IRON MAN: BROTHER DON'T CAUSE TROUBLE

Chapter 27: 27. Runes From Mjolnir

The shock on Jane's face was unmistakable. Everyone could see it clearly. She never imagined that giving a lift to a random passerby would lead her to the younger brother of a famous and wealthy person.

Although she didn't like Tony as a person, she couldn't deny that his intelligence was something she admired. Her thoughts were abruptly interrupted by Coulson's voice.

"Sorry, Mr. John, for my behavior. I'll definitely make it up to you," Coulson said apologetically.

But John wasn't about to let such an opportunity slip by. He decided to strike while the iron was hot.

"How about this? I have a small request. If you can fulfill it, we can forget about everything," John proposed.

Coulson was both surprised and curious. What could someone as wealthy as John possibly ask from him? After a brief pause, he nodded. "Go ahead."

"This is my friend, Thor. We had a bet about whether he could lift a certain item. Do you mind granting us this small request?" John asked, his words making Thor feel deeply grateful.

Thor, while known for his strength, was no fool. He understood how troublesome it would have been without John's influence to get access to the hammer.

After considering the harmless nature of the request, Coulson agreed. He led John and the others inside, where they all gathered around the mysterious hammer. Coulson gestured for Thor to proceed.

Thor approached the hammer, his steps heavy yet filled with determination. The storm outside seemed to synchronize with his emotions,He stared at the weapon that once defined him, his eyes gleaming with hope.

Taking a deep breath, he clasped the handle firmly and pulled.

At first, nothing happened.

The hammer remained immovable, embedded in the ground as though mocking him. Thor gritted his teeth, his muscles tightening as he put all his strength into lifting it. Veins bulged along his arms, and his breath turned ragged. He adjusted his stance, planting his feet firmly on the ground. "I am Thor," he muttered under his breath. "The son of Odin, God of Thunder. I will lift you."

Again, he pulled, this time with a force that made the veins in his neck and forehead protrude. The ground beneath his feet cracked slightly under the pressure he exerted.

But the hammer refused to rise.

With every failed attempt, the storm outside intensified. Lightning flashed wildly, and the rumble of thunder seemed to echo Thor's growing despair.

Thor finally dropped to his knees, his hands still clutching the handle. His broad shoulders rose and fell with each labored breath. For a moment, he simply knelt there, staring at the hammer as though it held all the answers to his pain.

"Why?" Thor whispered, his voice barely audible. "Why have you forsaken me?"

The storm outside seemed to answer his sorrow with a deafening crack of thunder. It was as if the heavens themselves were mourning alongside him.

Thor remained on his knees, his hands now trembling as they let go of the hammer. He slumped to the ground, his head hanging low. "I am no longer worthy," he murmured to himself, his voice breaking.

Everyone in the room exchanged uncertain glances, unsure of what to make of the scene. Coulson broke the silence, his tone laced with confusion. "This was supposed to be a simple bet. Why does it feel... personal?"

But jhon's focus wasn't on thor anymore, At that moment, John felt something stir within him. Without realizing it, he activated the Eye of Truth, causing his eyes to turn golden. Thankfully, his back was to the others, sparing them from the shock of witnessing the transformation.

Through the Eye of Truth, John's perspective shifted. The hammer and Thor were no longer the only things he could see. Floating around the hammer were three runes, glowing faintly. The sight revealed the hammer's mystical origins.

These runes weren't particularly complex, and John memorized them within minutes. When his vision returned to normal, Thor was slumped on the ground, muttering to himself.

Seeing Thor's state, John turned to Coulson. "Coulson, could you please find a place for my friend to rest in the facility? He's not in the right state to leave just yet. Also, could you return this lady's belongings?" John asked, nodding toward Jane.

Coulson considered the request and agreed, finding nothing unusual in Thor's behavior. As for Jane's belongings, Coulson decided there was no longer any reason to keep them.

Turning to Jane, John asked, "Do you want to stay with Thor, or you want to go back? I can bring him to you in the morning."

Jane hesitated but ultimately decided she needed some time alone. "Yes, I'd like to go back. I still have things to do. And Thank you for everything," she said softly before following an agent who handed her a diary, assuring her that the rest of her belongings would be delivered the next day.

After Jane left, John found a quiet spot to meditate. Ever since arriving in Mexico, he hadn't let his practice lapse, and today was no exception, even if progress was slow.

In John's spiritual sea, seven stars shone brightly, each representing a different element—red for fire, blue for water, dark green for wood, green for wind, gold for metal, light purple for electricity, and white for positioning. Currently, John was working on inscribing an eighth rune. He didn't know its exact nature but suspected it was linked to teleportation.

John had recently acquired several new runes from a teleportation circle and a new elemental source as well as today. However, inscribing them was a painstaking process. As an intermediate wizard apprentice, he had already inscribed seven runes. With one or two more, he would reach the limit of his current stage.

While John was focused on his practice, Thor was being bombarded with bad news from Loki—news that had nothing to do with John.

The night passed, and morning arrived. John brought Thor back to town and suggested they head directly to Jane's place, but Thor insisted on going to a bar instead. They spent the entire day there, with Thor drinking beer after beer. John, on the other hand, stuck to a single glass, spending most of his time as a patient listener.

Later, after leaving Thor at Jane's place, John returned to his hotel.

Days passed quickly. Thor and John's friendship grew stronger—until Thor's friends arrived, bringing an abrupt end to their peaceful days.
