Chapter 13: Master of none
Renjiro had a plan for the two-month break. He wanted to ensure that Renjiro had a plan for the two-month break. He wanted to ensure that before his second year of the Academy started, he should be able to reduce the hand signs required for all his jutsus to only one hand sign.
This endeavour took him around two weeks to accomplish even with continuous training. With no classes, he was able to train from Dusk to dawn.
After accomplishing his goal, he planned to talk to Miwa about certain prospects he was interested in exploring. Currently, he was in Miwa's house.
"Aah Renjiro! It's been long since I last saw you. How is the Academy taking you?"
'He wasn't this tall the last time I saw him.' Miwa mused as he studied the young boy whose physical appearance had changed since she last saw him.
"It's been okay. I have just finished my first year and we are now on a two-month break."
"Of course, it was Okay for you I heard that you were at the top of your class. Good work Renjiro, keep it up."
"Thank you, Miwa-sama. It was all thanks to your help that I was able to perform well in my exams."
"You don't need to be humble Renjiro. Besides I have not been in the village for quite some time, so my help shouldn't have contributed much."
"It's Okay Miwa-sama, I actually came here because I need help with something"
"What do you need help with?" Miwa asked.
"Right before we closed for our break, our instructor mentioned some avenues that we could explore as shinobi and becoming a sensory nin caught my eye so you could help me with this?"
Miwa sat in silence as thoughts ran in her head.
'Hmm..., becoming a sensory ninja. Is he even fit for that? I have always thought that he would be suitable as an assault ninja because of his high chakra reserves. Not to forget, Renjiro has had issues with his chakra control so becoming a sensory nin, if possible, will be a tall order.
No, it would be counterproductive for me to discourage him at the start. I will just have to help him find his way and let him learn from his own mistakes.
But who should I ask to help him? Should I ask Sensei? He might be busy with the current skirmishes at the border. Well, it won't hurt to try.'
Miwa, concluding what she needed to do, asked,
"Are you sure about this?"
Renjiro quickly nodded. He wanted to be an all-rounded type of ninja, plus becoming a sensory ninja was an integral part of his plan. A master of none was better than a master of one.
In battle, sensory ninjas could discern hidden targets, and locate key opponents, giving their team, or even them as individuals, a strategic advantage.
"Okay then, meet me here tomorrow morning. We will go and see someone who can help you with this as I do not have much experience in this."
"Thank you Miwa-sama."
"Renjiro," right as he was leaving, Miwa held him back.
"Take a break. It's fine to train, but you have to have enough rest for your body to grow."
"I will do so Miwa-sama."
'I guess she really cares about me. This feels nice.'
Renjiro thought as he left and decided to have an off day today. After all, he had been training continuously for days. He decided to visit the town as his life in the clan compound had become monotonous lately.
In the evening, he had his usual training routine after which he retired to bed and waited for the next day.
The early morning sun painted the village with a warm, golden hue as Renjiro made his way to Miwa's residence after completing his customary workout.
He arrived at her doorstep at the precise time they had agreed upon. A brisk knock led to the door swinging open to reveal Miwa.
"Good morning, Renjiro," Miwa said, "Are you ready for today?"
Renjiro nodded with a glint of excitement in his eyes, "Absolutely, Miwa-sama."
With that, the two Uchiha set out together, navigating the familiar streets of Konoha. They made their way to the heart of the village, where the sensory corps was stationed.
As they approached the impressive building, the distinctive emblem of the sensory division came into view, signifying its role as the sentinel of the village's safety.
The Sensory Corps headquarters was a structure of both functionality and elegance. Tall, imposing, and surrounded by carefully maintained gardens, it exuded an air of seriousness and dedication.
Miwa confidently led the way through the corridors until they reached a door where they stopped. With a brief knock, they were granted entry.
Inside the office, they were met by a middle-aged man who seemed to be in his forties. His appearance exuded a sense of wisdom and authority that was likely earned through years of experience.
His salt-and-pepper hair was neatly combed, and he wore the traditional attire of a jonin Konoha shinobi with a black overall above his green flack jacket. He also had the Yamanaka crest on his shoulders. His eyes, a striking shade of pale lavender, held a depth of knowledge that spoke of his mastery as a shinobi.
'Should have known he was from the Yamanaka clan.' Renjiro thought.
"Miwa, welcome and this must be Renjiro." the man greeted them, his voice resonating with a calm and assured tone.
He motioned for them to take a seat. The man's gaze settled on Renjiro, and there was a subtle flicker of recognition in his eyes.
'So this is Renjiro, Eri spoke highly of him.'
Sato thought.
"Renjiro, this is Yamanake Sato. He was my genin Sensei. He might be old and grumpy now but do not let that fool you, he is one of the best Sensory Ninja in Konoha."
Sato's eyes twitched at Miwa's introduction. He was barely forty, how was that old? He was in his prime!
"Damn you miwa, I see you still have that sharp mouth of yours Miwa. This must be Uzumaki Renjiro, the new Talent from the Uchiha clan." Sato said while turning to face Renjiro.
'Yeah, he is grumpy all right.' Renjiro Thought before saying,
"Thank you, sir." Renjiro accepted the compliment.
"I hear you want to become a sensory ninja, let's first see if you have enough talent. If you don't then there is no point in wasting time." Sato said as his face quickly turned serious.
He first lectured Renjiro on what sensors do. Then, he instructed Renjiro to sit in a meditative pose and taught him how to sense his chakra field. It took nearly half an hour for Renjiro to sense his chakra field. The instructions were very informative.
Sato then tested Renjiro's chakra field a bit. After some testing, he concluded that Renjiro's chakra field had a radius of 10.8 metres.
'So much chakra for his age and large chakra field. He has a bright future.'
Sato commented, "10.8 metres, not bad. An average ninja has a chakra field of 4 to 5 metres. In the Yamanaka clan, we train our youngsters to become sensors if their chakra field exceeds 7 metres, while for other Konoha Shinobi, the minimum requirement is 5.9 metres. However, that is just the bare minimum.
Quite a few in the Yamanaka clan had their chakra field exceed 10 metres before they started training to become sensors. I had 11.6 metres. So while you can become a sensor, you'll have to work hard."
Renjiro quickly nodded. Sato said,
"Alright, I'll guide you. However, the process of training to become a sensor is quite complicated. We will need proper training facilities. I'll show you around and you will start visiting there daily at 10:30 am from tomorrow onwards."
He then accompanied Sato to the training facility. The location was underground in the facility they were in. The facility was mostly empty with very few people being there.
Sato said, "These rooms isolate everything outside it. It also has seals that can eliminate all sound and smell in the room. So you'll have to entirely depend on your ability to sense."
'That makes sense, I see. I guess most of Konoha's sensors are trained here. I assume that other students are using other rooms.'
Renjiro followed Sato inside a room.
"Now, this is where the real Training begins."
