Naruto: Kurotsuchi Mayuri

Chapter 91: Chapter 71 : The Healing Tags!!

After the Jōnin meeting concluded, each Jōnin received their mission, prepared themselves, and left the village, heading toward the battlefield.

Although the Land of Fire hadn't yet been fully drawn into the chaos of war, localized conflicts and skirmishes continued unabated.

Medical Division.

Yakushi Nonō, affiliated with both the Medical Division and the Technology Development Department, looked up as Nara Kagetsu approached her and instinctively asked, "Medical ninjutsu scrolls?"

"Yes. Is it feasible to seal medical ninjutsu into scrolls and distribute them to all shinobi?" Kagetsu inquired once more.

As the leading expert in medical ninjutsu within the village, Nonō's opinion carried significant weight.

"How did you come up with this idea?" Nonō asked, grateful to Orochimaru, who had pulled her out of Root and funded most of her orphanage.

Of course, she was well aware of Orochimaru's true nature, so while she appreciated his help, she kept her distance.

However, she showed a degree of warmth toward Kagetsu, who frequently came to her with questions about medical ninjutsu, and she offered her guidance wholeheartedly.

"I was inspired after seeing some unique ninjutsu sealed into scrolls," Kagetsu explained, giving an example.

He wasn't lying. Ninja tools like these did indeed exist in the shinobi world. In the future, even the likes of Sasori would utilize them, and currently, the Nara clan possessed similar ninjutsu scrolls.

Kagetsu had even applied for one within his clan and studied it thoroughly.

The origins of these scrolls were somewhat obscure, but it was known that the technique of creating them had been around for a long time.

The reason they weren't widespread was that, unlike regular ninjutsu, they weren't as convenient to use and were difficult to produce.

"A scroll that can release ninjutsu? That's quite the useful item," Nonō remarked. Being proficient in medical ninjutsu and intelligence gathering, she was familiar with such tools.

With just a hint, she understood what Kagetsu was talking about and quickly grasped his intention behind creating a medical ninjutsu scroll.

But precisely because she knew some inside information, Nonō saw the challenges involved.

"A specialized scroll combined with the appropriate sealing technique and a skilled medical ninja—only by merging these three could you potentially create the kind of scroll you're talking about.

"But, Kagetsu, you must understand that producing such a scroll isn't as simple as just combining 1 + 1 + 1," Nonō said, looking at Kagetsu.

"The material of the scroll, the skill level of the medical ninja, and the rank of the medical ninjutsu being sealed—all these factors impact the success of the scroll's creation," Kagetsu nodded in agreement.

Scrolls capable of storing items and ninjutsu were precious tools for shinobi. Depending on the intended use, the scroll's material and crafting methods required subtle adjustments.

Additionally, ninjas skilled in sealing techniques and medical ninjutsu are rare talents in the entire ninja world. Such talents in a village usually follow only the orders of high-level authorities like the Hokage and advisors.

"So, it's pointless," said Yakushi Nono with a shake of her head. "The costs involved in making medical ninjutsu scrolls are too high.

In the village, each team of jōnin usually has a medical ninja assigned. As long as they can return to camp, they can typically receive treatment from a medical ninja in time.

Besides, Kagetsu, you're already very skilled in medical ninjutsu, so there's no need for you to use such scrolls," Yakushi Nono reasoned logically.

Being a person who was used to careful planning, she always preferred the most economical approach whenever possible, and her thinking aligned with this.

Medical scrolls?

It would be better to save that money and just let her handle things personally.

Kagetsu understood what Yakushi Nono was implying. The gist was that these scrolls are unnecessary for jōnin, and too impractical for lower-ranked ninjas.

For jōnin, it's unnecessary since they have access to the best medical care as long as they're alive.

For lower-ranked ninjas, it's impractical due to the high cost—it's not worth storing these scrolls in bulk like standard gear such as kunai or explosive tags.

Even a wealthy village like Konoha, known for its resources, can't afford the expense of stockpiling these items.

Outside the ninja villages, only certain ninja clans might have a few scrolls like these in their personal collections.

"So, does that mean the technology for making these scrolls is mature, but it's restricted by costs and mindset?" Kagetsu asked further.

"I'm not sure if the technology is fully developed, but if you're determined to make some medical scrolls, I don't think it would be too difficult," Yakushi Nono hesitated but then nodded.

Given the current level of the Technology Development Department, and Kagetsu's position there, if he were to push for it, achieving this wouldn't be hard.

But, as she pointed out, the main obstacle isn't technology—it's about cost.

"What if the cost was similar to an explosive tag?" Kagetsu continued.

"An explosive tag?" Yakushi Nono's expression shifted as she realized something, a look of sudden understanding flashing across her face.

From what she knew about Kagetsu, the fact that he was so persistent in asking questions, bringing the conversation to this point, meant he had already succeeded.

He wasn't asking for advice.

This was, in essence, an announcement.

Understanding this, Yakushi Nonō sighed softly, suppressing her urge to further advise Kagetsu.

"You've already completed the product, haven't you?" Yakushi Nonō's tone was full of certainty.

"Yes," Kagetsu nodded, not hiding anything as he pulled out a long, greenish-blue strip of paper from his pocket. The paper was covered with densely packed sealing symbols, all surrounding a central character for "healing."

Kagetsu handed the healing tag to Yakushi Nonō.

As soon as she received it, she only needed a quick glance to recognize it as a sealing technique similar to an explosive tag.

Following the same process as activating an explosive tag, she channeled chakra into the Healing Tag's symbols. Instantly, a layer of green, life-filled chakra activated, beginning to heal the skin and tissue that came into contact with the Healing Tag.

"This is the Mystical Palm Technique," Yakushi Nonō murmured in amazement as she felt the effects on her skin.

Medical ninjutsu is a category of jutsu that requires a high level of natural talent. Most standard medical techniques are challenging to learn, with an entry-level difficulty of at least B-rank.

The idea of incorporating a finely controlled medical jutsu like this, which demands such precision in chakra manipulation, into a simple Healing Tag was enough to make Yakushi Nonō appreciate the skill and knowledge involved.

What amazed her even more was that the Mystical Palm Technique, something that only highly skilled medical-nin could perform, could now be stably output through this Healing Tag.

It would continue until the chakra within the Healing Tag was exhausted, at which point the Healing Tag would disappear completely.

This essentially meant carrying a highly proficient medical-nin capable of performing the Mystical Palm Technique, ready to heal wounds at any moment.
