Chapter 147 Just a Songwriter_2
Upon hearing this, Li Mingwei was momentarily choked up but did not dwell on the issue.
"So many stars fall just because they have too many weaknesses. You want to be a top idol, so many eyes are on you. There are only so many spots, and if you rise, naturally you'll be stealing someone else's spotlight."
"I always tell you to keep a low profile. It's only been a little over half a year since that incident, and you're starting again. Do you really think you can be a star for life, that fans will love you forever?"
"Being a big target is like being a sitting duck. Your comeback after screwing up was all thanks to your popularity. Those fans are crazy for you today, but if you mess up, they won't hesitate to trample you mercilessly."
Ji Chen listened to the nagging of the old nanny, Li Mingwei, and a look of annoyance began to show on his face. It was always like this, with him always liking to bring up old issues.
"I had it removed, just think of it as luck for that bumpkin."
Upon hearing this, Li Mingwei did not continue to nag Ji Chen. He knew this one couldn't be forced, but his temper was indeed foul, stubborn as a bull.
"Remember what you said, next time you mess up, I won't be cleaning up your mess."
"Mhm."
There was silence in the office for a while. Li Mingwei lowered his gaze, pondered for a moment, then suddenly raised his head to ask.
"What's your beef with Xu Qingyan? How did he offend you?" Experience more content on empire
"He cursed at me on the phone."
"Just cursed at you? That's it?" Li Mingwei looked perplexed and thought to himself, 'What a psycho', "You spent so much money, hired so many people just because...?"
Ji Chen was displeased, his eyelids slightly pressed.
"In front of Pei Muchan."
Oh, it's still about a woman; that makes sense. How many heroes in history eventually succumbed to the test of a beauty?
But upon mentioning Pei Muchan, Li Mingwei suddenly thought of something else. Although unsure, he still tentatively asked.
"Aren't your families acquainted? Haven't you gotten her yet?"
Ji Chen's gaze was cold, and his face bore an expression as if saying 'why bring up the very thing I don't wish to discuss', and coldly replied.
"No."
Li Mingwei pulled out his phone and searched for a few terms, speaking without looking up.
"She doesn't like you?"
"Don't know."
"She and that civilian, Xu... Xu Qingyan, right, seem pretty close on the love reality show. With you so close at hand, you didn't get there first," Li Mingwei muttered.
"You're not thinking of having a secret romance with her, are you? I advise you to be careful; can't you find someone else? Like a model, or a freshly debuted little starlet, someone more obedient."
Ji Chen rubbed his ears, his expression growing darker.
"Mind your own business about my affairs, it won't affect the band anyway. I just can't swallow my pride, what makes that bumpkin think he can compete with me? Does he even qualify?"
Li Mingwei looked down at his phone, and suddenly blurted out.
"Isn't it, though? Pei Muchan's popularity is on the rise again. I checked, and her last two songs did pretty well, have you listened to them?"
"Listened to a bit."
"So you haven't listened to them, then? And you say you like Pei Muchan?" Li Mingwei knew Ji Chen too well; him acting all aloof meant he hadn't listened.
"I only like her as a person; it has nothing to do with the songs. No need to waste time," Ji Chen paused for a moment before adding, "I'm very busy, don't have time to pay attention to these things."
"Her songs... both exploded; one is 'Sunny Days,' and the other is called 'Always Been Quiet.' "Li Mingwei glance at the time; it was five twelve pm.
"Forget it, no more chit-chat, I've got a gathering tonight."
Ji Chen stood up, his long legs striking the ground, tall and slender, the height of 186 cm providing an imposing presence. He looked down upon his agent in this high-and-mighty manner and impatiently turned around.
Just as he took his long legs toward the door and was about to pull the glass door handle, Li Mingwei's voice floated eerily from behind.
"Huh, Pei Muchan's two new songs were written for her by Xu Qingyan?"
Ji Chen's hand paused, turning his head to look at Li Mingwei.
"Written by whom?"
"That bumpkin you mentioned. The man's got talent for songwriting. Let's see... The hit song 'The One I Miss' by Lin Wanzhou was also written by him."
Li Mingwei initially started off joking but, as he scrolled through his phone, his expression gradually turned serious.
He looked up at Ji Chen with a complex expression.
"Newcomer songwriter debuts with three hit songs, 'Qing Tian' has already been selected by the 'Youth Journey' drama crew as the theme song. Is this the country bumpkin you're talking about?"
Ji Chen was stunned himself, letting go of the glass door handle, his expression turning strange.
"Three songs? Were they well written?"
"With an average sales of over a million per song, what do you think?" Li Mingwei said, "It's been rare to see a new song with such momentum these past two years, especially one that's released across the entire network."
He fell silent for a moment, his face showing no sign of defeat.
"Just a songwriter, huh."
As he spoke, Ji Chen turned and left. Li Mingwei was left alone, staring at his phone at the top ten rankings on Penguin Music, lost in thought.
Talented songwriters are indeed a rare resource.
The entertainment industry lacks everything but handsome men and beautiful women. Songwriters, directors, these are the real treasures, the geese that lay golden eggs, the cows that graze and produce milk.
If you want to promote someone, you smash them with resources. What are resources? Nothing more than money and these treasures. Actors, singers, as long as they can produce works, they can be further packaged.
"Have to find someone to make an introduction soon, get to know them." Li Mingwei muttered to himself, following out the door.
With a soft bang, the office returned to silence.
...
Xu Qingyan pushed open the door, and the studio on the second floor reflected a swath of rosy light.
He saw Pei Muchan leaning on the desk playing with her phone, her cheeks as rosy as the dawn, her skin delicate and tender like a rose in the evening breeze. He couldn't help but be stunned.
Pei Muchan noticed him too, and as she looked up, she met his direct gaze, feeling a warmth in her heart. She was the first to look away, feeling an unusual sensation.
"Finished working?"
"Yes." He coughed and took his seat.
The sunset was intense, filling the spacious office with a sea of orange light, softly dancing. The scene was indeed romantic, and Xu Qingyan wasn't in a rush to eat dinner.
The two remained silent for a while, the deliberate brewing of quietness didn't last long.
Pei Muchan asked, "Did you see the hot search this afternoon?"
"No, just finished arranging the music." He leaned back in his chair, flipping open a corner of his notebook, holding it with his finger, not in a hurry to turn the page, "What hot search?"
"All the male guests on the romance show have been exposed for scandals, and it's probably still hanging in the top position of the hot search right now. I looked at your scandal sheet, there's no update."
"...There's not much about me to begin with." Xu Qingyan said.
"Yeah, what I mean is... this is good news." Pei Muchan realized her words might have been ambiguous, "Now no one is gossiping about you, it's a good time to release a statement."
"That is true, just that I'm shy by nature, a bit of social anxiety, I don't know what to post." He said earnestly.
Pei Muchan was momentarily speechless, feeling the extent of this person's thick-skinnedness. Going on a romance show for money and mockery, he was a professional player in this new money-making field.
Confronting online backlash as if receiving compliments, his emotions were steady as the ocean, not at all affected.
You're telling me you're shy? This is social anxiety?
"Refute the rumors, describe the hurt from the cyberbullying you've experienced. Then add a line that you're already pursuing legal action, and that's good enough." Pei Muchan pondered for a moment.
"Just don't indiscriminately attack netizens, and any way you write it should be fine."
Xu Qingyan simply responded, "I won't."
Pei Muchan was suddenly tongue-tied, visibly upset.
"Then don't post it."
"How about you post it for me?" Xu Qingyan was tapping on his phone, not looking up, "I'm afraid I'll get heated when I see those comments and start clashing with netizens."
Hearing this, Pei Muchan's smooth cheeks heated up, that strange feeling in her heart becoming more pronounced.
"You want others to do even this for you?"
"Yes." Xu Qingyan said, adding casually, "I found out that this was done by that bastard Ji Chen, just because I talked back to him a few times."
"Huh?" Pei Muchan looked up, her eyes full of confusion.
