Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Medical Ninjutsu and Talent
At night, in a remote, dilapidated house within the Hyuga Clan's territory, Kirito sat on his bed, quietly flipping through medical ninjutsu textbooks borrowed from Konoha Hospital. Perched on his head was Little Leopard, glowing softly like a makeshift desk lamp.
The quiet ambiance allowed Kirito to focus on the text, though a faint smirk played on his lips as he thought, No matter what world you're in, studying medicine always seems like a path fraught with exhaustion.
Kirito's musings turned to memories of his previous life, where medicine had been a grueling field, often joked about on the internet with lines like: "Persuading people to study medicine is like leading them to their doom."
His amusement faded as he realized he'd essentially fallen into a similar pit, now navigating the intricate concepts of medical ninjutsu. With a sigh, he turned another page and continued his study.
Medical ninjutsu, according to the textbooks, originated as a primitive method of injecting chakra into injuries to stimulate healing. Over time, through the necessity of war and innovation, it evolved into a complex system with advanced techniques and efficiency.
Kirito was intrigued to learn that Tsunade's greatest contribution wasn't inventing medical ninjutsu but popularizing it within ninja squads. This change fundamentally improved survival rates during missions, transforming medical ninjutsu into an essential skill for every team.
Reality rarely aligns with impressions, Kirito thought, reflecting on how the ninja world often differed from his preconceived notions. The infrastructure of Konoha, for instance, felt like a blend of modern and traditional—a place where you could find refrigerators and computers but also nostalgic, retro living styles.
Kirito recalled wanting to furnish his own house with modern conveniences, only to be stunned by their exorbitant prices. Appliances were as costly as luxury items, accessible primarily to wealthier ninjas who undertook high-level missions.
Just another reason to keep pushing myself, he thought, shaking his head at the memory of being priced out of basic comfort.
Closing the textbook, Kirito turned his attention to practicing chakra control. He focused on channeling Yang chakra into his palm, attempting the foundational technique. A faint green glow appeared on his hand, flickering steadily.
For Kirito, who excelled in chakra control due to his mastery of the Gentle Fist, the challenge wasn't precision but understanding the specific nuances of medical ninjutsu. After a few tries, he managed to stabilize the glowing chakra and felt confident in his ability to apply the technique.
This isn't the famed Mystical Palm Technique yet, Kirito reminded himself. The real test comes at the hospital.
A few days later, Kirito and TenTen accompanied Guy to Konoha Hospital for their medical ninjutsu assessment. They were guided to a practice room by a medical ninja, who explained the procedure.
"Your task is to heal this experimental fish. Its internal organs have been damaged using ninjutsu. The goal is to restore it before it succumbs to the injuries."
TenTen went first, placing her hands above the fish and channeling chakra into it. A green glow enveloped her palms, spreading across the fish's body.
Kirito observed from the side, noting her inefficient chakra control. She used an excessive amount of chakra, spreading it broadly rather than focusing on the injury. It's a waste of energy and less effective, he thought, watching as her chakra began to waver.
As TenTen reached her limit, the glow on her hands dissipated. The fish twitched briefly before going still, its life slipping away.
"You… may not be suited to medical ninjutsu," the medical ninja said hesitantly.
TenTen sighed in defeat. "I understand…"
Next, it was Kirito's turn. He stepped up to the table, placing a hand over the injured fish. With practiced ease, he channeled chakra directly to the damaged area, precisely controlling its flow. Within seconds, the fish stirred, leaping off the table and into a nearby tank, swimming vigorously.
The medical ninja watched in amazement. "You have remarkable talent. You're highly suited to medical ninjutsu. Welcome to the medical corps."
"Thank you," Kirito replied. "I'd like to train at night if possible, so I can balance my team duties."
"That can be arranged," the medical ninja said. "We'll have someone guide you during night shifts."
As they left the hospital, TenTen remained quiet, her gaze fixed on the ground. Kirito attempted to comfort her. "It's okay, TenTen. Tsunade's talents go beyond medical ninjutsu. You still have plenty of opportunities."
"Yeah…" she replied softly.
Before they could leave, the medical ninja handed them a bag containing the fish TenTen had failed to heal. "Here's a memento of your attempt."
TenTen accepted it with a forced smile, veins popping on her forehead. "Thank you…"
That afternoon, Team Three regrouped at the observation deck. While eating sashimi made from the ill-fated fish, TenTen vented her frustrations to Guy and Lee.
"They said I'm not suitable for medical ninjutsu…" she muttered.
Guy, chewing a large piece of sashimi, patted her on the shoulder. "Don't let it get you down! There are plenty of powerful female ninjas who aren't medical specialists."
"But I want to be like Tsunade-sama. Are there any other legendary skills she has?"
Guy paused, considering. "There's also her Summoning Jutsu. She's known as the Slug Princess for her ability to summon Katsuyu."
"Summoning Jutsu?" TenTen's interest was piqued.
"Yes, but it's a type of space-time ninjutsu. It requires specific talent," Guy explained.
"Can I try it?" she asked eagerly.
Guy retrieved a basic summoning scroll and handed it to her. After demonstrating the seals, he instructed TenTen to try.
Placing her hands on the scroll, she summoned… a single shuriken.
"Yes!" TenTen shouted triumphantly, thrilled at her success.
"That's amazing!" Lee cheered.
"It seems you have a talent for space-time ninjutsu," Guy said proudly. "Next, you'll need to sign a contract with a summoning creature."
To demonstrate, Guy performed his summoning jutsu, bringing forth a large red turtle.
"This is my summoning creature, Ninja Turtle."
"Amazing!" Lee and TenTen marveled at the talking turtle.
When TenTen asked if she could summon Katsuyu, the turtle scoffed. "You're lucky to have me, little girl."
TenTen grimaced at the turtle's attitude but decided not to argue.
After the demonstration, Guy encouraged her. "Summoning Jutsu is another step toward becoming stronger. Keep at it, and you'll achieve your dreams."
With renewed determination, TenTen clenched her fists. "I will. Thank you, Sensei."
As the team prepared to disband, Kirito watched TenTen's enthusiasm with a mix of amusement and skepticism. We'll see where this goes…
