"Damn it, what the fuck is going on?"
The entire ship suddenly jolted, causing Sato to slam into the railing in front of him.
Thankfully, he reacted quickly, using his arms to shield his head; otherwise, he would've ended up with a close encounter between his head and the hard metal railing, with a concussion being the least of his worries.
Though his head escaped serious impact, his chest took the brunt, feeling as though he'd been hit by a hard, blunt weapon, leaving him in a considerable amount of discomfort.
However, Sato had no time to dwell on the pain. As the ship regained stability, he quickly released Golbat and Bellossom, positioning himself in a relatively safe spot.
At this point, chaos reigned both on deck and inside the ship. Some passengers with weaker nerves were frantically screaming and running around, like headless chickens.
Fortunately, the ship's crew was well-prepared for handling such situations. They immediately made announcements over the PA system, reassuring passengers not to panic, while several sailors in uniform took to the deck and interior to maintain order.
Thus, the initial panic from the ship's sudden jolt was quickly calmed.
While the crew was busy pacifying the passengers, a fierce battle was unfolding on the left side of the ship, visible in the illuminated sea. A Gyarados in a fit of rage was locked in combat with a Tentacruel of considerable size.
A burly sailor, carried by a Pelipper and flying overhead, circled the battle, constantly issuing commands to Tentacruel below.
With each powerful orange beam or massive water jet from Gyarados's mouth, massive waves crashed onto the nearby waters, with the St. Louis as its main target.
However, each time Gyarados aimed its attacks at the St. Louis, Tentacruel—surrounded by a blue aura of water—would yank on the tentacles it had wrapped around Gyarados, causing it to miss its target.
Thanks to Tentacruel's efforts, most of Gyarados's attacks had missed the St. Louis, and any stray attacks were timely intercepted by other Tentacruel released by sailors on deck, preventing massive damage to the ship.
Surrounding the St. Louis were several regular-sized Tentacruel, all belonging to the ship's crew as protection Pokémon.
As the tentacles of the lead Tentacruel gradually tightened around Gyarados, it became increasingly difficult for Gyarados to turn its head toward the St. Louis and continue its assault.
However, a Gyarados was still a Gyarados. When they are enraged, they seem to have limitless energy, and despite Tentacruel's best attempts to fully restrain it, Gyarados eventually broke free with a close-range Hyper Beam, sending Tentacruel flying.
Luckily, the large Tentacruel was highly resilient and boasted exceptional defense.
The Hyper Beam didn't do too much damage, and thanks to the Aqua Ring surrounding it, Tentacruel quickly began to recover, soon rewrapping its tentacles around Gyarados.
Seizing an opportunity, Tentacruel delivered a Poison Jab to a spot where Gyarados's scales had been weakened by Acid, causing Gyarados to let out a pained roar.
This attack seemed to enrage Gyarados further, who turned its fury on Tentacruel, biting down on it with Ice Fang, partially freezing Tentacruel's water-based body.
Gyarados proceeded to ruthlessly bite off the frozen part of Tentacruel, then swatted it away with an Aqua Tail, breaking a large number of tentacles that were wrapped around it in the process.
However, Tentacruel's regenerative ability was equally formidable. The bitten-off section was merely a bit of membrane and water.
As long as its core wasn't damaged, both its membrane and tentacles regenerated instantly.
The two were now locked in a brutal, close-range fight.
For the moment, the battle appeared to be at a stalemate, with Tentacruel continuing to draw Gyarados's aggression, mostly defending to gradually lead it away from the ship.
"Gyarados… this must have been the cause of the earlier impact."
Watching the fierce clash between Gyarados and Tentacruel from the railing, Sato held onto the rail and thought.
According to Sato's theory, the St. Louis must have unknowingly entered Gyarados's territory, and the occasional blasts from the ship's horn probably woke Gyarados, prompting its violent attack on the ship.
That Tentacruel holding Gyarados back obviously belonged to the sailor with the Pelipper. He was directing his Pokémon to lure Gyarados away from the St. Louis to prevent it from going berserk and mindlessly attacking the ship.
A faint blue glow appeared in Sato's eyes as he used his system's scanning ability, instantly displaying information about Gyarados and Tentacruel in front of him.

"Impressive! These Pokémon are at such high levels—this is a high-level Pokémon battle! I need to record this."
As Sato examined the data of the two Pokémon battling intensely on the water, excitement flashed across his face.
The data made it clear that this Gyarados, at level 45, was definitely a local powerhouse in this part of the ocean, and the Tentacruel trained by the ship's chief sailor was also incredibly strong, evenly matched against this wild Gyarados.
"Sir, please return to the cabin quickly. It's dangerous on the deck right now. Let the chief sailor and the crew handle this; they'll surely drive away all the Gyarados that approach."
Just as Sato was about to take out his laptop to record the intense battle using the infrared camera, the tall, thin sailor who had previously greeted him approached with a worried expression.
"What? All the Gyarados? Are you saying there's more than one? Tell me, what exactly is happening here?"
Sato froze, his face paling as he turned to the tall sailor, grabbing his collar tightly. Golbat on his shoulder and Bellossom beside him glared menacingly at the sailor.
"I...I don't know exactly. Maybe there's an issue with the route. Don't you know how aggressive Gyarados can be? In the sea, they'll often call for backup."
Seeing Golbat and Bellossom's intense expressions, the tall sailor hesitated for a moment before spilling what he knew.
Just as he finished speaking, there was a loud splash—a Gyarados suddenly surfaced on Sato's front left.
In the next second, as the sailor paled in fright, an orange energy beam shot out from the mouth of the massive creature before Sato.
