Chapter 7: Chapter 7: No Sense of Martial Virtue
Someone saw the arrogant smile on Luo Sheng's face.
They suddenly remembered something from the forum and exclaimed, "I remember now, he's the bastard card enhancer who tricked the Goddess Wang out of her money!"
Immediately, everyone recalled, "That's him, no wonder this rookie has so many cards."
"This guy is so arrogant, not only does he have such beautiful girl cards, but he also dares to provoke our Goddess Wang."
"Although this Voldemort is despicable, that scoundrel enhancer is even worse. Let's defeat him!"
The audience, initially sympathetic toward Luo Sheng, quickly shifted to supporting Voldemort, Xia Xingri, in defeating the evil Luo Sheng.
Someone even shouted, "Wang Lolita, yyds!" (yyds is an internet slang that means "forever the best")
Luo Sheng was embarrassed. He'd only scammed the cute Wang, but they were holding a grudge against him. Furthermore, she had also scammed him by assigning him to Qin Jianjia's room, where he had suffered under the "Mother Tiger's" bullying—what an inhumane experience.
The girl who had her skirt lifted didn't understand. "But, he has the ability to repair other people's cards. Shouldn't he be compensated with some money?"
"He shouldn't have taken Wang Ke'ai's money and shamelessly threatened her!" a young card master retorted sternly.
Outside the arena, many young, rebellious card masters were shouting.
They were just kids who had recently celebrated their coming-of-age ceremony.
Luo Sheng sneered. He had been through a lot in life, and it was amusing to see these naive behaviors.
Moreover, Qin Jianjia was living with him—while they imagined her to be living an elegant life, Luo Sheng had to watch her scratch her feet every day.
Of course, Luo Sheng wouldn't say that aloud. Otherwise, he might never leave the campus.
Xia Xingri said, "It looks like your reputation isn't that great. If I defeat you, I'm sure my reputation will skyrocket."
"The villain dies due to talking too much."
Luo Sheng muttered in frustration.
He was already innocent, yet now he was being cyberbullied.
Xia Xingri was about to retort when Acoley, under Luo Sheng's guidance, created numerous small fireballs and began a new round of bombardment.
"Damn it! You don't follow the rules!" he shouted, immediately being overwhelmed by the fireballs. His mech began to heat up, glowing red and emitting a strong burnt smell.
Xia Xingri became frantic, losing his reason. His pupils bloodshot, he rushed towards Luo Sheng.
He wasn't willing to accept this. This was a card betting duel, and if he lost, he would lose his cards. He couldn't bear it, it was too painful.
In his madness, he charged recklessly and eventually stepped on the fireball bombs that Luo Sheng had set up with Acoley.
With a loud explosion, flames shot into the sky. The mech and Xia Xingri flew up, then started free-falling. Although the mech protected him, the impact caused him to lose consciousness.
He crashed to the ground and immediately lost his battle consciousness.
The black mist dissipated, and Luo Sheng caught the fallen [00-2 Humanoid Combat Mech] and smiled.
"According to the rules, I can choose any of your cards. So, this card is mine now."
It was common for card masters to settle their duels with cards as stakes. The Card Masters' Alliance even supported and encouraged such activities. A powerful card would only reach its full potential in the hands of a strong person.
Voldemort's carelessness led to a fresh wave of excitement among the new card masters, especially since this card, which was designed to target rookies, had been taken by the winner.
A considerable stir was created at Pingcheng No. 2 High School.
Luo Sheng, the protagonist of the event, had long disabled his phone and locked himself in his room upon returning home.
Today had been full of unexpected rewards, including the [00-2 Humanoid Combat Mech] he won from the card battle.
Currently, his cards included [Fire Maiden - Acoley], [Black Mist], and a white card [Incomplete Mechanical Maiden] and [Open Door].
These cards were enough to make any rookie card master envious. However, Luo Sheng was still not satisfied. If he hadn't strengthened Acoley last night, he would have been the one losing the card battle today.
Luo Sheng held the white card [Incomplete Mechanical Maiden] in his hand.
This was, so far, his weakest card.
With radiant light, a rough and desolate world appeared before his eyes. In the scene, a half-human, half-machine girl was lying in a pile of mechanical debris in a wasteland.
This card can be strengthened with the following options:
The incomplete mechanical girl was thrown down from the Sky City and fell into a coma. Her life is rapidly declining, and she urgently needs help. Perhaps Jack, a bio-mechanical doctor, can save her.If you have enough cards, maybe a miracle will happen.
Luo Sheng thought for a moment.
He decided to enter the world of the mechanical maiden.
The world before him flickered with light, and with a final flash, he arrived in a brownish-gray world.
Surrounding him were abandoned cement high-rises with exposed steel rebar, rusted and yellowed mechanical remains, and withering vegetation scattered in the wind.
In the distance, a floating cyberpunk-style city loomed, with an endless electronic garbage dump beneath it, the metallic scent filling the air.
"This is a wasteland world?"
Luo Sheng looked at the apocalyptic scene, his brow furrowed.
At the very least, he felt this place was uninhabitable for humans, exuding a sense of oppressive despair.
He then summoned Acoley and sensed the direction of the mechanical maiden, heading toward it.
…
In the junkyard.
A scavenger stumbled upon the mechanical maiden. "Here's a high-quality humanoid robot!"
She was still unconscious, her metal right leg exposed, with damaged mechanical joints, occasionally emitting blue sparks and leaking electricity.
Another scavenger saw her and said, "This isn't a high-quality humanoid robot, it's a cyborg... but her parts look pretty valuable."
He coveted the mechanical maiden's limbs, which, though worn, could be sold for a decent amount.
Especially since she was a cyborg—originally human, she had undergone body modifications with advanced prosthetics to gain rare abilities, such as strength, combat skills, speed, x-ray vision, and supercomputing. Of course, the modification costs weren't cheap, only military personnel or the wealthy could afford them.
The scavenger said, "We should sell her to Nasdaq, she'll fetch a higher price."
Nasdaq was a battle competition company that specialized in searching for or creating cyborgs to make them fight in exchange for large amounts of mechanical currency, the currency of this wasteland world.
The scavenger found a sack and prepared to carry the mechanical maiden away.
At that moment, a figure appeared from the other side of the junkyard. "Let her go, let me take her!"
The voice reached their ears.
The two scavengers turned to look and saw a handsome, well-defined, and delicate-skinned young man who looked like a rich heir from the city, seemingly unaware of the world's harsh realities.
The scavenger sneered, "Kid, you're asking for trouble. Spending too much time in the city, you've forgotten how dangerous the world outside is."
They immediately pulled out wrenches, shovels, and electric wires.
The other scavenger laughed, "This kid must be a rich heir from the city. We can ransom him for a lot of money."
These scavengers were poor, used to fighting, kidnapping, and extorting. Most of them had dirty hands, with many having committed serious crimes.
They were about to move when—
Suddenly, behind Luo Sheng appeared Acoley with her magic wand, surrounded by floating fireballs, like the blazing sun.
She glared at the two scavengers, seemingly threatening them for daring to offend Luo Sheng.
"Damn!"
The scavengers cursed, completely forgetting the mechanical maiden they had in their hands.
In a panic, they turned and ran in the opposite direction.
Unfortunately, they couldn't outrun the speed of the fireballs. After a sizzling cookout, both scavengers lost all combat ability, falling to their knees, begging for mercy, crying like children, practically worshipping Luo Sheng.
Of course, Luo Sheng never disappointed those who showed respect. Since these people were so respectful, he had to do something in line with his status—like making them give up all their money, treasures, and equipment. That wasn't too much, right?
In the end, he let them leave in tattered underwear, grateful for the experience.
Luo Sheng looked at the full bag of mechanical coins, maps, food, and other items.
"My card wife is really amazing." He praised Acoley.
Too bad she just tilted her head, full of question marks, unable to understand a word.
