Chapter 22: CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO: RECOVERING BAD MEMORIES
Chapter Twenty- Two:Recovering Bad Memories
‡‡‡
I was in my office reading through some files that was sent to me. I was having a bad day that I didn't even know when I fell asleep.
I opened my eyes as fast as I could to the hearing of gunshots. Hearing the gunshots, I jumped off my seat with perspiration all over my face. Confusion laced on my face as I ran to the window. I could see bombs flying down from the sky destroying houses and that sent shivers down my spine.
What was going on? I kept asking myself. I could see people running from place to place.
My personal secretary burst into my office. Her face filled with fear and anxiety. Her face also filled with sweat. I shivered seeing the fear in her. It was the fear for her life.
"My priestess!!" She called almost falling down at the way she burst into the office.
"What's happening?" I asked not minding that she called me by 'my priestess' , I was hardly called that.
"We are being attacked by Agbejor warriors" she blurted out.
"What?" I asked unconsciously.
"Agbejor warriors crossed our borders and our warriors are holding them up at the borders. The whole Community is in total chaos as flying bombs are thrust out from the sky" she explained.
After hearing her explanation, I couldn't seem to get balance of myself anymore. Why would the Agbejor community wage war with us? It's not like we had killed someone from the community. It's not like we had crossed their borders unjustly. We didn't do anything wrong to them so why would they want to fight us. Except?
Except
Huck, that slimmy bastard. He's even cunning than a snake. I hate his guts and Everything about him. So he finally convinced the whole Community of Agbejor to wage war with us just to get the jewel. He sure has been overwhelmed by greed.
I'll make sure the jewel won't fall into his hands. I'll make sure he won't get it. If he thinks it's a game, then two can play it. Looking over the window as an idea flashed into my memory. A very risky idea.
"Bella, I want you to do something for me" I requested facing my secretary.
"Say anything and I will do it" she said.
"Take one of my cars and get to the township hall. Speak with the chief commander of the Umuguor warriors. Get him to have everyone out of the community" I told her.
"My priestess, what are you planning to do?" Bella asked.
"I want everyone to be at the Umuguor river bank. We would cross the river over to the Umuguor forest before the war gets to us. We need to keep the people safe" I explained.
"But my priestess, you are the only one that can step into the Umuguor forest. The people must not go in because of the dangers in it" Bella argued.
"I know, Bella. But I could make contact with the spirits of the Umuguor forest, maybe they would allow the people stay in their abode. And we need to do it fast because those holding them up at the borders might not have time" I said with a note of finality.
Bella nodded and blurted out of the office, going to carry my orders. I took my car keys and headed for the company parking lot. I took one of my cars and zoomed off, out of the company premises.
I drove in a high speed avoiding every flying bomb that was thrust from the sky. As I drove through the community, I could see people evacuating the community. I came to a July when I came across two warrior vans that were parked by the road. I came out to the car to meet the chief commander of the Umuguor warriors.
Looking around, people were all moving in one direction with the Umuguor warriors directing them. Good thing, at least Bella had carried out my orders as fast as she could. A tall man with a good muscular build walked up to me. I recognized him immediately.
"Greetings to you, my priestess" he greeted while bowing slightly.
"Hi, no need being formal. Anyways, how is the situation" I asked.
"We already got the king and his family to safety. I got your orders in time and as you can see we are already making sure everyone evacuates the community immediately" he explained.
"That's good. Hope your men are holding them up at the borders. If they need reinforcement, make sure they get one" I said.
"Yes my priestess" his hoarse voice came again.
"I will be moving over to get my family then I will meet you all at the river bank" was all I said before getting into my car.
I got into my car, started the engine and drove as fast as I could. I was sure to have an accident if I wasn't careful. I got to my home of abode to meet my whole family in the living room.
"Mom, what's happening?" My eldest daughter Manda cried out.
She was just a youth that had graduated from high college after studying medicine. She was already into a hospital and was doing well in her own area.
"We are being attacked and we got to leave" I replied.
"By who?" Nanda asked.
My second daughter, still in college and studying business administration.
"Don't be silly. What do you mean by saying 'by who's only one person can't wage war with the whole of Umuguor community" Frank's voice was heard from one corner of the living room.
Frank, my only son and last child. Still in Highschool and doing very well in art.
"I'm afraid she may be right" I voiced out.
"What do you mean mom" Manda snapped at me.
I let out a sigh.
"For the past two weeks, I have been receiving threats from Agbejor community. The threats state that I should submit the Jewel given to us by the snake god if I do not want a war. I thought they were just threats so I didn't put mind into it. But I knew who sponsored the threats and I'm sure it's Huck. He wants the Jewel.
Somehow, he had convinced the people of Agbejor community to wage war with us and that's the result" I stated with a sigh.
"And that's the more reason we need to get on the road. We need to get to safety as soon as possible" my husband blurted out making us all in the room to realize that he was actually with us.
My husband, Mark Kenji has been quiet for some unknown reason. I walked up to him since he was at a corner of the room. I leaned steadily on him and placed a kiss on his soft lips. He held my waist and gave me a sweet kiss on my lips. It was awesome. Wow! It was a long time since I had sex. I shouldn't be thinking of that.
I and my family got into two separate cars with my husband and my two daughters in one. I and my son in another one. We got into the road as fast as we could dodging every pothole made from the flying bomb. Looking around, the whole community was deserted. Wow! That only means the chief commander and his warriors did a great job.
But to every happy ending, there must be a tale of sorrow. Without even expecting something a like this to happen. A flying bomb that was thrust into the sky, flew from the sky and hit the car in which my husband was driving. The car exploded revealing nothing but fire. I stopped the car as tears streamed out of my eyes. I couldn't even process what happened on time. I only just stared at the already exploded car with mouth open. With mixture of feelings I didn't even consider what was happening around me.
"Mom" my son called out with tears in his eyes.
"They are gone mom" he said as he wailed uncontrollably.
With different mixture of feelings, rage took the headline. Filled with rage, my grip on the steering wheel felt so strong that the steering wheel caught fire.
"I'll kill them all" I muttered through gritted teeth.
"Mom, the fire" my son shouted, jolting me out of my misery.
I took a deep breath as I put off fire. Just as I had put of the fire, I could hear gunshots. The sound of gunshots came closer steadily.
"Go down son" I shouted as I held my son down.
The bullets went through our car shattering the car's glasses. Lucky for us we were able to get out of the car. I held my son and dragged him to the back of a tree as a hiding place, so that I could understand the situation.
Looking over,I could see that the Umuguor warriors were retreating. Maybe they couldn't hold them up and needed reinforcement. I called up to one Umuguor warrior who had a gun in hand and he quickly answered.
"My priestess, what are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be at the river bank?" He asked two questions at a time.
I ignored his question and asked mine.
"What's the status of the situation?" I asked.
"We can't fight them much longer. They seem to reinforce anytime we have the upper hand. It's like they wait for us to kill them all and there would be backup immediately" he explained as he shot one Agbejor warrior dead.
"Wait! Are you trying to tell me that once you have kicked their asses they just reinforce from nowhere?" I asked, not sure it's really a question.
"Yes my priestess and now we really need some backup" he said with a pleading voice.
I sighed as I just thought of what to do. The Agbejor warriors need me and I'm sure they would not hurt any other person except they have me in their hands. I know what I'm going to do.
I'll get the remaining warriors to retreat with my son in their hands while I surrender myself to the Agbejor warriors.
"My priestess, what are we going to do?" The warrior asked.
"Retreat".
