Chapter 6
—Ignoring a stalker who’s illegally entered my home might be one of the stupidest things I’ve ever done.
—
“I-I’m coming in,” she said, sounding nervous but not turning back.
As I watched the stalker step into my room, I truly felt the weight of my decision. Why is she coming in when she knows I’m home?
—
“……”
For now, I decided to stick with my previous plan: complete and utter ignorance. But inside, my heart was pounding.
It was a quiet Sunday afternoon. I was mindlessly grinding through a mobile game when I heard the front door unlock. Of course, it scared the hell out of me.
“I, um, just came over…”
“……”
Came over? Really? Why is she coming over while I’m home, instead of when I’m out?
This stalker must know my daily routine by now. Until the recent unusual event, she managed to avoid me entirely.
She would sneak in while I was out, do some housework, sometimes switch out my clothes for new ones. We hadn’t agreed on it, but it had become an unspoken rule of sorts.
Actually, the problem was way before any unspoken rules. A normal person—well, normal for a stalker who trespasses—would still be cautious.
There aren’t many people who would break into a one-room apartment while the owner is home, knowing they’ll definitely be caught. If there are, they’re usually burglars.
“I’m, um, gonna get started, okay?”
But she’s a stalker, not a burglar. If she intended to harm me, she wouldn’t start doing housework after politely announcing it.
—
The clattering sounds of dishes filled the room. She must be washing the dishes piled up in the sink.
I found myself tempted to look away from my phone. Ignoring this situation was using up all my mental energy.
“I’m really happy that you let me come in like this. It means a lot to me.”
No, I didn’t “let” you. I silently tolerated it because you did it in secret, not because I wanted you to do it openly.
No one said you could come and go as you please. Seriously, who are you?
“It feels like we’re living together, doesn’t it?”
It’s not like that at all. You’re just trespassing and doing housework while I’m home. That takes some nerve to call it cohabitation.
I have to admit, I made a mistake. Even though she did my least favorite chores, ignoring her when we first met was a poor decision.
Ignoring someone implies a certain level of acknowledgment. Seeing but not reacting can be interpreted as acceptance.
Especially considering she’s mentally capable of trespassing. A normal person might back off after being caught committing a crime, but a stalker might see it as permission and escalate.
Not considering these downsides was definitely my fault. Regretting it now is pointless.
—
So, what now? Things have clearly crossed a line, and I’m at a loss.
I could end this easily: change the locks, move, or as a last resort, call the police. I have plenty of options.
But I don’t want to do any of those. The bottom line is that she hasn’t really caused any harm. In fact, she’s been more of a benefit than a problem.
As a practically free housekeeper, I can overlook some creepiness. Also, as a guy, I can’t deny being a little attracted to a pretty woman taking care of me.
Plus, having ignored it initially, it’s now a matter of pride. It’s infuriating to suddenly panic after putting up with it for so long.
Considering the benefits and drawbacks, the downsides of drastic actions outweigh the upsides.
Changing the locks or moving costs money. I have some financial leeway from my part-time job and allowances from my parents, but I’d rather not spend unnecessarily.
Calling the police would definitely blow things out of proportion. They’d rightfully scold me for my negligence. I know I messed up.
The worst-case scenario is my parents finding out. If that happens, who knows what penalties they’ll impose. Losing my allowance would be manageable, but if they forbid me from living alone, I’d be screwed.
That’s a real possibility. Parents would naturally worry if their child is being targeted by a criminal. And if they find out I tolerated the trespassing because I was lazy about chores… yeah, I’d definitely get an earful.
—
“Humming happily♪”
And what if I end this now and she retaliates? It’d be terrifying if she went from ecstatic to enraged. If she got vengeful after being rejected…
People who commit crimes aren’t normal. If they get pushed further, they might go completely off the rails.
She already seems mentally unstable, leaning towards being a yandere. If she snaps, I won’t be able to handle it.
—
“Well, I have plans today, so I’m heading out. I’ll be back.”
“……”
Given all that, the only viable response might be to ignore her completely.
Even if things escalate, I’ll continue to ignore her. No reactions. Pretend she doesn’t exist.
At least until the stalker gives up from being ignored, I’ll stick to this plan. It’s a matter of pride now.
—
“Well, I’m off. See you later!”
She could at least say goodbye properly… it’s frustrating that I can’t retort.
Without knowing my inner turmoil, she left my home cheerfully.
—
“In the end, she never introduced herself.”
So, who exactly is this stalker?
