My Perfect Apocalyptic Life

Chapter 14 - Attorney Zhang Wei, I Have a Legal Question

【You have received additional Task Rewards: Career Experience +2, Leaflets to distribute -50.】
【Daily task completed. Task Rewards: Career Experience +2, Yuan +5000, Points +2.】

The golden text that appeared before Meng Xu made him quite satisfied. It was worth it to go out early in the morning to distribute leaflets.

“There’s no way I’m the only survivor in this office building… Are they all hiding that well?”

After distributing leaflets, Meng Xu pondered the current situation while walking and quickly accessed the screen in front of him.

He soon clicked on the upgrade option for 【Leaflet Distributor · Level 1 (5/5) [Upgradeable]】.

Upgrading the Leaflet Distributor was quite swift.

【Upgrade successful, your occupation Leaflet Distributor has been upgraded from Level 1 to Level 2.】
【You have received +0.5 Agility, +0.5 Constitution, +0.5 Strength.】

The second upgrade didn’t come with much fluff, merely adding a few more attribute points.

Compared to last time, the notable difference was the shift from a +1 increase in Spirit to a +0.5 increase in Strength.

Meng Xu’s current attributes were now: ‘Spirit · 9, Constitution · 9.5, Strength · 12.5, Agility · 11’.

“Woohoo, I feel even stronger!”

Meng Xu took a deep breath, feeling an abundance of energy, akin to the sensation of leveling up in a game.

Though alone in this oppressive environment, Meng Xu felt his mental fortitude was holding up remarkably well.

After all, his spirit attribute was a solid 9 points!

Having finished distributing the leaflets, Meng Xu conscientiously clocked in for work.

This time, there was no task, yet Meng Xu still received the ‘Successful clock-in’ task reward.

Back in the office, Meng Xu quickly turned on his computer, organizing files, and occasionally playing Minesweeper.

Work hard!

As long as he worked diligently, he’d get promoted, get a raise, and his future would be bright!

Alright, just a little self-encouragement to keep working in this apocalypse.

After all, having to work at the end of the world is quite challenging to maintain.

Now, Meng Xu had only one thought in mind: to complete more tasks, improve his attribute points, and wait for the restoration of order.

Only with the restoration of order could he leverage this system to achieve greatness!

If the order never returns… then Meng Xu felt he’d have to take on the crucial role of restoring it himself!

To do so, the first step would be to improve his attribute points.

While he could currently handle killing one or two zombies alone, what if he were pursued by hundreds?

One must continuously improve themselves to become more outstanding, thereby enjoying a more perfect life.

Thinking of this, Meng Xu suddenly remembered something. He took out a leaflet with information about ‘Attorney Zhang Wei’s Law Firm.’

Taking out his phone, he pondered for a moment but decided not to call Attorney Zhang Wei.

After all, the law firm was on the 13th floor.

It would be better to visit in person.

His questions were not something that could be easily communicated over the phone and needed to be addressed face-to-face.

With that in mind, Meng Xu checked the time, saved his current work, and then went to the restroom to wash his face.

He changed out of his blood-stained old clothes and into the high-end suit he had won in the lottery.

It fits perfectly.

Meng Xu had initially thought it was a formal suit, but it turned out to be a sporty suit.

After changing, Meng Xu splashed some water on his face, raised his head, and looked at himself in the mirror.

Thick eyebrows, bright eyes, a high nose bridge, and a handsome, chiseled face.

More handsome than Daniel Wu, surpassing Eddie Peng.

“Even more handsome.”

Meng Xu nodded in satisfaction, then casually washed the bloodstains off the wrench.

The wrench was quite long, about thirty to forty centimeters, which Meng Xu had won from the cash lottery.

After testing it, he found it handier than the iron chair, thus making it one of his two current ‘divine weapons.’

“Let’s go!”

Feeling he had already shown the utmost respect to Attorney Zhang Wei, Meng Xu hoped the lawyer could meet his requirements and perhaps give his career a boost.

Meng Xu left his office and immediately heard agitated growls from nearby.

Annoyed, he furrowed his brows and turned his head towards the neighboring office, giving a cold snort:

“Shut up! Keep it up, and I’ll deal with you later! Being zombies is no excuse for lack of manners!”

Being a zombie doesn’t equate to having no manners!

Meng Xu was quite enraged by such behavior.

If it weren’t for the concern that there wouldn’t be enough zombies left in the building for him to distribute leaflets to, Meng Xu would have dealt with those two next door long ago.

Meng Xu realized that, once he overcame his fear, zombies were actually quite manageable.

Thus, he felt sunny and cheerful, almost wanting to sing “Sunshine, Rainbow, White Pony.”

“Humming the tune, Meng Xu untied Manager Zhang and Chi Wei. Taking advantage of the lunch break, he hurried upstairs to find Attorney Zhang Wei on the 13th floor to resolve some issues.

The stairwell was empty, with only Meng Xu’s footsteps and the footsteps of the two zombies wandering ahead.

“Ah!”

Suddenly, a piercing scream echoed from outside.

The sound was loud, almost like a world-shattering high note.

“Hmm?”

Hearing the scream, Meng Xu was momentarily stunned, then quickly moved to the stairwell window to look outside.

There, at the corner of the road, was a cautious five-person team. The scream had come from a girl situated in the middle of the group.

The girl was tackled to the ground by a zombie hiding behind an abandoned car. Despite her frantic struggles and screams, she couldn’t break free from the zombie’s grip.

The moment she was pinned down, the zombie began to tear into her, and her screams attracted even more zombies. Blood spurted from her severed carotid artery.

The boy behind her was paralyzed with fear.

As he panicked, a guy behind him, wearing a big gold chain and holding a baseball bat, mercilessly shoved him hard.

“Ah?! Wang Zhan, what are you doing?!”

The boy, already trembling with fear, lost his balance from the shove and was immediately seized by a zombie. In his final moments, he let out a shout of disbelief, but his voice was quickly cut off as his throat was bitten through.

“Pitiful.”

Witnessing this, Meng Xu could only utter a brief word of pity before looking away and casually heading upstairs.

Helping the world requires immense strength; otherwise, one must focus on self-preservation.

In an apocalyptic setting, it’s best not to trust teammates.

Those smiling companions might be less trustworthy than the ferocious zombies.

However, the repeated screams from the street had agitated zombies throughout the building.

Before long, Meng Xu heard growls coming from the stairwell.

This instantly put him on alert.

But he quickly assessed the situation.

Just one.

Upstairs.

Without hesitation, Meng Xu continued upwards.

The noise above grew louder.

Soon, on the twelfth floor, Meng Xu encountered a zombie in a tattered suit.

Covered in blood, its suit was severely torn.

Its neck had been gnawed to the point that the flesh was barely hanging on. Its gray-white eyes rolled around, and upon seeing Meng Xu, it let out a mad roar and lunged, driven by primal ferocity.

“Good morning.”

Meng Xu, calm and composed, swung his bloodstained wrench in the instant the zombie tried to rush past Manager Zhang and Chi Wei.

There was a ‘clang,’ and the zombie’s head burst open.

“Couldn’t you live peacefully? Now I’ve lost a potential leaflet recipient.”

Feeling regretful, Meng Xu stepped over the zombie’s corpse and reached the thirteenth floor.

The thirteenth floor was in chaos, its door wide open.

The zombie he had just encountered seemed to have come from here.

Tidying up his appearance, Meng Xu put on a friendly smile.

“Is Attorney Zhang Wei here? I have some legal questions and would like to discuss them.”

Sunshine, Rainbow, White Pony – a popular catchy and cheerful song by Chinese artist Wowkie Zhang
