Chapter 1 - The Eve of the Apocalypse
Chapter 1: The Eve of the Apocalypse
“The WHO spokesperson stated that the mutation rate of the T virus has slowed down and its spread is now limited to Southern Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. There is no need for the public to panic.”
“The Environmental Department has completed the second investigation into the abnormal forest conditions, and the specific results are yet to be analyzed…”
This summer is particularly restless, with recent news continuously playing on the giant TV screen outside the mall. However, the masked and hurried passersby show little reaction to it.
Heavy workloads, mortgages, and car loans have already made people exhausted and overwhelmed.
There’s really not much energy left to pay attention to these things. After all, no matter how bad the situation gets, it’s not the end of the world, right?
…
Z Country, Jiangjing City.
Jiangjing University, located in the third new district of Jiangjing, is one of the top universities in the country. Its faculty strength, research capabilities, and campus environment are all world-class.
Most of the students who manage to get into Jiangjing University are top scorers in the college entrance examination, considered the pride of heaven.
Of course, there are special cases…
For some, the college entrance exam is just a formality…
……
Jiangjing University campus, international dormitory area.
In a luxurious room, a young man leisurely sipped red wine while talking on the phone.
From the other end of the line comes a girl’s sobbing voice, “Qin Jun, why did you break up with me? Were you just playing with me? Can we meet one more time and talk it over, please!”
“Su Ya, we are just not suitable for each other. Don’t overthink it, that’s all.” The young man smiled slightly and hung up the phone with a random excuse.
Clearly, he has no lingering feelings or attachments towards the girl on the other end, or rather, his ex-girlfriend.
Slowly, he stood up and walked to a floor-to-ceiling mirror, gazing at his own handsome reflection with a hint of a smile on his lips.
“I’ve been in this world for twenty years now…”
His name is Qin Jun. In his previous life, he was a ruthless and heartless assassin from the Blue Planet. Unexpectedly, he woke up one day to find himself in this parallel world.
He was just an infant when he transmigrated. This life, he was born into a powerful and influential family, with an identity that was incredibly significant.
In this life, he is an indisputable top-tier aristocrat!
At this moment, the news on the television caught his attention:
“According to our sources, two people infected with the T virus have been found at Jiangjing International Airport and have been isolated at a medical observation point…”
The T virus…
Qin Jun frowned slightly. Although the authorities claim that the T virus is under control, based on the original host’s memory, he knows things are far from simple.
After all, coming from a prominent family, Qin Jun has access to far more information than ordinary people.
The T virus is almost out of control abroad.
In fact, Qin Jun has already booked a flight for the day after tomorrow, planning to leave the coastal city of Jiangjing and head to a safer inland area.
Just then, his phone rings. Seeing the caller ID, Qin Jun’s expression became more serious.
The call was from his father, Qin Yuan.
Though not widely known to the general public, Qin Yuan’s name is well-known in the upper echelons of power in the country.
A solemn and authoritative voice came from the other end of the line, low and imposing.
“Where are you now?”
“Dad, I’m at Jiangjing University campus.”
“Good. In two hours, a company will come to pick you up from Jiangjing University and escort you to the airport. A plane will be waiting for you.”
Qin Jun’s eyes narrow slightly as he asks softly, “Dad, what’s going on?”
Qin Yuan’s voice remains calm, “The T virus has mutated. Infected individuals will attack anyone.”
“There have been several riots in the capital, and cases of infection have been found in Jiangjing. The government has decided to lock down several districts in Jiangjing. No one is allowed in or out. We’ll discuss the specifics when you get back.”
A chill ran through Qin Jun’s heart. Is Jiangjing going to be locked down? He didn’t panic, though, knowing that the lockdown won’t affect him.
“I understand.”
“Stay safe. If necessary, let Xie Han kill a few people, it doesn’t matter. I’ll cover for you.”
Xie Han, also a sophomore at Jiangjing University, is Qin Jun’s classmate and constant companion, to the point where other students think she is his girlfriend.
In reality, Xie Han is a bodyguard arranged by Qin Yuan to protect Qin Jun. Highly skilled and even licensed to carry a gun, Xie Han has already taken several lives.
This demonstrates just how formidable the Qin family’s influence is….
