Chapter 6 - Conversation!
Rainbow Middle School.
“Goodbye, WuYue~”
“Mm! Goodbye!”
After waving and smiling to her classmates, WuYue walked out of the school gate and headed home.
As she walked, she reached a tree and stopped beneath it. Placing a hand on her chest, she felt her heart pounding rapidly and took a deep breath.
“Whew… today is really strange.”
WuYue couldn’t pinpoint why. Even though she had finally arrived at school on time today, she felt that she should be more focused on her studies, not less!
Yet, for some reason, today, she had been in a constant state of distraction, unable to focus on anything…
It even led to her being called out by the teacher during class and standing for ten minutes as a punishment…
Although these were minor issues, they were enough to leave her feeling gloomy.
“I’m never like this before…”
“What’s wrong with me…”
“…”
Thinking back on what had happened since this morning, WuYue remained silent for a moment, then sighed.
Alright… She wasn’t a slow-witted person; she had read enough shojo manga to recognise the pattern.
The reason she had been so distracted after arriving at school this morning… was probably due to him. After all, many manga feature a scenario where the male lead does something for the female lead, causing her to experience a flutter of emotions.
She must be going through something like that!
“Sigh! I need to get my mindset straightened out quickly.”
With a bitter face, WuYue shook her head and decided not to linger any longer. She continued to walk briskly towards home.
She was well aware… that right now, she and YouYu were merely acquaintances, and they didn’t really know each other well.
And now, the emotions troubling her were likely just the result of the suspension bridge effect.
If she let these feelings continue to develop… it wouldn’t only be her who would be troubled—YouYu might also be affected.
“Grandmother always said that a truly strong person is one who can maintain a firm heart!”
With this thought, WuYue began to murmur the words her grandmother used to say to her, trying to adjust her mindset.
She kept repeating those words… and surprisingly, her twisted emotions began to fade away gradually!
Well, although it might seem absurd that merely repeating a few phrases could change her mindset, given that she’s a magical girl (not yet), it’s reasonable!
Yes! Positive gab is a must-have skill for any protagonist!
“If I want to become stronger, I can’t rely on others alone!”
After rallying herself just as she used to do when facing setbacks, WuYue returned to her MAX emotional state!
“Ah ha ha! I knew this method would work!”
“OKOK! Full emotion boost!”
With a smile on her face, WuYue hopped on her bicycle and began to sprint.
Now, she needed to get home quickly! And then, make a meal for YouYu!
Although it did seem a bit comical to be sprinting for such a reason…
But he had helped her so much and only asked her for another meal; how could she not?!
Consider it a repayment for this morning!
Once this is settled, she won’t worry about being a saviour anymore.
They’d be just ordinary friends—nothing more, nothing less!
“Bang!”
“?”
“Hi hi~! I’m back!”
“…Oh, welcome back.”
Seeing WuYue burst through the door with excitement and a big smile, YouYu paused for a moment before laughing and saying:
“After just one morning apart, you’re now back to how you were yesterday? I thought you’d come back and apologise or something.”
“Ugh—! Don’t tease me about this! It was just a coincidence, a coincidence, got it?”
Hearing YouYu’s words and recalling her “self-deprecating” demeanour this morning, WuYue’s face flushed red as she retorted.
“Hmm~ A coincidence, huh? Well, I guess I’m pretty lucky since I’m the first to see you like that~ It’s quite memorable, don’t you think?”
“There’s nothing memorable about it! Stop talking about it! Or else you’ll be the one cooking lunch! You seem fine to me anyway!”
“Alright, alright~ My bad, okay?”
“…Hmph.”
Seeing YouYu make a gesture of apology, WuYue huffed and decided not to press further. Instead, she turned and headed towards the kitchen.
Meanwhile, after seeing WuYue enter the kitchen, inside YouYu’s mind, Mamba couldn’t hold back any longer. It asked:
“YouYu, why is your Converse so smooth? Isn’t this a bit strange…? You really manage to handle this magical girl so easily?”
“…Handle? Well, what do you mean by ‘handle’?”
“Okay, maybe I expressed it poorly. What I’m saying is what you just did seemed like ‘flirting,’ right? Why are you so adept at it?”
“No, no, no! Let me clarify—everything I’m doing now is for ‘raising,’ ‘raising!’ Got it? This is a necessary part of the ‘raising’ process, not flirting at all!”
YouYu, suddenly flustered, explained:
“Um… to put it simply, it’s like an older brother raising his younger sister, you know? There’s no ulterior motive or concerns involved, so such straightforward actions, which are similar to enhancing family bonds, naturally don’t count as anything problematic!”
“…Is that so?”
Though Mamba was somewhat puzzled about why YouYu was so particular about the wording on this matter, it wisely chose not to press further. Perhaps there was some reason why he couldn’t explain it that way.
Well… of course, he couldn’t. After all, these so-called “magical girls” are all minors! Take WuYue, for example—she’s just a child who is only two years younger than him…
Though YouYu isn’t much older himself… uh, he still doesn’t want to be seen as a pedo!
So why did he behave like that? Couldn’t he just play the role of a “big brother” properly?
The answer is that he couldn’t help it—honestly speaking.
“I use ‘raising’ as a self-deceptive excuse to ease my guilt… Ah, it seems I’ve really become a villain~”
“Hey! The food’s ready. Come quickly!”
“Coming, coming~”
Wiping the sweat from his forehead, YouYu approached the dining table.
“Here! The dishes are the same as yesterday’s… though I can’t guarantee they’ll be as delicious as before. After all, you ate them when you were injured and weak, so there might have been a psychological effect…”
“Haha! No, no, I trust your cooking skills.”
Smiling, YouYu picked up his chopsticks and bowl and began eating.
Although the dishes on the table were everyday home-cooked meals, they were the ones WuYue had cooked most often since childhood. Despite their ordinary appearance, they tasted better than average.
Anyone who has the chance to eat her cooking regularly in the future is truly blessed.
With this thought, YouYu took another big mouthful.
“But… just eating won’t do.”
He hadn’t forgotten what he needed to do.
Just as he finished the bowl and was about to speak up when—
“Um—!” x2
“?”
Their voices overlapped.
“…”
It seemed they both had something to say.
“…Well! That!”
WuYue spoke up first.
“YouYu, you go first.”
“…”
“Alright.”
