MHA - Ghostly Rise: Don’t Escape

Chapter 8: 「Accepted at UA」

'For a hero exam, would fighting be the only indicator? No, you are a hero, you are supposed to be saving people.'

Izuku punched a robot while observing the short brown-haired girl who was constantly thrown up while being trapped.

He realized that this may be the trick of this entrance exam.

Looking around the corners, Izuku found that saving her was easy. His decision wasn't hard to make afterward.

Jogging toward the trapped pale girl, Izuku kicked and pushed many robots away. Once he arrived next to her, he extended his Ghostly Matter to wrap around the debris and crush it to pieces.

Removing the debris in the wrong way could cause the girl to get more injured. Izuku knew what he was doing as he carefully put the girl on his back after removing all the debris and turning them to dust.

"W-woah! Thank you!"

"Stay still, you're injured," Izuku calmed the girl down and looked at the robot that was wreaking havoc in the mock city.

It was a huge robot and very strong, however, it was worth zero points. It stomped toward Izuku with great strides.

Izuku's muscles tensed as he focused, directing the Ghostly Matter to form a fist identical to his arm. Then with a swift strike, the machine struggled and fell backward with a loud thud.

The girl stared at him, her cheeks flushed. "You're so strong… What is your name?"

Izuku glanced at her on his back but didn't respond. The bell rang, announcing the end of the exam. And Izuku put the girl down carefully in a safe place before leaving the mock city.

"See you later, maybe."

In one of UA's staff rooms, the pro heroes gathered around a large screen displaying the results of the entrance exam.

There was a name that stood brightly at the top: Hizashi Izuku.

"He's impressive," said Present Mic, leaning back in his chair. "That boy is hero material. He scored both combat points and rescue points. He's on damn fire."

Eraser Head frowned slightly while looking at Izuku's information.

"True. But his quirk… Why do we not have any information about it?"

"Because he never got any quirk evaluation," said Midnight, crossing her arms. "He's from the slums without any official education or training. As Mic said, he sounds like hero material. He even got the backstory."

Present Mic raised an eyebrow at Eraser Head. "You think there's something shady about the boy?"

Eraser Head didn't answer immediately, instead studying Izuku's movements through the screen.

"I'm not saying that, but there's something that tells me to be on guard. All of his papers are legit, and I can't accuse the boy just because of my feelings."

The door to the staff room slid open, and All Might stepped in. "Are we discussing young Izuku?"

"Hello, All Might." Midnight greeted him then nodded, "He was incredible in the exam. It's rare to see someone that dominates the entrance exam in both combat and rescue categories."

All Might smiled, his eyes gleaming with pride. "He must have trained incredibly hard to reach this level. A student with his potential will make a fine hero one day!"

At the same time, his mind raced to judge the possibilities of Izuku becoming his successor. At that time, he heard Present Mic agree with Midnight.

"Even with the lack of a formal upbringing, he's managed to achieve something extraordinary."

"Formal upbringings?" All Might inquired.

"Yes, we just confirmed that he came from the slums. He will be the public's beloved in the future for sure."

All Might couldn't help but raise his evaluation of Izuku again, he truly wanted to make him his successor now.

Several days later, the sun shone brightly over UA as Izuku made his way toward the school. He had requested to pick up his results in person to avoid the risk of some UA instructors coming to the slums and exposing how different it was now.

Izuku finished quickly and received his result within a sealed envelope. He thanked the staff member and left back to the slums.

In his house, Izuku opened the envelope and found a button. He took it out and was about to press it when two figures peeked through his window.

"Come in, Reaper, Toga." He gave a soft, almost amused sigh and called them in.

Reaper and a middle-school blond-haired girl jumped inside from the window. Reaper took the button and pressed it instead.

In front of them, All Might holographic figure appeared.

"Congratulations, Hizashi Izuku. You have been accepted into UA High School! I invite you in with open arms!"

Seeing All Might like this slightly disgusted Izuku, but he held it back. He smiled while affirming his plan was going on the right track, he successfully got into UA.

"Wooo~! You made it, Hizashi."

"Hehe~ Hizashi-kun did it, I never doubted it!"

Reaper cheered and Toga was giggling and grinning while hugging Izuku tightly. She poked his cheek softly and whispered, "Hey, isn't that something that I gotta celebrate for?"

"What kind of celebration do you want, Toga?"

Toga felt Izuku's hand on her head and her eyes glinted mischievously.

"Red one!"

Reaper groaned. "Really, Toga? Can't you be normal for once?"

Izuku laughed and shook his head. "What kind of normalcy do we even need here? Sure, you cando it. Don't take so much though."

"Yay! I love you two!"

Toga clapped her hands excitedly while jumping to grab her knives. Reaper turned to Izuku and smirked at him, "I know she's a great helper, but don't indulge her so much."

Izuku only shrugged in response.

He knew better than Reaper that he wasn't spoiling Toga, instead, he wasn't even treating her as good as she needed to be treated. She was younger than him and suffered in a weird way due to her quirk, why shouldn't he help the girl to enjoy some time?

After almost dying and receiving a new quirk, Izuku realized that he felt numb towards killing and had a new thirst for blood and revenge. However, he wasn't evil by nature.

He hated this hero society, but the people of the slums became a little dear to him.
