Lightning Doesn't Strike Twice!

Chapter 5: Chapter 5

Chapter 5

After Brent, I ask one of my guy friends Josh. He laughed and asked why. To prove to myself I can ask a guy out as I let out a small awkward giggle. He looked at me stunned.

You're a jerk. Why, I asked him. Cause what if I wanted to go out with you? Sorry, Josh, it was a test you're too young for me anyway. I am just a year younger he shouted in disbelief.

I looked at Beck and shrugged my shoulders. She grabbed him by the ear and dragged him off.

Thanks, Kaysi you started something now laughing back at me.

I'll tell the coach to make him have a cold shower and some extra laps for you. As she dragged him to gym class.

No.. Becky, he exclaimed, the coach is already hard on me already!

My grades got better from this point on also and some of the guys who bullied me before were hitting me now. I kinda missed being invisible but things were better at the least to say.

When I got home my report showed the real impact. Now I still got teased now I was getting called a nerd. So I stopped showing off and raising my hand to call out loud the answers.

My teachers were cool enough to know what I was doing and stop calling on me.

As long as grades were still good they would be okay. At home, I brushed my hair more and took care of myself better too.

All in all, I had a better attitude I felt about things more confidence. From time to time I caught myself showing off a bit. Anything to keep kids from looking at me the way they did before.

I never turned on my friends or lost myself. I just changed "enough" to stop being a target for most people.

I moved to Plum Street in the middle of the year. We had to because our stack of bills was getting bigger.

Some of my older siblings were moving out on their own so it was time to downsize.

I made jokes because we went from Cherry Street to Plum Street. Our homes were always streets that were a little fruity.

But the neighborhood was pretty cool. We were spending the last night in our old home cleaning it up and loading the last bit of stuff.

I took my dog Baby, a small but fierce Pomeranian mix on a walk right before then. As we turned the corner her fur stood straight up on end. As large as a red-eyed black wolf that was digging in the ground of someone's backyard. This was unnatural we lived in the city.

I feared for the baby she had a lot of bark to her but no bite. Ready to protect her I grabbed her in mid-attack as the wolf lounged in our direction.

I got a small scratch from his teeth running with Baby in my arms to our house as fast as I could.

I looked around for the wolf; it must have left me not interested anymore. Once I thought it was gone walked outside this time by myself.

Not wanting to provoke another attack cause of my little dog. Was this for real or a spirit I ignored them for the most part.

I guess curiosity so to speak was the killing my rhetorical cat. I went looking for this thing; but very cautiously. But It was nowhere to be found.

Just as I was about to leave, I saw this man with long white hair and a long black coat that went down to the ground. He had an old black leather hat. He didn't see me and so I followed as fast as I could behind him staying out of sight.

He had a knife strapped on his leg that looked weird. Was he a hunter of some kind? Was he hunting that thing? What was he after could he be after me I thought?

No, I am being paranoid. Secretly I knew that my gifts could one day get me into trouble but this was overthinking at its best. He walked far ahead of me. An old train station and a wall with a railing were blocking the end. Either he disappeared or he had to of jumped the wall to get over the railing.

I was debating on turning back or continuing to go look for him. Just then something pulled me away. It was a large dog.

I thought for sure it was the wolf but it wasn't. This one was different.

All of a sudden It spoke, It said, it is time. You can talk, I exclaimed this is an animal what's going on? It's time for you to wake up.

Looking at it, I realized it was Baby my dog!? Speaking to me and she grew huge?

I am your guardian sent here in animal form to protect you. You're being hunted and you are putting yourself into too way much danger. You're a fool gifted with seeing the dark spirits or demons and here are following them. She sounded like my mother.

As if my dog talking, didn't throw me off guard my brain didn't really catch up to itself.

I started to argue back at her like I did when she did something sassy and I would play with her as a regular dog.

Look here I was just trying to figure out what's up with these things coming around here.

You're a target, you are coming into your Seer's powers. Your eyes are waking to these things and seeing visions. You are growing stronger opening your Waymaker skills.

Unfortunately, you wake up much faster than you were supposed to. This isn't supposed to happen for the next several years your only 13. There is nothing we can do now.

At this point you're not strong enough yet so you're getting attacked.

Now look here I just changed everything about me to get targets off my back I jokingly said. I have been trying to get stronger as a backup safety precaution.

But see that's just it you are getting stronger and that's what waking up too early can kill you.

You only feeling weak because as your body gets weaker your spirit gets stronger. You're going to die, the demons are attracted and growing so they can be getting closer to your light. Kaysi, you now have to wake up fully, or will surely be killed.

Everything hit me at once, I felt dizzy my world started to spin I thought I was about to be sick.

Standing there outside in the night. I felt like my heart, was going millions of miles per hour. I could feel the darkness growing around me trying to consume me.

There were monsters coming from nowhere circling us.

Where did they even come from why was their presence so strong?

They were overpowering my senses. There had to at least be 5 or more of the wolves-like creatures.

What was going to happen next to me? What was I going to do I was defenseless. Just a young weak girl in my last year of middle school. I don't have any weapons or special powers to repel them. I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

Was born like this? We these gifts given to me just so I could see this horrifying death all too soon? What cruel fate?

What should I do or could I do now?

I started to pass out falling to the ground I could barely see the battle going on. Baby was attacking the demons that outnumbered her. Even as I passed out I was fading in and out of consciousnesses.

I woke up the next morning in my bed. The baby was on her pillow that lay next to my bed. She had an injury to her leg and looked a little beat up. Not quite sure how we got here. Guessing she carried me.

I decided not to ask questions but to let her rest and go to school. Also, I didn't want to strike up a conversation. I don't know if I wanted to know what happened last night.

I didn't know who I could talk to about this anyway. It was kinda awkward for me. But I wanted to get things off my chest.

I meet up with Beck outside at our normal spot by the bleachers waiting for the bell to ring.

Hey, Kaysi Beck says, with a sincere voice. Yeah, Beck, I said keeping my head down.

What's going on with you today, you look a little pale.

Well, not sure what story to tell her. Beck looked at me, with worry like I was just going to drop dead any moment.

Laughing out loud well it's hard to say I just got into a dog fight last night with a nasty dog. It was trying to kill my dog baby. Are you hurt? Nah… just sore that's all.

Just as I was talking to Beck, a large red dodgeball came flying threw the air from the other side of the field. My body dodged it as fast as any human possibly could.

I completely lost my balance.

Once again like my knight and shining armor D was there to catch me before I could hit the ground.

Where did he even come from? This was kind of our secret spot away from everyone.

Beck's jaw dropped and her eyes lit up.

I smiled a quick smile trying not to let him see my reaction. In a way I was to trying say in agreement to Becky's amazement, that yes this is the guy.

Well, at least Beck was thrilled that she got to meet him. I was kind of happy too I can't lie.

His being here was the best timing in the heat of a moment I could ask for. It distracted Beck, besides I didn't want to talk anymore about last night anyway.

As he let me down. I curled into a ball clutching my stomach. KAYSI what's wrong you both yelled.
