Marrying Wives and Attaining Immortality in a Chaotic World

Chapter 90: Inscription

Chapter 90: Inscription

Qin Liu led the way, Chen Lu walked in the middle, and Xu Lian followed behind, leading the donkey. After walking in the mountains for half a day, they finally arrived at their destination.

Chen Lu and Qin Liu were busy determining the location of the tomb, discussing the position of the tomb door, the tomb passage, and the tomb chamber, as well as the best place to start digging.

“Xu Lian, stop wandering around,” Chen Lu said when he saw Xu Lian doing nothing. He was annoyed and frustrated.

“Pay attention and learn,” he said, seemingly wanting to make up for his regret of not having a disciple by teaching Xu Lian. However, he forgot that Xu Lian was not his disciple, but rather Qin Liu’s… or at least not really.

Xu Lian had nothing better to do, so he walked over curiously and asked, “How did you discover this tomb?”

Qin Liu replied, “As a tomb explorer, I like to wander around in the mountains. I came to this area by chance and observed the surrounding rivers and landscape. I thought the feng shui here was excellent, and it would be a waste if there wasn’t a tomb here. So I tried to explore this area and actually found a tomb.”

Xu Lian asked, “How did you know it was a cultivator’s tomb?”

Qin Liu explained, “After I discovered the tomb, I disguised myself and visited the nearby village. I learned that a few hundred years ago, a cultivator from the village went out to make a name for himself and never returned. He only came back when he was old and wanted to return to his hometown and be buried there. The age of the tomb is about the same as the time the cultivator returned. Besides, the best feng shui place in the village is right here. So I boldly guessed that the person buried in this tomb is probably that cultivator,”

Xu Lian was astonished, he had never realized that there were so many complexities involved in exploring a tomb.

After some searching, Chen Lu and Qin Liu found the tomb door with an inscription on it. After removing the dirt and mud, they could finally make out the words:

“If future generations discover my grave, please do not disturb my rest. I, Ruan Chengyi, express my gratitude and appreciation.

To the left of the tomb door, one zhang away, I have buried the cultivation method I practiced, the weapons I used, and some remaining cultivation resources. I offer them as a token of my gratitude.

If you insist on breaking into my tomb, you will be plagued by evil spirits and misfortune, and you will not be able to live in peace.

Ruan Chengyi, final words.”

The three of them were both surprised and delighted. They were happy about the first part of the inscription, but were surprised and intimidated by the second part.

They looked at each other, not knowing what to do. Qin Liu swallowed hard and said, “This is the first time I’ve come across such a situation in all my years of tomb exploration. The tomb owner placed the valuable items right next to the tomb door and explicitly warned us. A cultivator’s tomb is indeed extraordinary and awe-inspiring.”

Xu Lian asked, “Are you still going to excavate the tomb?”

Chen Lu looked at him and said, “Let’s first dig at the spot one zhang to the left of the tomb door and see if there really are any valuable items there. Then we can decide whether to excavate the tomb or not.”

So Chen Lu and Qin Liu carefully started digging at the designated spot. They dug slowly and cautiously, even though the inscription had mentioned that there were valuable items there. They were afraid that it might be a trap.

After digging to a depth of about waist height, they came upon what appeared to be a black box. Chen Lu and Qin Liu carefully removed the surrounding dirt and lifted the box out.

They did not dare to open it directly for fear of triggering a trap or releasing hidden weapons.

Xu Lian found a long, dry branch and used it to carefully open the black box from a distance. Nothing unusual happened, and the three of them walked over to examine the contents. Inside, they found a shiny short knife, a yellowed book, and some medicinal pills and spirit stones.

“We’ve struck it rich!” Qin Liu exclaimed, unable to contain his excitement.

Chen Lu was also grinning from ear to ear. “These are a cultivator’s belongings, and no amount of money can buy them.”

However, Xu Lian was a bit disappointed. The cultivators had left behind so few treasures, which suggested that their strength was not particularly impressive, probably on par with his own.

However, it made sense. A cultivator from a village who set out to make a name for himself without any support would have had to rely solely on his own abilities. For a lone cultivator, a strength level of around the Bright Strength period was already quite impressive.

Chen Lu put on a pair of gloves and picked up the short knife, admiring it fondly. Qin Liu also put on gloves and handed a pair to Xu Lian, who then picked up the medicinal pills and spirit stones, examining them carefully.

Meanwhile, Xu Lian took the book and began to flip through it. As he did so, he received a notification.

He was excited because it meant that the book was a real, valuable treasure. He turned the pages carefully, making sure not to miss a single one, to absorb the knowledge.

Soon after, he had acquired a new skill.

【Name: Xu Lian】

【Rank: Bright Strength Level Third Stage】

【Skills: Breaking Wind Sword Technique (Vol. 1), Seven Styles of Primal Gang (complete edition)】

【Items: 1-star long sword】

Xu Lian evaluated the Seven Styles of Primal Gang and found it to be a powerful, fierce technique. In terms of might, it was slightly stronger than the Breaking Wind Sword Technique. The Seven Styles of Primal Gang was a complete edition, while the Breaking Wind Sword Technique was only the first volume.

The two techniques had different approaches. The Breaking Wind Sword Technique focused on precision and sharpness, while the Seven Styles of Primal Gang was more brutal and straightforward.

Just as they were enjoying their discovery, a voice called out.

“Put everything down, all of my good things, put them down.”

The three of them were startled, thinking that the tomb was haunted. However, when they looked in the direction of the voice, they saw a young man and five others emerge from the trees, each carrying a steel knife.

Chen Lu fixed his gaze on the young man. “Wang Liang, are you following us?”

Xu Lian was surprised, as he should have detected the followers with his keen senses. There were two possible explanations: either these ordinary people did not pose a threat to him and were therefore ignored by his senses, or they had some special tracking method that allowed them to follow from a distance beyond his perception.

Wang Liang smiled. “Yes, I’ve been following you. When Qin Liu came out of the dungeon and visited your house, you started to prepare tools for digging graves and warding off evil spirits. I guessed that you must have discovered a tomb.”

Wang Liang raised his steel knife and looked at it with a smile, saying, “Master, you’ve taught me a lot about tomb excavation, but today I’ll teach you a lesson. People in this line of work not only need to know how to find tombs and excavate them, but also need to use their brains. You should learn from me. I haven’t done anything, and I’m just waiting for you to dig up the good stuff. Then, I’ll just take it for myself. That’s the real skill.”

The five people with Wang Liang also started teasing and joking, using foul language.

“Brother Liang’s tomb excavation skills have surpassed Master’s, and his skills in ‘excavating’ Master’s wife are also far superior.”

They all burst out laughing.

Xu Lian and Qin Liu immediately understood that this young man was Chen Lu’s disciple.

Chen Lu’s face turned pale with rage, and he trembled with anger, tightly gripping the short knife in his hand. He shouted, “Wang Liang! You’ve gone the wrong path! Tomb excavation is just tomb excavation, and it’s every man for himself. But you’ve become a robber!”

Wang Liang smiled nonchalantly and said, “So what if I’m a robber? Tomb raiding isn’t a legitimate profession either. Can a tomb raider like you look down on a robber?”

Chen Lu opened his mouth with trembling lips, but he was left speechless.
