Killua Zoldik
My name is Killua Zoldik. I am sixteen years old. I am the heir to the famous Zoldik clan of assassins, and my family wants me to inherit the family business. The only problem is, I don't really want to. I decided a long time ago that I wanted to be a normal guy, live a normal teenage life like other kids do, and be friends with my friends. But my family doesn't really care about what I want, they still insist on doing what they want. They still want me to continue the family business. I don't really care what they want, because I ran away from home a long time ago and live the way I want. And they, in turn, do not even try to interfere with me, because they somehow have a holy certainty that I'll come back anyway. Let them think so, fools, I am completely satisfied with this life and I am not going back. I'm quite happy.
At the moment, I've just arrived in Yorkshin City on a little business. It's been a hell of a long time since I've been here. It still seems like the same town, but it feels like something's changed. I'm probably just imagining it because it's been so long since I've been here. Anyway, it doesn't matter. My best friend, Gon Fricks, is also coming to town soon. We haven't seen each other in over a month. I've been busy, he's been busy. We haven't had much time to see each other, and now we're finally going to see each other. I thought he said he had some business in Yorkshire and could use my help. I don't know what he needs help with, but how could I refuse him? He's my best friend, so I'd be happy to help him.
And while I'm waiting for him to arrive, I need to go to a coffee shop and get something to eat. It's daytime and I haven't eaten anything since this morning. I'm near the city centre at the moment, which means there must be a diner or something nearby.
After wandering the city streets for another two minutes and turning the corner into another street, I finally found what I was looking for: a small café that was next door to a musical instrument shop. Great, I'll grab a bite to eat here.
Once inside, I sat down at a completely free table and ordered some soup. I didn't have much money with me, so I didn't want to waste it.
It was noteworthy, by the way, that there were not many other visitors. Five people, and they started to leave, but others came instead of them; no one came to me, and I was happy about that.
And yet... I still had the feeling that the city had changed somehow, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Something seems to have changed, but what? The buildings are the same, the alleys are the same, everything is the same, but... the atmosphere has become somewhat different. It's like something's changed internally, not externally. It's like the outer structure is the same, but the inside is different. But come on, I just hope it doesn't lead to something bad. Maybe this change was good for us. When Gong gets here too, I'll have to ask his opinion about it.
I'm still curious about Gon's purpose in this town, by the way. He hasn't told me anything, of course, but I have a rough idea. Besides already wanting to find his father, now he probably wants to deal with one more person. Yeah, well, as far as I know he's been training hard for the last two years; I don't know how he's going to ruin himself.
And this all started about two years ago. At that time we were in East Goruto and we were on a mission to destroy the Chimera Ants, and in particular their King. At first, everything went as it should. We had a team and followed a certain plan. But when we were a few days away from the assault, we had a surprise visitor. Yes, 'he' showed up with his team and disrupted the whole plan. He didn't care how we planned to do things; he did things his way. He didn't want an alliance either. He had some agenda of his own that we never got to know about. So we tried to get in their way, but we had to stop or we would have died. There was one unusual moment when Gon was about to attack, but at the last moment he was stopped, or rather knocked out. Even though Kurapika did it, he still blames it on someone else. Then we couldn't stop them. Even though they managed to defeat the Ants themselves, the price was high. The royal palace, along with the people of the city who were there for the selection, was completely destroyed by a powerful explosion. It was an event that shocked us all, and 'they' were never found. They disappeared and haven't been seen since.
All right, well, let's not dwell on the unpleasantness of the past. I need to distract myself, and I did. To be more exact, I was helped by a guy sitting not far behind the counter, who suddenly started to hum something softly.
- Happy with what you have to be happy with
You have to be happy...
He suddenly stopped. I guess he realised he was doing it out loud. Well, it happens.
This guy was sitting with his back to me, so I couldn't see his face, but I could see his long, shoulder-length purple hair, the fact that he was wearing a leather jacket with drawings of musical notes of various sizes on it, and the fact that he was wearing headphones on his head. Apparently, he was so engrossed in the music that he didn't notice how he started singing along to the song playing. There's already music playing in the cafe, by the way, but he's still listening to his own.
Except for his slightly extravagant appearance, he's a pretty ordinary guy. I don't feel threatened by him. Although... no, I don't think so, it's just my imagination. Well, to hell with him, let him sit.
I already ate the soup they brought me, by the way. Should I order something else? Shit, I want to order something sweet, but I can't. I'd spend all my money. I should wait for Gon, he's gonna want to eat too. He's supposed to call me when he gets here, but he hasn't yet. Well, I'll wait.
Happy with whatever you have to be happy with... Oh, shit! That guy sang that song, and now it's stuck with me. It's stuck on me.
I was about to order something else when suddenly there was an incredible pressure in the air around me. The atmosphere around me changed dramatically. If before I felt that I was in a cosy cafe, as it should be, now it seemed to me that I was attached to a bomb, which was about to explode and blow up everything here. What is the reason for this drastic change? I'm not exactly sure, but I think it's somewhere nearby.
Cautiously turning around, I finally realised it. The guy who was sitting next to me, behind the counter, was now looking towards the exit to the street. And there was another guy standing near that very exit, who didn't seem to be particularly notable.
He was dressed in ordinary loose sports trousers and a light windbreaker, on which there were inscriptions: 'Speed' on the left side of his chest, and 'Harvest' on the right. And his hair looked a little like Gon's, but more dishevelled.
The two of them looked at each other with incredible animosity, forming the very atmosphere in the air. The guy in the headphones was looking at his apparent enemy with a slight sneer, while the other guy had a look of pure malice in his gaze and expression. One continued to sit on the chair, the other near the exit to the street. They looked at each other as if they were ready to throw themselves and start a fight at any moment.
It was just so tense.
And all the other customers, by the way, and the staff of the cafe, apparently, did not feel it, continuing to go about their business. Though some of them still looked at these two with suspicious glances. I had no idea what to do. Of course, it was stressing me out, but it seemed like suicide to interfere. Maybe it'll work itself out. They're not going to start a fight in a public place.... Or would they?
After another five seconds of tense silence, the atmosphere in the air seemed to have defused. The guy in the headphones continued to sit in his seat, turning away in the other direction, while the other guy, in turn, relaxed a bit and leisurely headed forward to take some table.
'Did it really work out?' - I thought, already relaxed, when suddenly the guy who was heading to his table started to walk past a seated guy wearing headphones, who suddenly addressed him.
- I didn't realise dogs went in cafes. How did they even let them in here? The place stinks,' he said with a sneer, clearly wanting to piss off his companion.
- Bellamy, what the fuck are you fucking with me for? - He wasn't shy with his language. - What the fuck do you want to do? Let me get something to eat.
- So why don't you eat in a rubbish tip? You're used to this kind of food, and you'll scare people away with your dirty looks. You got no business here, Bellew. Get the hell out of here.
- What you're saying to me is nothing more than an empty fart. I'll leave when I want to leave. You're the one who should be the one who should get out.
These two... the one in the headphones is called Bellamy, and the slightly dirty one is called Bellew. The atmosphere between them is rapidly escalating again. And now I don't like it any more.
- Bellew, you'd better know your place. At this rate, you're going to go even further down the drain. You've got a reputation as chain dogs, and you want to take it even further. You'd better sit tight and stay put. Maybe after a while of compliant behaviour, you'll finally get some leniency. What am I talking about? For chain dogs like you, even this life is quite acceptable.
- But I'd rather be chain dogs than little bitches like you. And when I say bitches, I don't just mean animals, Bellamy. - A smile, more like an animal grin, appeared on Bellew's face now.
Bellamy instantly jumped up from his chair and stood in front of Bellew, who in turn continued to stand at attention. They stood opposite each other, four metres apart, and seemed ready to start a fight at any moment.
It was evident that Bellamy was no longer as cheerful as before. He was a little more serious. Bellew, on the other hand, was a little more cheerful; he still had a grin on his face that resembled an animal grin, but he was still serious.
The more they stared at each other in silence, the more I realised that something bad was about to happen, and it seemed that the cafe staff, along with the customers, had already realised this and hurried away, while I continued to sit there, and these two didn't even seem to notice me.
As it seems to me, this already needs to stop.
I barely wanted to get up from my seat and intervene when suddenly my gaze fell on Bellew's arm. I noticed that he had several small iron balls rolling out of his sleeve, which he clasped between his fingers. At that very moment I realised one thing: the battle had begun.
Bellew swung his arm and threw the iron balls at great speed, but Bellamy saw it coming and dodged the attack by jumping behind the bar. The balls flew on, hitting the wall, but the strange thing was that they didn't get stuck in it, they ricocheted off and flew in other directions, and one of them headed for me. Their speed was tremendous, but I was able to react in time by flipping the table over to protect myself, but it didn't help much, and the ball went through the table without a problem, but it passed me and ricocheted off the floor and hit the wall; this time it got stuck in it.
Shit, this guy has to be stopped or he's going to blow the place apart!
I climbed out of my hiding place and rushed towards Bellew, who at the same time pulled out more balloons, throwing them again at Bellamy, who was still behind the counter and barely managed to dodge again, although this time the balloons tore his clothes a bit.
Bellew had his back turned to me at the moment. This is my chance! He must be finished!
I swung to deliver the killing blow, but at the last moment, my whole body was hit by a powerful blast wave, and a loud sound was heard in the air. It was the sound of a guitar.
From such a powerful shockwave, Belle and I were thrown backwards, and we crashed into the wall, with almost all the windows of the cafe shattered into many small shards, which fell on me as I fell to the floor.
What had just happened? The sound of a guitar along with a powerful shockwave. Could it be...
Looking up, I saw a smug Bellamy standing right on the counter, holding something in his hands. Only the strange thing was that I couldn't see what it was. There was something there, but it was invisible. Quickly orienting myself, I realised that I had to use Gyo here, which I did.
Now I could see that Bellamy was holding a guitar. It looked like an ordinary red-coloured electric guitar, but it was strange that it couldn't be seen without Nen's concentration in her eyes.
- 'All right, girls,' Bellamy spoke up. - 'Time to rock the hell out of this shithole!
He struck the strings of his guitar with all his might, and the whole room was hit again by a powerful shockwave, which was even more powerful this time, and even broke some furniture, and I was thrown back against the wall. Thank God I had time to cover my ears, but it didn't help much. I could feel the intense pain all over my body, and my ears were not only ringing now, they were bleeding.
What the hell is this Nen ability?
When I found the strength to raise my head, I saw Bellew had already recovered and was rushing to attack. He grabbed anything he could get his hands on: cutlery, crockery, remnants of furniture. He grabbed everything and threw it at his enemy. And the strange thing was that he didn't look like he was throwing his projectiles very hard, but the speed they were travelling was astounding. Bellamy could hardly dodge it all.
Bellamy tried to attack Bellew again with the shockwave from his guitar, and this time the shockwave was concentrated into a single point, no more than a metre in diameter. I realised this when Bellamy attacked Bellew, but he was able to dodge and a hole was created where he was standing. If that attack had hit its target, he would have been in a lot of trouble. Bellamy attacked with a new wave, but this time he managed to dodge, and as soon as he did he grabbed a bunch of knives lying nearby and gave each one a gentle push to make them spin. But contrary to my expectations, the knives began to spin with incredible speed, resembling helicopter propellers.
Apparently, this was his Nen ability. He could make objects move at incredible speeds. At least that's what I realised.
A bunch of knives spinning at tremendous speeds were placed on Bellew's hands, and without waiting long, he threw them at his opponent, and those that slightly resembled shurikens flew forwards. This time the attempt to dodge was not quite successful for Bellamy. He dodged the vital hits, of course, but one left a cut on his cheek, another on his arm, and a third hit him in the side. Bellamy lost a little concentration, and Bellew took advantage of that, lunging in and dodging, with an underhook, another shockwave. Bellew pushed off the floor with his arms and kicked with all his might at Bellamy's chin, sending him flying upwards and crashing into the ceiling before collapsing to the floor.
All right, no more wallowing! We need to get involved in this. They're both sick in the head, but we need to kill at least one of them.
With a fist of will, I got to my feet and lunged at Bellew as he was about to deliver the final blow to Bellamy. And I was just in time. I leapt into the air and delivered a powerful blow to Bellew's head that sent him flying off, breaking the table. Amazingly, he was still alive after that. He's got a strong head. I rushed at him again for the finishing blow, and when I was just short of ripping out his heart, he reacted and dodged, so fast that I hardly realised it. Immediately afterwards he was on his feet and kicked me in the stomach, sending me flying backwards.
Damn, that hurt! He's got a hell of a punch. He's a hell of a fighter. I have to fight hard or I might even die. Even though I haven't had time to charge up properly and won't be able to use Divine Speed, even what I have now should be enough for him.
I got into a fighting stance and prepared to attack, but Bellew just looked at me with a disdainful smirk on his face and then threw off his windbreaker, which was just a T-shirt underneath.
What was he up to? Is something going to happen now?
He spread his arms slightly apart, and then something began to materialise on them. It was teeth! Teeth like a goddamn chainsaw! Every single one of his arms looked like a chainsaw!
Who the hell is this guy? Given the abilities I had seen from him earlier, I had already decided that he was a Manipulator, but what I was seeing now... these were clear signs of a Materialiser.
While I was a little confused by what I was seeing, the teeth on Bellew's hands started to move, and now his hands looked even more like chainsaws, though they barely made a sound. And so Bellew launched himself at me in an attack. His speed was great, but it was possible to react. He tried to strike. But I managed to dodge and tried to hit back, but he dodged as well.
We both seem to realise the gravity of the situation. He doesn't want to get hit by me, and I don't want to get hit by him. But sooner or later someone is going to get hit.
After numerous exchanges of blows, I finally hit him with the Lightning Palm, and it worked. Bellew collapsed to one knee and started trying to regain consciousness. I decided to take advantage of this and finish him off, but as I raised my hand to strike, I suddenly noticed that he had a mug in his hand, which he threw at me. Normally with such a weak throw, the mug would fly away a few metres at most, but he used his ability again and the mug flew with great speed straight at my face. I couldn't dodge it, and it hit its target, disorienting me and giving me a nosebleed.
Bellew took advantage of my disorientation and was about to chop my head off with one swing, and all I could do was to use my shoulder, reinforcing it with Nen. It worked, he didn't chop my head off, but he did start chopping my shoulder. Though no... not chopping. The teeth on his hands tore through my flesh, causing terrible pain that made me scream, but, gathering my will in my fist, I struck him again with the Lightning Palm in the chest. His face was even more painful than the last one, but he didn't go down; instead, he kicked me with all his might, throwing me out the window.
Goddamn it!...! This guy is very strong. He used his teeth to cut my shoulder so badly that it almost went to the bone. Damn, that hurts! If I want to have any chance of winning, I need to find a power source and recharge. Except if I do, this guy won't let me.
Oh, there's this guy, Bellew. He's already jumped out into the street and he's heading towards me. Shit, I've got to hold on and keep my hooves on, and then I'll figure something out.
Bellew attacked me and we continued to exchange blows again. It was harder to dodge because I was injured, but my opponent was probably also feeling the effects of the electricity.
And then I made a mistake, and Bellew landed several punches on me, followed by a leg kick that knocked me back a little more. While I was on the ground, Bellew jumped into the air and was about to chop me in half on landing. Luckily there was a hatch near me, which I immediately grabbed and blocked the blow, reinforcing Nen beforehand. But Bellew's teeth cut even that, making a not-so-nice sound. With every second I felt like the speed of the teeth was only increasing, cutting the hatch more and more.
Damn it, it's gonna get me! I've got to do something.
The hatch was about to be cut in half, but I was able to slip forward a little and kick my opponent in the chin so that he flew up into the air a little and swayed as he landed.
Shit... What to do? I have to think of something right now, or else I'm going to die!
Bellew had already recovered a bit and was about to attack again, when suddenly we were both stopped by a voice from outside that belonged to Bellamy.
- All right, dickheads, ready to hear some real rock?
- Oh, shit! - Bellew suddenly became alarmed.
I didn't fully understand what had happened, but a moment later Bellamy strummed his guitar again, and immediately afterwards there was such a loud and powerful shockwave that Bellew and I were thrown with great force into the building at our side.
'What just happened? How did I get into all this shit?' - the thoughts that resounded in my head at the moment, aside from the deafening ringing. As I looked around at the bystanders running off in different directions and Bellew fleeing the battlefield, I suddenly realised I couldn't hear anything at all. Am I...deaf? It was a hell of a nuisance, but at least I was alive, albeit with severe pain all over my body.
And then I realised I had to do the same thing my opponent had just done. Get the hell out of here!
As I stood up and ran away, I looked back and saw only Bellamy standing outside the diner, who clearly wasn't going to chase me, and the half-destroyed music equipment shop that was nearby.
Running, and there was nothing else to do right now. I don't know what kind of lunatics they were, but they were a pain in the arse to mess with. And for some reason I think they had something to do with the fact that I had sensed some kind of change in the city earlier. It's weird.
After running a few hundred metres away from the recent battle site, I stopped to catch my breath and come to my senses, when suddenly someone put a hand on my shoulder. I jumped back and turned around to get into a fighting stance, but there was someone I had forgotten about. It was Gon! He was saying something worriedly and waving his hands. Apparently, he was worried about me and wanted to know what had happened. It's a shame I didn't hear anything.
But still...I was damn glad to see Gon.
