucha grew far more obedient.
The moment they sensed Shendu's Reiatsu, they knelt immediately, paying homage with the utmost reverence.
With the spreading word of these Adjucha, Shendu's unification of the forest of Menos Grande progressed much faster than before.
The sheer size of the Menos Grande forest exceeded his expectations.
It rivaled, if not surpassed, the scale of human cities in the present world.
It was no wonder Ashido had battled within this forest for centuries without making much impact.
Hueco Mundo, like Soul Society, had birthed countless beings over hundreds of thousands of years.
What appeared here was but a fraction of their true numbers.
Of course, for Shendu, this was still manageable.
As his name spread across the forest of Menos Grande, the Adjucha he subdued grew exponentially.
Until…
Under the leadership of the vulture Menos Grande named Santos, the Adjucha began constructing a throne for Shendu in the heart of the forest.
Leg bones, hand bones, breast bones, ribs…
Piece by piece, white fragments were piled on the ground, forming a hill-sized throne.
Among them, skulls were the most numerous. Skulls of various shapes formed the throne's primary structure.
When Menos Grande evolved into Adjucha, their intelligence often rivaled that of humans.
Some even surpassed it.
Szayelaporro was a prime example.
And there was no doubt that Santos, the vulture Menos Grande, was similarly intelligent.
At the very least, he knew how to curry favor with those in power.
With his wings flaring behind him, Santos proudly supervised the Adjucha's efforts.
"Fool! If you dare place that pelvis on the throne, I swear you won't see the sun tomorrow!"
Boom!
With a swift Cero, the offending pelvis in a confused Menos Grande's hands was incinerated into ashes.
"But Santos, we've never seen the sun…"
A timid Adjucha mumbled.
"It's a metaphor, idiot! A metaphor! Understand?!"
Santos raged, shedding feathers in his fury.
Hueco Mundo was perpetually night, its moon opposite the present world.
None of the Menos Grande had ever seen the so-called sun.
Even Santos had only heard rumors of it.
As the Throne of Withered Bones neared completion, a hum of Reiatsu resonated through the Menos Grande forest.
The scorching Reiatsu rippled through the darkness, forming visible waves.
A sulfuric scent filled the air, burning the throats and lungs of many Adjucha.
But they all knelt low, pressing their twisted heads into the ground.
None dared to lift their gaze.
Tap, tap, tap…
Shendu emerged from the shadows, glancing at the towering throne of bones.
He stepped onto it and seated himself without hesitation.
Moments prior, he had subdued the last batch of Adjucha.
Now, he looked down at the kneeling figures below him, satisfaction flashing in his blood-red eyes.
His commanding voice echoed through the silent forest.
"From today onward…"
"I am the only king of the forest of Menos Grande!"
