Chapter 23: Welcome to Reality 2
Naruto lay in the grass, his gaze lost in the sky. Ayame's words still echoed in his mind, like blows he couldn't dodge. He had lost, miserably. Not just the fight, but also a part of his confidence. His fists clenched as he thought about how easily she had overpowered him.
"I'm weak..." he murmured to himself, his voice barely audible in the stillness of the garden.
He was supposed to be the future Hokage—or at least, that was his dream. How could he claim to protect anyone if he couldn't even hold his own against one person? The flowers around him swayed gently in the breeze, their serenity a stark contrast to the storm raging in his mind.
As he was lost in thought, Akane appeared, her silhouette outlined in the fading light. She held a steaming cup of tea, which she placed beside him without a word. For a moment, she observed Naruto, her gaze filled with a tenderness she usually hid behind her sarcasm.
"Are you planning to spend the entire day wallowing in self-pity?" she finally asked, her tone calmer than usual.
Naruto flinched slightly, then turned his head toward her. "I'm just thinking, that's all..." he replied in a low voice.
"Ah, thinking... a rare activity for you, isn't it?" she teased with a sly smile, sitting down next to him.
Naruto groaned but didn't reply, returning his gaze to the sky.
Akane took a sip of her tea before breaking the silence. "So, what's bothering you so much?"
Naruto hesitated for a moment, then sighed. "I'm weak… I thought I was stronger than this, but Ayame wiped the floor with me without even using her full potential. How can I ever become Hokage if I can't even stand up to someone like her?"
Akane raised an eyebrow. "Ayame isn't 'just a girl.' She's been trained hard and has a discipline you clearly lack. But… it wasn't just your physical strength that failed you today, you know."
Naruto sat up slightly, intrigued. "What do you mean?"
"You're impatient, reckless, and most importantly… you don't really know yourself," she said, her piercing eyes locking onto his. "You've spent your whole life trying to prove something to others. But do you even know who you are?"
Naruto opened his mouth to respond, but no words came out. Akane smiled softly, as if she'd anticipated his silence.
"Tell me, Naruto," she continued. "What do you really know about yourself? About your origins? About your clan?"
Naruto's heart tightened at her words. He looked away, staring at an invisible point in the grass. "Not much," he admitted reluctantly.
Akane tilted her head slightly, her red hair cascading over her shoulder. "And why? Because no one ever told you the truth, or because you never sought it out?"
"Both," he answered after a pause. "No one ever talks about my parents, my clan… All I know is that I grew up alone. And now I find out I have a… demon inside me."
Naruto's tone turned bitter, and Akane noticed. She set her tea cup aside and sat more comfortably.
"You grew up in ignorance, that's true," she said softly. "But that's no excuse to stay ignorant. If you want to understand who you are, Naruto, you need to ask questions, dig, seek answers, even if they're hard to hear."
Naruto turned his gaze back to her, searching for guidance in her words. "And what if what I find out is worse than I already think?"
"Then you'll have to accept it and move forward anyway," Akane replied firmly. "It's not what you are that defines you, but what you choose to become."
Her words resonated deeply within Naruto. For a moment, he remained silent, pondering what she had said.
"You seem to know a lot about me," he finally said, his tone softer. "Why?"
Akane chuckled lightly, but her gaze grew more serious. "Let's just say I've known people like you. People who carried heavy burdens but also had immense potential. And you, Naruto Uzumaki, have that potential. But first, you need to understand yourself."
Naruto raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "And you… do you know things about my clan? About my parents?"
Akane held his gaze for a long moment, as if weighing her words. "I know some things. But it's not my place to reveal everything to you. That kind of truth, you have to discover for yourself."
Naruto felt frustration rising within him, but he suppressed it. He understood what she meant, even if it didn't make the situation any easier.
"So, where do I start?" he finally asked, his voice filled with determination.
Akane smiled. "Start by asking the right questions. To me, to Ayame, and most importantly, to yourself. And in the meantime… keep training. Not just to get stronger, but to understand why you want to be stronger."
Naruto nodded slowly, her words imprinting themselves in his mind. He knew she was right. He couldn't move forward without understanding who he truly was.
Akane stood up, picking up her tea cup. "You should get some rest," she said as she walked away. "The journey to finding yourself will be long, but it's worth it."
Naruto remained sitting in the grass, watching the sun slowly dip below the horizon. He still felt lost, but something within him had changed. A small spark of determination had been ignited—a flame he hoped would burn brighter as he uncovered the truth about himself.
