Saga of Astral Mysteries (LOTMxASOIAF)

Chapter 37: Shopping New Equipment

For example, the Tenebraenys House was one of the few that had contracts with the Red Dragons and were exclusively creating symbiotic relationships with the Red Dragons.

For the Valyrians, the bonds with their Dragons were sacred, and humans and dragons of the Freehold lived in harmony because the Dragons were also sentient and intelligent creatures; their sentience was developing much slower than that of the humans.

Valkorion knew that obtaining wild dragons would be hard because the wild dragons were the ones that were very old and very powerful, ones that could slap most Mid Sequence Beoynders into meat paste with one swing of their tails.

Still, for that, he needed to completely awaken his dormant Tenebraenys Lineages, which would then increase his affinity for Dragons, and only then, after he grew more powerful, would he try his luck and try to tame some younger Red Dragons in the wilds.

But for the time being, he was rather looking in a different direction, which was something only related to the Dragons and not the Dragon itself.

Because of his heritage, the best bet would be on obtaining the egg of a Drake or finding a juvenile Drake to tame it.

Drakes were draconic creatures, distant and lesser cousins to True Dragons. They were smaller and not as powerful as dragons but were much easier to train, so they were commonly used as mounts.

Within the Valyria, if the Dragonlords used the True Dragons, then the rest of the Valyrian Nobiltiy used the Drakes as their companions and familiars. Drakes were also far more common within the Freehold, and even in the Cartharys, there was a good number of drakes.

Due to the Tenebraenys Lineage that was inherently connected to the Red Dragons, Valkorion was looking in the way of Fire Drakes, one of the most widespread subspecies of Elemental Drakes because of the existence of the Fourteen Flames within the Valyrian Peninsula.

He was rather confident in taming Fire Drake after he advanced to the Sequence 6 Beast Knight, not to mention it would be very cool to be able to use Fire Drake as a mount and familiar to ride to battles.

Taming the Fire Drake would be much easier, and that was the goal that Valkorion was striving for right now. Not to mention, having a Fire Drake as his familiar would tremendously strengthen his combat capabilities to much higher levels because all Drakes were Extraordinary Creatures.

Even the weakest of them, who could barely match Sequence 7 Beyonder, would require around a hundred trained men to be put down safely due to their high destructive capabilities and even much higher resilience to withstand punishment.

The following days, Valkoprion spent them mostly through training as he felt the digestion rate of the Sequence 7 Warrior Potion, and he felt that it should be digested in a week or two, which rather prompted him to speed up his training.

Because it seemed that the Apostle of Red wouldn't be arriving any time soon, he wanted to digest the Sequence 7 Warrior Potion as soon as possible and advance to the Sequence 6 Beast Knight before departing for the Quest that 'He' issued him.

As Sequence 6 Beyonder, Valkorion would have much better confidence in surviving and completing it successfully. However, what was bothering him was the speed of his advancing, as it took him around a year or so to completely digest the Warrior Potion, and that was only Sequence 7.

He didn't really know if it was fast or slow...

'Maybe because there is a lesser number of Sequences, even the advancement is much harder... when I think about it, in the canon Lord of the Mysteries, there were Nine Sequences for each Pathway, while there are only Seven, not to mention the Pathways are vastly different from everything I read...'

Valkorion thought as he swung his sword at the training dummy in the backyard, because as for the past days, even today, he was training in his swordsmanship until he was all sweaty and tired.

It greatly helped him digest the potion and also improved his combat skills. He wanted to test his swordsmanship against true pinnacle swordsmen in his world in the future; the fame of the House Dayne was known throughout the entire Known World for its superior talent in swords.

After he finished his daily routine in the morning, he took a bath because he would be going to find a capable blacksmith to buy proper armor for himself that day.

He was willing to invest around two or three thousand Gold Dragon Coins in this endeavor, and that was a staggering sum for a piece of equipment. One needs to know that average armor from ordinary fine steel costs around a few tens of Gold Dragon Coins.

So, by investing a few thousand Gold Dragon Coins into this endeavor, one might be able to buy even something with a good amount of Valyrian Steel in it. At least some parts of the armor would be made from Valyrian Steel or other similar durable materials that would

Merchant District of the Cartharys

As Valkorion walked through the busy streets of the Merchant District of his fortress city, he couldn't help but mutter how many more people were there. It seemed that the overpopulation of the goblinoids was luring here people from all around the Freehold, though most of the newcomers were soldiers of the Legions and merchants.

Most of the newcomers were merchants, traders, craftsmen, blacksmiths, potion masters, healers, and people well-versed in other professions because nothing was more profitable than selling things to the state.

Governmental contracts were the best way to get filthy rich.

And they were also very fast.

Cartharys was a personal fief of the House Belaerys, one of the Triarchy of the Freehold, so their political and economic power was much higher than the rest of the Dragonlord Families.

Everyone wanted to make use of this opportunity.

Valkorion strolled through the few streets until he arrived at his targetted destination, which was the so-called "Forge Street". It was named such due to the high concentration of the Blacmskiths and Forge Masters in this place. Another fact attributed to such a name was the constant smoke rising from the forges of the street.

There were several tens of shops and places on Forge Street, and when the work was going full, then every single one was leaving behind a trail of smoke from the forges that were exiting through the chimney.

He walked through the stores, carefully looking for the ones that were selling the high-end goods, because he needed some high-end armros. Something that was of top quality and that could be used for a long time, even by Beyonders.

Unfortunately, even though there were a lot of Blacksmiths and Forge Masters, the number of the ones that were selling the things that met his requirements was very low, as not everyone could afford them.

Most of these people were not really bothering to open a shop, but they would rather create things through exclusive contracts with the government of the Freehold or the House Belaerys.

Still, there were a few very skilled Blacksmiths and Forge Masters that were present, but their shops were mostly empty as they charged ridiculous prices for everything. Not every adventurer had efficiency like Valkorion, and most of them were actually going in groups to increase their survivability.
