Chapter 2: 02. My Little Sister.
Aaron felt like something clenched around his heart the moment Aurora uttered those words. He didn't know why, but Aaron felt very hurt the moment Aurora mentioned his father and he could only wonder why he would feel that way when he hadn't seen or spoken to the person Aurora referred to as his father.
In fact, it felt as though her words had hit him like a punch to his gut, but before he could process everything he had heard and his feelings about the words, Aurora continued.
"Baron Damien and his knights died three days ago trying to defend this town from a demonic beast tide. They fought bravely, but it wasn't enough. However, while your father and his knights fought to stop the beast tide, you, on the other hand, decided to…" She paused as a look of sadness suddenly filled her eyes.
To be honest, Aaron felt like it was more like a look of disappointment rather than sadness.
Aurora tried her best to remain calm and not let her emotions get the best of her, but the expression she had on her face was enough for him to understand that he might have done something to cause his father's death.
Although Aurora didn't say that he caused the death of his father, the look she had on her face already said a lot about what she thought of him.
Before now, she had been speaking to Aaron in a calm and relaxed voice, but Aaron had noticed a flicker of something in her eyes when she began speaking about him just now.
The emotion in her eyes had been brief, but he definitely saw it. And recalling what it was, it had looked like a disappointment to him.
'Or had it been anger?' Aaron wondered to himself, but Aurora's voice dragged his attention back to reality.
"Rest, Baron's son. You're in no condition to move right now," She said, then tried to leave the room, but Aaron's voice made her halt the moment her hand touched the door knob.
"Wait," Aaron said.
"My father… How did he…?"
Just before Aaron could finish asking his question, Aurora shook her head in response. She wasn't interested in speaking about it with him right now.
They weren't related, so it wouldn't be good for him to hear about his father from her, he needed to hear about it from someone who was more like a family to him.
This was what she thought to herself as she replied to him.
"I think you should ask that question to your sister, Luna. She's been waiting for you to wake up, so I'll let her know you're awake right now. Please wait here, and I hope you won't try to run away… again," Aurora muttered the latter part of her words, but Aaron heard it and wondered what she meant by that.
Aurora didn't say anything else. Instead, she turned around and left the room, leaving Aaron alone with more questions spiraling around his mind.
'Did she just say I have a sister?'
'Since when did I have a sister?'
He leaned back on the bed and tried to make sense of everything he had seen and heard so far, but while he tried to do this, a few images burst into his mind.
These images seemed like fractured memories, but they gave him a better understanding of who he currently was, and now he was certain that he wasn't on Earth anymore.
'What exactly happened to me?' He wondered because so far, with the flashes of images he had seen and what the female with pointy ears had said, it didn't look like he was on Earth participating in the global war as a soldier of his nation.
Instead, it seemed like Aaron was now the son of a Baron whose town must have experienced something called a beast tide.
Strangely enough, in this world, the Baron's son had a similar name to his and this was part of the little information he knew about himself right now.
The other things he knew about his new body were that he was seventeen years old and he had a little sister who adored him a lot.
Aside from all these, he knew nothing else about himself in this world.
'Did I hit my head or something?' Aaron wondered, but he still found it strange to have woken up in the body of a teenager.
Looking at his arms and legs, Aaron could see that his arms were no longer that of an adult, but they now looked like that of a seventeen-year-old boy.
He lifted his head and turned to his right, where he noticed his reflection in the mirror, and he could see his brown hair and blue eyes.
Aurora had mentioned that he was injured, but when Aaron looked at his body, he didn't notice any injuries on his body.
'Did she heal me?'
'Or did someone else?'
'But if she did, wouldn't that mean that this world had things like magic?' Aaron uttered in his mind, but he suddenly heard the door creaking open.
"Big brother? Is it true that you are awake?" A young girl with brown hair and hazel colored eyes peeked into the room, but when Aaron turned towards her direction, he saw her tear-filled eyes lock on him, and the moment her eyes met his, she cried out his name and instantly ran to him.
She hopped onto the bed and crawled to his side before throwing her arms around his neck and sobbing into his chest while tightening her arms around him, almost as though she didn't want to let go of him.
"You're awake! I'm so glad you're awake. I was so scared when I saw how injured you were," She muttered while crying.
Aaron froze for a moment, and he was confused by the sudden display of emotions and affection, but he instinctively stroked her back, hoping it would be enough to calm her down, but this only made her cry even more.
So, he patted her back even more, and seeing how she began to feel relaxed because of what he was doing, Aaron didn't even know when his lips stretched into a smile.
It felt strange to find out that he had a little sister because he had always been a single child in his previous life, but right now, Luna was the first person to make him feel less lonely in this new world he suddenly found himself in.
