Chapter 58: 58: Stubborn chief
The group was just about to head out of the theatre when they were suddenly surrounded by a few officers from the Tokyo Police Force. At the centre of the gathering was the chief, his posture rigid and his expression stern.
He marched straight up to Aiden, his eyes narrowing with clear irritation. The whole group paused, unsure of what was coming.
"You!" the chief barked, pointing a finger at Aiden. "What the hell do you think you're doing? Going and fighting a villain without a hero license? That's a serious violation, kid!"
Aiden's expression remained calm, though his lips twitched with frustration. He'd already been through enough today, and now this. The chief wasn't about to let up.
"I saved the day," Aiden said flatly, his voice calm yet firm. "I did what I had to do to stop the threat. People were in danger, and I didn't hesitate."
"You're just a teenager!" the chief snapped. "You're not qualified to act like a licensed hero. You've put lives at risk. Not to mention the fact that your actions caused some major destruction in this theatre!"
Aiden raised a brow. "You really think I didn't know that? But if I hadn't stepped in, you would have had an even worse mess on your hands. There was a villain, and you think I should've just stood by and waited for 'official' heroes to do their job?"
The chief scowled, undeterred by Aiden's argument. He crossed his arms. "It's not about what you think is best. It's about the law. You can't just go around using your quirk without being properly licensed. Who knows how many others might be inspired to do the same after seeing you?"
Aiden let out a deep sigh, rubbing the back of his neck. "So, you're going to make this difficult, huh?"
Kaela and Seraphine exchanged glances. Both of them looked ready to explode. They weren't afraid to deal with this chief in a way Aiden wouldn't approve of.
"Let's just say what we're all thinking," Kaela said, her voice sweet but laced with a dangerous edge. "You're pushing it. You're way out of line, and if you keep this up…"
Before either of the two women could make a move, Aiden raised a hand. "Let it go," he said, his voice steady. "I'll handle this."
Seraphine gave the chief a cold look, her hand resting near the hilt of her sword, but she obeyed Aiden, stepping back with Kaela. The police chief looked like he didn't know whether to feel relieved or insulted by Aiden's calm demeanor.
"I'm not done with you yet," the chief grumbled. He crossed his arms again and, with a sneer, asked, "And where are you even from? What school are you enrolled in?"
Aiden paused for a moment. He had been expecting something like this. Instead of answering with a sarcastic quip, he calmly reached into his pocket and pulled out his student ID.
He handed it to the chief with a wry smile, his thumb casually brushing the top of the card as if it were nothing.
The chief looked at the ID, his eyes narrowing. "UA? A student from UA Academy? So you're really one of those kids, huh?"
Aiden nodded, his expression deadpan. "I'm not just some kid, chief. I'm a hero in training. And you'd better believe I'm going to keep doing what I need to, even if I'm not 'officially licensed.'"
The chief's face reddened as his frustration mounted. "Well, that's just great." He pulled out his phone, swiping quickly to dial a number. "I'll be talking to your principal about this, and I'm sure he's going to have a lot to say about it!"
Aiden already knew what was coming. With a knowing glance, he looked at Kaela and Seraphine, both of whom were smirking at the inevitable.
A few moments passed, and then the chief's face contorted with disbelief. "What? Wait… What do you mean, no?"
The chief went silent for a moment, his brow furrowed in confusion. "You… You're telling me not to do what?"
The rest of the group watched curiously as the chief listened to whatever was being said on the other end of the line. After another few seconds, he pulled the phone away from his ear and glared at Aiden.
"I don't know what kind of influence you have, but Principal Nezu just told me that if I so much as touch a hair on your head, I'll regret it."
Aiden's lips curled into a smirk. "Sounds about right."
"Damn it…" The chief slammed the phone shut, his face turning a shade of red darker than before. "I'm not even going to get into it with Nezu. Just… don't do something like this again! I'm keeping my eye on you."
Aiden only shrugged, his relaxed attitude never wavering. "I'll be careful next time. Maybe"
The chief turned away, muttering curses under his breath, while the rest of the police officers gave Aiden one last look before they followed their boss out of the building.
Kaela and Seraphine were both grinning ear-to-ear. "Now that was satisfying," Kaela said with a little chuckle. "I've never seen anyone give a grown man such a headache before."
Seraphine nodded in agreement. "Good thing we didn't have to do anything. You handled that like a pro."
"Just a little bit of charm and a whole lot of confidence," Aiden said, his grin wide as he turned back to the rest of the group. "Now, let's go home. We've had enough excitement for one day."
With that, the group made their way back to the car, climbing into their seats. Aiden started the engine, and with one last look at the theatre, he drove off.
As the city lights of Tokyo blurred past them, everyone let out a collective sigh of relief.
As they left Tokyo behind, Aiden turned the radio on low, and the soft hum of the car became the only sound for a while.

As Aiden's car slowly rolled through the familiar streets of Musutafu, he could feel the exhaustion from the day creeping in. His mind replayed every moment, from the thrill of the fight with Umbrael to the excitement of the shopping spree and the laughter they shared at the theatre.
Despite all the fun, though, there was one final stop to make before he could rest for the night.
The tall gates of Toru's manor soon appeared, and Aiden steered the car toward the driveway, parking neatly at the front entrance.
The manor loomed gracefully ahead, with its elegant architecture and lush gardens. Toru's parents were already standing at the door to greet him, smiling warmly.
"Thank you for bringing her home," Toru's father said as he walked up to the car, his voice deep but kind. "I trust she had a good time?"
Aiden smiled and gave a brief nod. "It was an unforgettable day. She deserves every moment of happiness." He turned to Toru, who was smiling shyly beside him. "Had a blast today, Toru. Hope you liked everything."
Toru nodded enthusiastically, her face glowing with joy. "I loved it, Aiden. Thank you so much! You really made this the best day ever." She then quickly gathered the heap of gifts, clothes, and souvenirs they had accumulated throughout the day, all stacked up by the front door.
Plushies, clothes, and trinkets of all shapes and sizes filled the pile.
Aiden chuckled at the sight. "I think you might need a bigger suitcase for all this," he said as he carefully placed each item in her arms.
"Maybe," Toru replied, her grin widening. She turned to her parents. "I'll make sure to thank you both properly when I'm home. This was really special."
Toru's mother stepped forward, pulling her daughter into a warm embrace. "It's been a while since I've seen her this happy. Thank you, Aiden. We appreciate everything you did for her."
Aiden nodded and smiled. "It's no problem. I'm happy to make her smile." He leaned forward, pressing a quick but tender kiss to Toru's cheek. "See you soon."
Toru, now flustered, returned the kiss on his cheek before giving him a shy but radiant smile. "Bye, Aiden. See you soon."
With that, Aiden made his way back to the car. He couldn't help but feel a pang of affection as he watched Toru wave him off, her hands full of the many treasures they'd collected.
As he drove back toward the villa, the car was eerily quiet. The usual banter and chatter had been replaced with the steady rhythm of Kaela and Celeste's gentle breathing. Both of them had passed out in the backseat, clearly exhausted from the day's events.
Aiden smiled fondly at the sight of his friends resting peacefully. His eyes flicked between the rearview mirror and the road ahead, but there was a sense of contentment within him. He was happy. For the first time in a long while, everything felt right.
When they finally arrived at the villa, Aiden carefully parked the car and turned off the engine. He looked back at the two slumbering women in the backseat. Seraphine, who had been sitting beside him, noticed immediately.
"I'll grab the bags. You deal with the sleepyheads," she said with a light smirk. Seraphine was always so practical, and she didn't hesitate to take charge when needed.
Aiden gave a grateful nod. "Thanks, Seraphine."
Using his quirk, Aiden gently levitated Kaela and Celeste, both of them still fast asleep, and guided them toward their rooms. The levitation made sure they remained perfectly comfortable, floating steadily through the hallway as if they were gliding. He carefully tucked them into their respective beds, placing a soft blanket over both of them, before quietly exiting their rooms.
"Goodnight, Seraphine," Aiden called out as he walked past her, carrying the bags they had purchased during the day.
Seraphine, now standing by the front door with a massive pile of bags and items, nodded in acknowledgment. "Goodnight, Aiden. See you in the morning." She was already organizing the items to distribute around the villa, her usual efficiency taking over.
Aiden made his way to his room, the quiet of the villa almost soothing after the hustle and bustle of the day. He took a deep breath, stepping into the sanctuary of his space. The only thing that remained now was getting some much-needed rest.
But as soon as he opened the door, he was greeted by a high-pitched, excited squeak.
"Nimbus!" Aiden exclaimed, laughing as the small chinchilla darted over to him, practically jumping into his arms. The tiny creature's fur was as soft as ever, and it nuzzled up against Aiden's chest, practically vibrating with excitement.
The little critter, having spent the entire day alone, was now ready to make up for lost time. Nimbus wiggled and bounced in Aiden's arms, making it clear he'd been bored without his owner. Aiden smiled and set him down on the bed, watching as the chinchilla darted around excitedly.
"You missed me, huh?" Aiden chuckled, watching Nimbus zoom back and forth. The chinchilla's energy was infectious, and Aiden couldn't help but laugh along as Nimbus did a little spin before jumping up to the edge of the bed.
Aiden plopped onto the bed, and Nimbus immediately curled up beside him, his usual content expression finally returning. Aiden reached out, giving the little creature a gentle scratch behind the ears. "You'll have to wait until tomorrow to play more. But hey, you had the whole place to yourself today."
Nimbus chattered in response, as if explaining all the things he'd gotten up to during the day. It was like a game of pretend with the little guy, and Aiden couldn't help but smile at his antics.
With a yawn, Aiden stretched out on the bed and closed his eyes. The events of the day were beginning to catch up with him. Everything had been so chaotic, so intense, but now, as he lay in the comfort of his own space, he could finally relax. He was surrounded by friends, and for the first time in a long while, he felt the weight of everything he was responsible for beginning to ease.
His quirk, his responsibilities, his goals… they all felt a little more manageable when he could take a moment to simply rest. He didn't have to worry about villains or missions, not at that moment.
Nimbus chirped softly beside him, as if sensing his thoughts. Aiden smiled, feeling a sense of peace wash over him. Today had been long, but it was a day he wouldn't forget anytime soon. There were still challenges ahead, of course, but for now, he could rest easy knowing he had people by his side.
"Goodnight, Nimbus," Aiden whispered, his voice barely audible.
The chinchilla settled in closer, curling up into a ball against Aiden's side, and within moments, the room was filled with the soft sound of the two of them drifting off to sleep.
And for a brief moment, everything felt right.
