Chapter 6: Chapter 6 A Primary School Student
Miss Lu's face is very important.
Especially when it comes to money.
The most important.
…
There's a lot of truth in the saying, "Old tricks win hearts." When Lu Jingyan woke up the next day, took a shower, and just stepped out of the bathroom, she received a call from Chen Kai.
Through Chen Kai's caller ID, Lu Jingyan could almost see Sheng Xian's phone number enthusiastically and crazily waving at her.
She squeezed toothpaste onto her brush and pressed answer, holding herself back from speaking.
Chen Kai, "Xiaoyan, did you see my cousin last night?"
Lu Jingyan, while brushing her teeth, asked unclearly, "How did you know?"
Chen Kai, "My cousin called me first thing in the morning, asking who the ill-behaved girl who came the latest and smoked was."
Lu Jingyan was in the middle of gargling when she heard this, and nearly choked on her own spit.
The girl who came last and smoked.
Was this Sheng Xian's evaluation of her?
"Then I thought, it must be you, so I told him your name and asked if he was into you."
Lu Jingyan's ears pricked up, "What did he say?"
Chen Kai, "Huh? My cousin told me to see a doctor, a brain specialist."
"..." Lu Jingyan kept a blank face and silently for two seconds before putting her toothbrush back, "And then?"
Chen Kai, "Oh, then my cousin said you left something at the bar last night..."
Just as Lu Jingyan was about to say, "If your cousin tells you to give it to me, remember to refuse," Chen Kai on the other end of the line continued, "Looked quite expensive, so for safety's sake, he left your things at the nearby police station. He told you to pick them up from the lost and found with your ID."
Lu Jingyan, "..."
Lu Jingyan closed her eyes, thinking it didn't matter; she couldn't use this as an opportunity to meet him, but if she could express her thanks through this, it wouldn't be a wasted effort.
Who knew, Chen Kai on the phone then said, "My cousin also mentioned he doesn't like verbal thanks, nor does he like expressed gratitude, so you can forget about thanking him."
F*ck...
Lu Jingyan almost cursed out loud.
He was leaving no room for maneuver.
Blocking every path tightly.
Lu Jingyan gritted her teeth in secret and took a deep breath, "Did your cousin say anything else?"
"Uh, seems like that's it?" Chen Kai sounded unsure.
Lu Jingyan didn't want to beat around the bush with Chen Kai, "Hand over your cousin's phone number."
Chen Kai, "Oh, now that you mention it, I remember my cousin said not to just give out his number, especially to a bad girl like you."
"Shit." Lu Jingyan couldn't help but mutter lowly.
Chen Kai didn't hear clearly, "What?"
Lu Jingyan, "Are you afraid of your cousin, or afraid of me?"
The implication being, whether you give me your cousin's number or not.
Chen Kai was silent for three seconds, weighing his options, "I choose to be afraid of my cousin."
Lu Jingyan, "..."
Lu Jingyan, "You're right."
Lu Jingyan, "You should see a doctor."
Lu Jingyan, "Neurology and psychiatry."
…
All the good mood for the day, ruined by Chen Kai's phone call.
Lu Jingyan wasn't someone with a strong competitive spirit; perhaps born excellent, she seldom lost to others, and even if she did lose occasionally, it was no big deal. But this time, she took it to heart to an unusual degree, so much so that she couldn't settle down to work all morning.
During lunch break, she made a trip to the police station and on her way back, got stuck in traffic due to a car accident for half an hour.
After all the hassle, she lost over an hour, not to mention no time for a rest or even a coffee; Lu Jingyan was incredibly frustrated.
Having navigated the world of jerks for so many years without a single failure, if she couldn't even get a phone number today, she'd consider all her efforts a waste.
Whether it was for pride or just for the sake of face, she had to get her hands on that phone number.
Lu Jingyan stared at the computer screen, twirling a pen as he pondered for a while, then picked up his phone and released Chen Kai from the "little black room" where he had confined him that morning.
Chen Kai, "Yanyan, I can give you anything you want, even my life, but the one thing I can't do for you is give you my cousin's number."
Chen Kai, "At most, you'll tell me to go die. If I gave you my cousin's phone number, then I'd be truly dead."
Chen Kai, "Have some sympathy for me, Yanyan~"
Lu Jingyan ignored the various coquettish and cute emojis that Chen Kai sent and typed with his fingers, "You don't have to give me your cousin's phone number."
Chen Kai, "Yanyan, you really are a fairy."
Chen Kai, "Yanyan, I knew it, you care about me."
Chen Kai, "Yanyan, I'll treat you to dinner tonight, a big feast!"
Amid the continuous stream of messages popping up in the chat box, Lu Jingyan typed a line, "But you have to tell me your cousin's work address."
Chen Kai went silent.
Lu Jingyan didn't rush him.
After about half a minute, Lu Jingyan's phone screen lit up. Chen Kai had sent an address, "Yanyan, you mustn't say you got the address from me."
Chen Kai, "Also, Yanyan, could you please not mess with my cousin?"
Lu Jingyan, "Why?"
The message indicator on the top of the screen read "The other party is typing" for a long time but no message came.
Lu Jingyan didn't take it too seriously and went to study the address.
The Law Department...
"Damn, he's a professor."
"Professor Sheng."
Lu Jingyan raised his eyebrows and chuckled, copying the address and heading to the Starbucks official website.
...
Sheng Xian had a class in the afternoon, a large one, and it didn't end until four-thirty.
He returned to his office, set down the books in his hands, and noticed a Starbucks bag on the desk.
He casually asked the assistant next to him, "Did you buy this?"
The assistant looked bewildered, "Ah, wasn't it a takeout order you made?"
Sheng Xian frowned slightly, not saying a word.
A white order slip was attached to the Starbucks bag. He tore it off and lifted it to his eyes. It showed his address, an empty space where the name should be, and a strange phone number.
Did one of the school's teachers mistakenly fill in the wrong address for their order?
Sheng Xian picked up his phone and, using the phone number on the order, sent a message, "Hello, your coffee was sent to the wrong address."
... Could you send me your address so I can have it delivered to you?
He had not finished typing the message when his phone vibrated several times in his palm.
It was messages from that same unfamiliar phone number.
Four messages in total.
"The coffee wasn't sent to the wrong place."
"The coffee is indeed for you."
"Pretending to offer you coffee is a lie, the truth is I wanted to trick you into giving me your phone number."
"Brother."
Sheng Xian's texting paused.
Seeing that Sheng Xian wasn't speaking, the assistant asked, "Professor, that coffee..."
Before he could finish, Sheng Xian looked up, "The coffee is for me."
"Ah?" The assistant was somewhat surprised, "Who sent it?"
Sheng Xian didn't speak, his gaze returning to the screen and the word "Brother." After a short while, he softly uttered four words, "A little schoolgirl."
PS: Follow Sister Yan's cunning ways~~~ Sending coffee to trick someone into giving out their phone number is absolutely brilliant, isn't it?!
