Chapter 89: Chapter : 91
In the woods, a massacre was taking place. More than a dozen ninjas wearing Hidden Mist Village uniforms surrounded and attacked five people. Among the five being targeted were both men and women, including a little girl. Several corpses already lay on the ground, belonging to both Hidden Mist ninjas and individuals in different attire.
"Ice Release: Thousand Ice Bones!" Among the surrounded group, an old woman formed seals with her hands. Thousands of ice needles condensed from the moisture in the air and shot towards one side of the encirclement.
"Scatter!" Knowing the power of this jutsu, the Mist ninjas quickly dodged. One ninja, slower than the rest, was pierced by dozens of icy needles. Bloody holes covered his body, including one between his eyebrows. He fell dead on the spot.
As the old woman unleashed her jutsu, a Hidden Mist Jonin approached her silently and thrust a kunai at her. Seeing this, the others in her group tried to intervene but were blocked by their attackers.
The kunai plunged into the old woman, and she retaliated by kicking the Mist ninja back. Blood gushed from her wound as she staggered. Her gaze fell on the little girl behind her, filled with regret and sorrow.
"Grandmother…" The little girl, with fair skin and large eyes, clutched a kunai in trembling hands. Her youthful face was etched with fear and sadness.
Haruto, a middle-aged man from the Snow Clan, stood among the group. Injuries covered his body, and his blood-soaked clothes reflected his many battles. He protected the little girl as best as he could, but the overwhelming numbers of the Mist ninjas pushed him to his limit.
Nearby, hidden in the trees, Uchiha Fugaku observed the scene. His gaze was cold and emotionless as he assessed the battlefield. Compassion was a luxury he could not afford. His Sharingan absorbed every detail, memorizing the Snow Clan's Ice Release techniques for future use.
After a grueling fight, only Haruto and the little girl remained standing. Haruto, heavily wounded, struggled to stay upright. Despite his weakened state, he used every ounce of his strength to shield the little girl. A Mist ninja, wielding a water sword, charged at them. Haruto conjured an ice wall to block the attack, but the effort left him vulnerable. A barrage of water bullets struck him, sending him flying.
"Haruto-ojisan…" The little girl's voice cracked with grief as she saw her protector fall.
The Mist ninjas turned their attention to the little girl. One of them, grinning wickedly, approached with his bloodstained weapon.
"You Snow Clan members dared to defect. Death is your only fate," he declared coldly.
He lunged at the little girl, his blade aimed to kill. The girl, though terrified, raised her kunai to block the attack. The force of the clash sent her sprawling backward. The Mist ninja followed, raising his weapon again.
"Why… why did you hurt Grandmother and Haruto-ojisan?" she screamed, her voice filled with pain and confusion.
The ninja's cruel smirk widened. "Traitors deserve nothing but death."
As his blade descended, a surge of white mist erupted from the girl's body. Spikes of ice shot out from the ground, impaling the ninja before he could react. Blood splattered as he collapsed onto the icy protrusion, lifeless.
"She's awakened her bloodline limit..."
Fugaku's Sharingan flared with interest as he observed the scene. He had not expected the girl to unlock the Ice Release Kekkei Genkai in such a desperate moment.
Judging by the strength of her attack, she had great potential—perhaps even rivaling the boy named Haku, who had once served Momochi Zabuza.
The Mist ninjas were enraged by their comrade's death.
"Attack together!" one of them shouted.
They charged at the girl, murderous intent radiating from their every movement.
Whoosh!
Before they could reach her, a figure materialized between them and the girl.
"What—?!"
The Mist ninjas stopped in their tracks, staring at the intruder.
It was Uchiha Fugaku.
His expression was calm, but his eyes gleamed with a dangerous light.
Initially, Fugaku had planned to wait until all the Snow Clan members were dead before retrieving their bodies. However, seeing the girl's extraordinary potential, he changed his mind.
It would be a waste to let such talent perish here.
"Step back," Fugaku said coldly, his Sharingan spinning menacingly.
The Mist ninjas hesitated. Though they outnumbered him, something about his presence sent a shiver down their spines.
Fugaku's gaze shifted briefly to the trembling girl behind him.
"She will be a useful tool," he thought.
