Pokémon: The truth behind the power

Chapter 27: Chapter 25: James vs Daisy

The tension in Arena 3B grew even more when Daisy Waterflower, with a flirtatious smile on her face, released her second Pokémon. The Poké Ball opened, and a Cloyster appeared, its shiny shell reflecting the light of the arena. James felt his heart racing; he knew this battle would not be easy.

"Cloyster, I choose you!" Daisy announced confidently as her Pokémon positioned itself firmly.

James recalled that Cloyster was a formidable Pokémon, with good defenses and, being an Ice type, could hit Pidgeot with STAB attacks.

The referee raised his hand.

"Begin!"

Daisy smiled as she looked at James.

"I hope you're ready for this. Cloyster is a defense expert," she said playfully while twirling around.

James ignored the comment and focused on the battle.

"Pidgeot, use Aerial Ace!"

Pidgeot launched toward Cloyster like an arrow, its wings shining under the sunlight. Daisy wasted no time.

"Cloyster, use Protect!"

A shiny shield appeared around Cloyster just in time to block Pidgeot's attack. The impact resonated in the empty air as James frowned; he knew he needed to change his strategy.

"Cloyster, use Spikes!" Daisy commanded.

Cloyster launched sharp spikes onto the ground, creating a dangerous field around the arena. James felt the pressure mounting; he couldn't let Pidgeot get trapped in that trap.

"Pidgeot, use Heat Wave!" James shouted.

Pidgeot's wings began to glow as it unleashed a wave of heat toward Cloyster. The attack hit Cloyster's water/ice shell, but it resisted thanks to its solid defense. Daisy smiled confidently.

"Now is the time! Hydro Pump!"

Cloyster opened its shell and shot a powerful jet of water at Pidgeot. James felt adrenaline coursing through his veins.

"Pidgeot, use Protect!"

The shield appeared around Pidgeot just in time to block the attack. Water droplets splashed everywhere as James took a deep breath, aware that he needed a solid plan.

Daisy didn't give up.

"Cloyster, use Icicle Spear!"

Cloyster launched multiple icy spikes toward Pidgeot. The icicles flew through the air like sharp arrows. James shouted:

"Dodge and use Aerial Ace!"

Pidgeot executed an elegant twist in the air, dodging the attacks while launching toward Cloyster again. The impact was strong; however, Cloyster held firm and countered.

"Ice Beam!" Daisy commanded determinedly.

A frozen beam shot toward Pidgeot. James felt time slow down as he watched his Pokémon attempt to dodge.

"Use Steel Wing!"

Pidgeot extended its metallic wings and collided with the Ice Beam in a brilliant display of energy. The collision created an explosion of ice and steam that filled the arena.

Both Pokémon were exhausted but determined to keep fighting. The tension was palpable as the trainers exchanged challenging glances. Daisy smiled flirtatiously again.

"Don't worry, James. This is just beginning," she said while adjusting her bun and winking at him.

James kept his gaze fixed on the battle.

"Pidgeot, use Hurricane!"

Gusts of wind began swirling around Pidgeot as it unleashed a powerful hurricane toward Cloyster. The force of the wind swept everything in its path and pushed Cloyster back.

Daisy shouted:

"Cloyster, use Iron Defense!"

Cloyster closed its shell and braced for impact. The hurricane hit it hard, but it managed to withstand thanks to its enhanced defense.

Both trainers knew they were nearing the end. James felt the tension rise; he had to give it his all.

"Pidgeot, use Aerial Ace again!" he shouted fervently.

Pidgeot charged toward Cloyster once more with determination. But Daisy wasn't going to back down easily.

"Cloyster, Hydro Pump!"

The two attacks met in the center of the field; the jet of water collided with Pidgeot just as it was about to strike with Aerial Ace. The explosion was monumental; both Pokémon were thrown into the air before crashing heavily to the ground.

The referee watched closely as both Pokémon lay unconscious in the arena. He finally raised his hand:

"Both Pokémon cannot continue! This round ends in a tie!"

The crowd erupted in cheers and applause at the thrilling contest they had just witnessed. Daisy smiled, though slightly disappointed.

"It wasn't bad... but I still have more surprises for you," she said while returning Cloyster to its Poké Ball.

James took a deep breath; he had gained respect for Daisy during this intense battle and knew there was still much ahead in this exciting Indigo Conference. With renewed determination and echoes of combat ringing in his ears, Daisy proved to be much stronger than he initially thought.

The referee called both competitors' attention with a firm voice:

"Competitors, release your next Pokémon!"

James and Daisy prepared to throw their Poké Balls. The audience was on the edge of their seats, eager to see how this exciting battle would continue.

In the stands, Daisy's sisters, Lily and Violet, sat watching attentively while their little sister Misty, only five years old, jumped up excitedly.

Misty had short orange hair with two pigtails falling on either side of her face. Her blue eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as she shouted:

"Go, Daisy! Don't give up!"

Lily, with her long pink hair, and Violet, wearing a purple headband on her head, exchanged amused glances while watching their little sister jump around excitedly.

"Misty, calm down!" Lily said laughing— "We don't want you to fall."

However, Misty was so excited that she couldn't contain herself. Their father, David Waterflower—a light-skinned man with notable orange hair and deep blue eyes—sat next to them. Known as one of the strongest gym leaders in all of Alliance history, he had reached a status similar to that of the Elite 4.

Just when it seemed like Misty might jump from the stands to join in on the action, David scooped her up and placed her on his lap.

"Do you think your sister will win?" he asked with a smile.

Misty looked at him with serious childlike determination:

"Yes! Daisy is the best!"

David smiled and replied:

"You'll have to see for yourself to know for sure. I've faced James in a gym challenge; he's a very skilled trainer following the path to become a Generalist. But I never expected Giovanni would choose him to represent Viridian Gym; it's kind of funny that in two matches he hasn't used a ground-type Pokémon."

Misty nodded seriously upon hearing that:

"But if Daisy loses... when I grow up I'll become the greatest water-type specialist in the world and defeat James," she declared firmly.

David's laughter echoed along with Lily's and Violet's laughter which made Misty frown and start arguing with them:

"That's not funny!" Misty protested.

David gently intervened:

"I believe in you, Misty. There's always room to grow and learn."

The little girl calmed down somewhat upon hearing those encouraging words as focus returned to the battle in the arena.

Daisy smiled as she threw her Poké Ball into the air:

"Blastoise, I choose you!"

The powerful Blastoise appeared on stage with a loud roar, its cannons ready for action. James felt adrenaline surge through him; he knew this would be a formidable challenge.

"Let's go, Exeggutor!" James shouted as he released his Pokémon.

Exeggutor appeared on stage with its characteristic calm yet determined expression. However, upon landing on the spikes left by Cloyster earlier, it sustained minor injuries.

The referee raised his hand again:

"Begin!"

Daisy wasted no time:

"Blastoise, use Hydro Pump!"

A powerful jet of water shot toward Exeggutor. James felt time slow down as he yelled:

"Exeggutor, use Sunny Day!"

The sun shone brightly over the field as Exeggutor invoked daylight energy. The Hydro Pump hit Exeggutor but didn't knock it down completely; thanks to solar power boost it resisted the attack.

"Now use Solar Beam!" James ordered.

Exeggutor began gathering solar energy before unleashing a devastating beam toward Blastoise. Daisy didn't fall behind:

"Blastoise, use Ice Beam!"

The two attacks met in mid-field; solar ray and ice beam collided in a brilliant explosion that lit up the arena. Both Pokémon were pushed back by force of impact.

Daisy smiled confidently:

"Blastoise, use Skull Smash!"

Blastoise charged at Exeggutor with brute strength. James knew he had to act fast:

"Exeggutor, use Reflect!"

A shining shield appeared around Exeggutor just as Blastoise impacted against it. Although the attack was strong, damage was mitigated thanks to defensive shield.

James felt tension rising; he needed a solid plan:

"Now use Sludge Bomb!"

Exeggutor launched a poisonous sphere at Blastoise. Daisy shouted:

"Blastoise, use Protect!"

The shield appeared around Blastoise just in time to block attack again; energy vibrated through sand while both trainers exchanged strategies.

Both Pokémon were exhausted but determined to keep fighting; tension was palpable as trainers exchanged challenging glances.

James yelled:

"Exeggutor! Use Psychic!"

Psychic waves impacted against Blastoise who stumbled back unsteadily; however Daisy wasn't going down easily:

"Blastoise! Hydro Pump again!"

With renewed determination Blastoise fired another powerful jet of water at Exeggutor; James knew he had to act fast:

"Use Solar Beam again!"

The sun shone brightly once more while Exeggutor absorbed solar energy; however spikes continued affecting its movement—still managed unleash powerful Solar Beam towards Blastoise.

Both attacks collided in monumental explosion; field trembled under force of clash while energy shone brightly before dispersing into cloud dust.

As dust slowly dissipated Blastoise fell unconscious onto ground; referee raised hand again:

"Blastoise cannot continue! The battle is a victory for James Morgan!"

The audience erupted into cheers and applause at thrilling contest they had just witnessed; Daisy smiled though disappointed for not winning.

"You're better," she said while returning Blastoise back into Poké Ball.

James took deep breath; he gained respect for Daisy during this intense battle knowing there was still much ahead exciting Indigo Conference.

Daisy approached James after battle:

"Congratulations on your victory," she said genuinely smiling.

James shyly returned smile:

"You're stronger than I expected," he replied sincerely.

Daisy tilted her head confusedly:

"Why do you say that? As daughter gym leader it's normal having some strength…"

James avoided question quickly saying:

"It was good fight," offering handshake instead.

Daisy decided not asking more questions shook hand firmly yet while doing so threw flirty glance making James nervous.

"You should consider being my personal trainer…" she suggested playfully.

James felt cheeks flush searching escape route when suddenly Waterflower family appeared—Misty ran towards Daisy tears streaming hugging her tightly.

"Don't cry Daisy! I'm here!" Misty cried between sobs laughter filling Daisy's clothes snot tears alike.

Daisy frowned playfully scolding:

"Misty! Don't you see I'm trying get you brother-in-law?"

Lily glanced where James stood joking:

"It seems 'brother-in-law' has just escaped…"

Daisy quickly turned seeing James disappearing among crowd confused amused expression scratching head unsure what think while he vanished among spectators.
